In TradingView, create a price alert by opening Supercharts, choosing a symbol, selecting Create alert, setting the condition to Price, choosing an operator such as Crossing up or Less than, entering a level, selecting when it may trigger, and choosing delivery channels. Push notifications require both TradingView’s mobile-alert setting and permission from your phone’s operating system. Email, sound, browser toasts, in-app messages, plain text, and webhooks are also available, with webhooks subject to endpoint, timing, port, and security requirements.
What a TradingView price alert does
A TradingView alert watches a condition continuously and notifies you when that condition is met. A basic price alert compares the selected symbol’s value with a level you enter. You do not need to keep the chart open after creating it: alerts work on TradingView’s web version and in its desktop and mobile apps.

The alert has four decisions that determine its behavior:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Condition: what is being evaluated, such as the symbol’s price.
- Operator and level: whether the value must cross, rise above, or fall below a threshold.
- Frequency and expiration: how often the alert may fire and how long it remains active.
- Delivery: where the notification goes, including the app, phone push, email, sound, browser toast, plain text, or a webhook.
Keeping these decisions separate prevents common mistakes, such as creating an alert that fires in the wrong direction or expecting a phone notification when the phone has blocked app notifications.

Before you create an alert
Open the correct chart
Open Supercharts and select the exact symbol you want to monitor. Check the exchange or market shown in the symbol selector when similarly named instruments exist. The alert is tied to the selected symbol and its chart data, so choosing the wrong listing can produce a notification for a different instrument.
Choose where you will receive it
Decide whether you need the alert while away from the chart. For phone delivery, install the latest TradingView app, sign in with the same account, and be ready to grant notification permission in the phone’s operating-system settings. For browser toasts, the browser must also be allowed to show notifications. Email and webhook delivery do not depend on a chart tab remaining visible, but each has its own setup and reliability considerations.
Step-by-step: create a basic price alert
- Open Supercharts and select a symbol. Load the market and timeframe you use for your decision. A price condition evaluates the symbol’s value; the timeframe can matter when you choose a bar-close frequency.
- Open the alert dialog. Choose Create alert from the upper toolbar, open it from Alert manager, right-click the chart and use the chart context menu, or use the plus control beside the price scale. These entry points open the same alert-configuration workflow.
- Set the primary condition to Price. In the condition field, select Price rather than an indicator or drawing if you want a straightforward level alert.
- Select an operator. Choose Crossing, Crossing up, Crossing down, Greater than, or Less than. The choice controls the direction and meaning of the trigger; the options are not interchangeable.
- Enter the threshold. Type the price level at which the condition should be evaluated. Confirm the displayed number and decimal precision before proceeding.
- Set the trigger frequency. Select Only once, Every time, Once per bar close, or Once per minute, depending on the choices shown for the condition. Frequency determines whether a continuing condition can generate additional events.
- Set an expiration. Pick an expiration date and time, or use an open-ended alert where that option is available. An expiration prevents an old trade idea from continuing indefinitely.
- Add an alert name and message. Use a name that identifies the symbol, level, and purpose. Put action context in the message, such as “Review resistance test,” rather than relying on a generic notification.
- Choose delivery channels. Select the destinations you actually monitor: in-app notification, phone push through Notify in App, email, sound, browser toast, plain text, or webhook. Several channels can be selected for one alert.
- Create the alert. Save it, then check Alert manager to confirm that it is active and attached to the intended symbol and condition.
After saving, the alert runs according to the frequency and expiration you selected. If you want to change any part of it, edit the existing alert rather than creating a second one that could produce duplicate notifications.

Choosing the right price operator
The operator answers a directional question. Use the narrowest one that matches your plan so an alert does not fire on a move you did not intend to monitor.

| Operator | What it requires | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Crossing | The value reaches the level from either direction. | Monitor any contact with a specific price when direction is not important. |
| Crossing up | The value moves from below toward and through the threshold. | Watch for an upside breakout or recovery through a level. |
| Crossing down | The value moves from above toward and through the threshold. | Watch for a downside break or loss of support. |
| Greater than | The price rises above the threshold. | Be notified when price is above a ceiling or activation level. |
| Less than | The price falls below the threshold. | Be notified when price is below a floor or risk level. |
Crossing is about the event of reaching the level. Greater than and Less than describe the value being beyond the level. If you need the moment of a directional move, use the corresponding crossing-up or crossing-down operator; if you need an ongoing state beyond a threshold, use greater-than or less-than and choose a frequency that suits repeated monitoring.
Examples of operator selection
- If you want one notification whenever a symbol touches 100 from either side, choose Crossing at 100.
- If you only care about a move from below 100 to above it, choose Crossing up at 100.
- If a drop through 95 is the event that matters, choose Crossing down at 95.
- If you want a condition that becomes true after price is above 110, choose Greater than at 110.
- If you need to know when price is below 90, choose Less than at 90.
Frequency and expiration: control repeats and lifespan
| Setting | Behavior | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Only once | Stops producing additional notifications after its one trigger. | A single decision point, such as an entry review or one-time reminder. |
| Every time | Allows the condition to trigger whenever the configured rule is met again. | Repeated events matter and you are prepared for multiple messages. |
| Once per bar close | Evaluates the event at the close of each bar rather than reacting to every intrabar fluctuation. | You want confirmation at candle close and fewer transient signals. |
| Once per minute | Limits notifications to a minute-based cadence when the condition remains eligible to trigger. | You need recurring monitoring without a message on every tick. |
Set the expiration at the same time as the frequency. Use a dated expiration for a setup that is valid only during a particular session or period. Use an open-ended alert only when the condition remains useful indefinitely and the option is available in your account and alert type. Review old open-ended alerts periodically so a level from a completed plan does not remain active.
How to get TradingView alerts on your phone
- Install the latest TradingView app on your Android or iOS device.
- Sign in to the account that owns the alerts.
- In the phone’s operating-system settings, allow TradingView to send notifications. A system-level block overrides the alert’s own delivery checkbox.
- When creating or editing the alert, enable Notify in App or the equivalent push-notification option.
- Trigger a controlled test condition, when practical, to verify that the notification appears on the device you carry.
TradingView’s mobile help documentation states that alerts created on mobile enable push notifications by default. The Android help page also states that push notifications are available to all users regardless of plan type. Defaults can change, so inspect the alert dialog and the current operating-system permission screen rather than assuming a new alert has the setting you want.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why phone push may not arrive
- The alert was created without Notify in App enabled.
- The phone’s notification permission is disabled, or a focus, do-not-disturb, battery, or background-data setting is suppressing delivery.
- The app is signed in to a different TradingView account from the account that owns the alert.
- The alert has already expired, been paused, or fired once under an Only once frequency.
- The condition has not actually met the selected operator; a near miss is not a trigger.
Email, sound, in-app, toast, and plain-text delivery
The alert dialog can offer several non-webhook destinations. Select the channel that matches how quickly you need to react and where you normally work.

| Channel | Requirement | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Notify in App | TradingView alert option enabled; phone push also requires operating-system permission. | Best for mobile notifications away from the chart. |
| A usable email address on the account. | Useful for an auditable message, but inbox filtering can delay or hide it. | |
| Sound | Sound delivery selected and the listening device configured to play it. | Use a distinctive sound only when audible interruption is appropriate. |
| Toast notification | Browser notification permission must be granted. | Convenient at a workstation; browser permissions can be revoked or reset. |
| Plain text | Selected in the alert configuration. | Useful when a simple message is easier to parse than formatted content. |
Use more than one channel only when the redundancy is intentional. Selecting every channel for every alert can create noise and make an important message harder to notice.
Using webhooks for external automation
A TradingView webhook notifies an external application when an alert is triggered. Instead of displaying a message only in TradingView, the service sends an HTTP POST request to the URL you enter in the webhook field.
Webhook requirements and limits
- The receiving endpoint must be reachable over the public internet.
- Requests are limited to ports 80 and 443.
- If the receiving request takes more than three seconds, TradingView cancels it. Your endpoint should acknowledge quickly and process longer work asynchronously.
- When the body is valid JSON, TradingView sends it with the
application/jsoncontent type. - Two-factor authentication is required before webhook alerts can be used.
- Do not place passwords, API keys, or other sensitive credentials in webhook bodies. Treat the alert message as data that may be logged or exposed.
Webhook setup sequence
- Prepare an HTTPS endpoint on port 443 (or an HTTP endpoint on port 80) that can accept POST requests.
- Make the endpoint return a fast success response. Queue downstream actions instead of keeping the request open while a trade, message, or database operation runs.
- Enable two-factor authentication on the TradingView account if it is not already enabled.
- In the alert dialog, select the webhook delivery option and enter the exact endpoint URL.
- Put only the event data your receiver needs in the message. If you use JSON, validate its syntax before saving.
- Create the alert and inspect your receiver’s logs after a controlled trigger. Confirm the request arrived, was parsed correctly, and did not expose secrets.
A webhook is an integration, not a guaranteed trade-execution instruction. Build authentication, replay protection, logging, and error handling into the receiving service, and test what happens when the endpoint is unavailable or responds slowly.
Manage, pause, and audit alerts
Open Alert manager to maintain the alerts associated with your account. From there you can pause an alert temporarily, resume it, edit its condition or delivery settings, delete it, and sort the list for review.

Use Alerts Log to verify what happened
Triggered events appear in Alerts Log. Review the log when you are unsure whether an alert fired, which condition produced an event, or whether repeated notifications came from the same rule. The log can be exported to CSV for record-keeping or further analysis.
A maintenance routine that avoids stale notifications
- After creating an alert, confirm its symbol, operator, threshold, frequency, expiration, and channels in Alert manager.
- Pause alerts when a trading plan is suspended rather than deleting them if you may resume the plan.
- Delete alerts tied to completed setups so they cannot surprise you later.
- Use the Alerts Log to distinguish a delivery problem from a condition that never triggered.
- Export the log when you need an external record of triggered events.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The alert never fires
Open the alert in Alert manager and verify the selected symbol and threshold. Recheck the operator: Crossing up will not fire on a move down, and Crossing down will not fire on a move up. Confirm that the alert is active, has not expired, and that the chosen frequency has not already consumed its one allowed event. A price that approaches a level without satisfying the operator is not a trigger.
The alert fires more often than expected
Inspect the frequency. Every time is designed to permit repeated events, while Only once is designed for a single event. If intrabar movement is creating noise, choose Once per bar close where available; if you need a recurring but less frequent check, consider Once per minute.

Verify Notify in App in the alert itself, then check TradingView’s notification permission in Android or iOS settings. Confirm the app is signed in to the alert-owning account and that system modes are not suppressing background notifications. An email arriving proves the condition fired, but it does not prove that phone push permission is enabled.

A browser toast does not appear
Grant notification permission to the browser for the TradingView site and check that the browser or operating system is not in a silent mode. If permission was previously denied, change it in the browser’s site settings and then recheck the alert’s toast option.
The webhook is missing or timing out
Check that the URL is publicly reachable on port 80 or 443, that two-factor authentication is enabled, and that the receiver accepts POST requests. Review server logs for status codes and request timing. A response that takes longer than three seconds can be canceled, so return an immediate acknowledgement and move slow processing to a queue. If the receiver expects JSON, validate the message and its application/json handling.
Design alerts that are useful rather than noisy
Name alerts for the decision they support
Include the symbol, level, direction, and purpose in the name. “Review — symbol — above 100” is easier to manage than “Alert 12” when dozens of alerts are active. Put the next action in the message, but do not encode credentials or private information.
Match frequency to the decision
A one-time breakout review generally needs a one-time or bar-close event, while a condition that can recur may justify Every time. The frequency should reflect how many decisions you can realistically make; repeated notifications that require no action are noise.
Use expiration as a risk control
Give session-specific ideas a specific end time. Reserve open-ended alerts for levels that remain meaningful beyond the current plan, and include them in your periodic Alert manager review.
Separate awareness from automation
Use app, email, sound, or toast channels for human attention. Use a webhook only when an external system is ready to receive, authenticate, log, and safely process the event. A notification that reaches a human and a POST that starts automation have different failure consequences.
