To get a notification when Charles Schwab stock reaches a level you choose, enter the ticker SCHW in the Schwab platform you use, select a price condition and threshold, then enable a delivery method. Schwab Mobile is the quickest route: Markets → search SCHW → open the quote → Set an Alert → Target price. Schwab.com also supports email and wireless-text securities alerts, while thinkorswim adds chart-based alerts and, on desktop, portfolio, calendar, news and rating-change conditions.
The alert only tells you that a condition was met. It does not submit an order, reserve cash or guarantee that you can buy or sell at the alert price. Before relying on one, check the symbol, price type, comparison direction, threshold and notification channel. If you use more than one Schwab service, create and verify the alert separately because the services maintain separate alert lists.

Which Schwab platform should you use?
All four Schwab experiences can monitor SCHW, but they are separate alert systems. Pick the workflow that matches where you normally check quotes and where you want the notification to arrive.

A price alert is not an order. It only tells you that a condition was met; you still decide whether to review the quote or place a trade. The fastest choice is generally Schwab Mobile. Schwab.com is the practical choice when an email or wireless text is more useful than a phone push. thinkorswim mobile fits users who already work from its charts, and thinkorswim desktop is the broadest option when you want non-price conditions or an alert-management view.

You can use more than one platform, but do not assume that one setup follows you everywhere. Schwab specifically says Schwab Mobile alerts are not synchronized with Schwab.com or thinkorswim. A mobile alert and a desktop alert are therefore two independent records that must be created, edited and checked separately.
What you need before creating an SCHW alert
- An active Schwab login for the platform you intend to use.
- The ticker symbol SCHW, which is the symbol to enter in Markets, quote search or a chart.
- A numeric threshold and a direction, such as a move greater than or equal to your chosen level or less than or equal to it.
- Permission for the selected delivery channel: push notifications on a phone, or current email and wireless-number details for email or text delivery.
Decide which price type the platform should evaluate when that choice is offered. Schwab Mobile asks you to select the desired price type before entering the threshold. Use the condition that matches what you intend to monitor, then verify the saved alert in the platform’s alert list.
Write down the intended event in plain language before you start: for example, “notify me when SCHW is at or above my upper level” or “notify me when it is at or below my lower level.” Translating that sentence into the platform’s comparison menu helps prevent reversing the direction. Also decide where you need the message. If you are away from the app, email or wireless text may be preferable; if you watch the market from a phone, push notifications are usually the shortest path.

Set a price alert in Schwab Mobile
Create the alert
- Open the Schwab Mobile app and tap Markets.
- Tap search, enter SCHW, and select the security from the results.
- On the quote-details screen, tap Set an Alert.
- Choose Target price.
- Select the available price type and direction, enter your target price, and tap Set Alert.
The direction matters: a threshold with an upward condition will notify you on a move to or above the level, while a downward condition is intended for a move to or below the level. Enter your own threshold rather than copying an example from a tutorial.
Pause on the quote-details page long enough to confirm that the selected instrument is SCHW. The ticker is the key identifier in the search step; selecting a similarly named result would place the alert on the wrong security. After saving, do not rely solely on the confirmation tap. Open the alert list and read back the symbol, price type, direction and number.
Review, edit or inspect triggered alerts
- Tap the profile icon in Schwab Mobile.
- Choose Stock Alerts.
- Open the active-alert list to review or edit an alert.
- Open Triggered alerts to see alerts that have fired.
Schwab’s mobile tutorial says successfully triggered alerts are retained for up to 30 days. That history is useful for checking whether an alert fired when you were away from the app, but it is not a permanent trading log. If you need a longer record, note the event in your own records after reviewing it rather than assuming the app will retain it indefinitely.

Editing is also a chance to recheck the comparison, not merely to change the number. If your objective changes from watching an upside level to watching a downside level, change the direction and confirm the price type as well. When you no longer need an alert, remove or disable it from the same stock-alert area so an old condition does not create an unexpected notification later.
Other mobile alert categories
Schwab Mobile also supports alerts for price changes, news and events. The app’s push and text-alert controls determine how those notifications are delivered. If a price alert exists but no notification appears, check both the alert’s condition and the app’s notification permissions.

These categories let you monitor more than a single target number. A price-change alert can cover movement rather than one fixed level, while news and event alerts can draw attention to developments that may matter before you decide whether to review the quote. Keep each alert’s purpose clear so that a busy notification list remains understandable.
Set a securities alert on Schwab.com
Schwab.com’s Securities alerts tool is useful when you want email or wireless text, or when a price threshold is only one part of the monitoring you need. The tool can track an individual security using criteria that include price, volume, earnings, dividend, news and research reports.
- Sign in to Schwab.com.
- Open the securities-alert controls for the security and select SCHW.
- Choose the price criterion.
- Enter the condition and numeric threshold.
- Select email or wireless text message as the delivery channel.
- Save the alert, then return to the securities-alert list to confirm that it is active.
Button names and the exact location of the controls can vary with the logged-in account experience. If you cannot find the tool, use the site’s security or alert navigation while signed in and confirm that SCHW, the direction and the threshold are shown before leaving the page.
The web tool is not limited to price. You can use its volume, earnings, dividend, news and research-report criteria when those are more relevant to the question you are monitoring. For a straightforward target-price notification, select the price criterion and avoid adding unrelated criteria that could make the alert harder to interpret.
Because the delivery choices are tied to the securities-alert setup, verify the destination details before saving. An old email address or wireless number can make a correctly configured alert appear to be broken. After saving, return to the list and confirm that the alert is active rather than assuming that leaving the setup page completed the process.
Set an alert in thinkorswim mobile
Create a chart or quote alert
- Sign in to thinkorswim mobile with your Schwab credentials.
- Open SCHW’s quote or chart.
- Tap the alert or bell icon.
- Choose a trigger, such as greater than or equal to.
- Enter the threshold and tap Create Alert.
Allow the app to deliver it
- Open thinkorswim mobile Settings.
- Enable push notifications.
- Turn on the notification type associated with alerts.
- Check the phone’s operating-system notification settings if the app is enabled but no banner or sound appears.
The official iPhone tutorial uses an example threshold to demonstrate the sequence. That figure is illustrative; enter the SCHW level you actually want to monitor.

Thinkorswim mobile starts from the quote or chart, so first make sure the chart header identifies SCHW. The bell icon opens the alert workflow; it does not automatically inherit an alert made in Schwab Mobile. Choose the comparison shown in the trigger menu, type the level, and use Create Alert. Then check Settings and the phone’s system controls. Both layers matter: an alert can be present in the app while the operating system blocks its banner or sound.
If you use thinkorswim mobile and Schwab Mobile at the same time, give each alert a separate verification pass. A successful save in one app does not prove that a corresponding alert exists in the other.
Use thinkorswim desktop for advanced alerts
Enable notification channels
- Open Application Settings and select Notifications.
- Confirm the email address and phone details associated with the account.
- Enable Alert is triggered.
- Choose the channels you want to use. Schwab describes sound, email, text and mobile-app notifications.
- Apply the settings.
Create a price-condition alert
- Open the Monitor tab and use the bell icon, or right-click a chart and choose Create alert.
- Select SCHW as the security.
- Set the price condition and threshold.
- Save the alert.
Find active and triggered alerts
Open MarketWatch and select Alert Book. This is the desktop location for reviewing alerts that are active and those that have already triggered.

- Price-condition alerts for a threshold on SCHW or another security.
- Portfolio-metric alerts based on a portfolio measure.
- Calendar-event alerts.
- News alerts.
- Rating-change alerts.
Desktop updates also document one-cancels-other alerts for tracking two price conditions. That structure is useful when you want either of two price events to end the monitoring relationship, rather than maintaining unrelated alerts manually. If you use that structure, review both conditions before saving so you know which event will cancel the other.
The desktop workflow has two distinct tasks: defining the alert and defining how it is delivered. Creating a condition from Monitor or a chart does not replace the notification setup in Application Settings. Confirm the “Alert is triggered” control, contact details and selected channels, apply the settings, and then use Alert Book to check the result.
Why a Schwab Mobile alert does not appear in thinkorswim
Schwab Mobile alerts are not synchronized with alerts on Schwab.com or thinkorswim. Creating an SCHW target-price alert in the mobile app therefore does not automatically create the same alert in either of the other platforms. Charles Schwab states: “Please note that alerts on Schwab Mobile are not synchronized with alerts on thinkorswim® or the Schwab.com website.”
If you need the same threshold in multiple places, create it separately on each platform and verify each platform’s alert list. Treat each copy as an independent alert: changing or deleting one does not change the others.

The alert may still be active in the service where it was created. Return to Schwab Mobile’s Stock Alerts, Schwab.com’s securities-alert list or thinkorswim’s Alert Book, depending on the original workflow. The correct troubleshooting step is to look in the originating platform, then deliberately create a second alert if another platform must monitor the same level.
Choose the right condition and notification channel
Direction and threshold
A usable price alert has two essential parts: the direction or comparison condition and the numeric threshold. “Greater than or equal to” is appropriate when you want a notification at or above a level; the corresponding downward condition is appropriate when you want a notification at or below a level. Schwab Mobile additionally asks you to choose the price type. Review all three settings before saving because a correct number paired with the wrong direction can produce the opposite notification from the one you intended.
Do not treat the threshold as a complete instruction by itself. “100” could mean notify at or above 100 or at or below 100, depending on the selected condition. Likewise, the chosen price type can change what the number represents. Read the completed alert in the list after saving and compare it with the sentence you wrote before setup.
Push notifications
Push is the natural choice for Schwab Mobile and thinkorswim mobile. The app must be allowed to send notifications, and the relevant alert type must be enabled inside the app. Phone-level notification controls can still suppress the alert after the in-app setting is enabled.
Email and wireless text
Schwab.com’s securities-alert tool lists email and wireless text message as delivery choices. thinkorswim desktop also describes email and text among its notification options. Confirm the destination details in the account or application settings before relying on a message for a time-sensitive review.

Sound and mobile-app delivery on desktop
thinkorswim desktop describes sound and mobile-app notifications in addition to email and text. Select only channels you can monitor and keep the destination information current. Multiple channels can be useful for redundancy, but each one should be tested through the platform’s notification settings and then checked in the relevant alert list.

When investigating a missing message, work from the inside out. First prove that the alert is active and attached to SCHW. Next read the comparison and threshold. Finally inspect delivery permissions and contact details. This order separates a condition problem from a notification problem and avoids repeatedly creating duplicate alerts without knowing whether the original one is still active.
A verification checklist before you rely on the alert
- The security is SCHW, not a similarly named instrument.
- The selected price type is the one you intend to monitor.
- The comparison direction matches the event you want.
- The numeric threshold is entered correctly.
- The alert appears in the platform’s active-alert list after saving.
- The chosen delivery channel is enabled and points to current contact details.
- If you use more than one Schwab platform, the alert is created and checked separately on each one.
- You know where triggered alerts are stored: Stock Alerts on Schwab Mobile or Alert Book on thinkorswim desktop.
- You understand that Schwab Mobile’s triggered history is retained for up to 30 days, not indefinitely.
For the shortest setup, use Schwab Mobile’s quote-details workflow. Use Schwab.com when email or wireless text is the priority, thinkorswim mobile when you work from its charts, and thinkorswim desktop when you need broader alert categories or the Alert Book.

It means the alert condition is met when the monitored value reaches the threshold or moves above it. Use the corresponding downward comparison when your objective is a value at or below a level.
Where can I see an alert that already fired?

Can I monitor news or dividends instead of only price?
