Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →In OBS Studio, open Settings > Video and set Common FPS Value to 30. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution separately to the resolution you intend to send to YouTube. That configures a 30 fps output; it does not make a stream nonstop by itself. A long-running stream also depends on stable upload bandwidth, suitable encoder settings, monitoring and a local recording if the content matters.
Set OBS to 30 fps
- Open OBS Studio and select Settings.
- Select Video.
- Set Common FPS Value to 30. OBS recommends matching this setting to the frame rate you want to output. OBS Studio Overview Guide
- Check Output (Scaled) Resolution. This is the resolution OBS sends to the stream; Base (Canvas) Resolution is the workspace used to arrange sources. Choose an output resolution your connection and encoder can sustain.
- Select Apply, then OK, and test the stream before relying on the configuration.
OBS labels and available options can vary with its version, operating system and hardware. If you do not see the exact same encoder choices described below, use the closest compatible options available and verify the resulting stream in YouTube Live Control Room.

Choose a resolution and bitrate you can sustain
Thirty frames per second is only one part of the output. Resolution affects detail and the bandwidth and encoding capacity required. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends the following bitrates for these 30 fps resolutions; these are platform recommendations, not guarantees that a particular computer or internet connection will sustain them. YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
| Output resolution | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps | Consider it when the lower bandwidth demand is a better fit for your connection or the content does not need the extra detail of 1080p. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | Consider it when the content benefits from more detail and your upload and encoder can sustain the higher bitrate. |
There is no universally best choice between these two settings. Make the decision based on the detail viewers need, reliable upload capacity and available system or encoder capacity. OBS notes that higher frame rates can tax a system more than lower ones; test your own setup rather than assuming a setting will work because it is available. OBS Studio Overview Guide

Use YouTube-compatible output settings
In OBS’s streaming output or encoder settings, configure the output for YouTube’s ingest requirements. For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube specifies constant bitrate (CBR) and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. Choose the bitrate for your resolution and codec from YouTube’s current guidance. YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
Do not confuse the recommended video bitrate with all of the upload capacity your internet connection needs. YouTube advises allowing 20% upload headroom above the total outgoing bitrate. The connection can still be disrupted, so headroom reduces risk rather than guaranteeing continuity. YouTube streaming tips

Test the stream before leaving it running
- Test representative content. Use the same resolution, frame rate, encoder and bitrate planned for the real stream, with representative movement and audio. YouTube advises testing before starting a live stream. YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Check stream health. Watch the Live Control Room during the test and operation. Look for connection or encoding problems and confirm that audio and video continue to behave as expected.
- Check local recording. If the stream’s content matters, record a local archive and verify that the file is being written and is playable. A live platform archive is not a substitute for a checked local backup.
- Test your recovery plan. If your setup has a backup encoder, test switching to it before an outage. A backup that has not been tested is not a dependable failover plan.
YouTube recommends a test stream, continuous audio and video monitoring, checking local archive files and testing backup-encoder failover where available. YouTube streaming tips

What “nonstop” can and cannot mean on YouTube
OBS has no frame-rate setting that guarantees an uninterrupted stream. A network disruption can break the stream, and a computer, encoder or power failure can stop it. Continuous operation is a reliability goal that requires monitoring and a recovery plan, not an outcome promised by choosing 30 fps.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If a complete archive matters, keep and verify a local recording, and plan around YouTube’s stated limits rather than assuming a single long broadcast will be preserved. Troubleshoot a 30 fps YouTube stream
| Symptom | What to check | Practical fix |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health reports connection problems or the stream drops | Whether the connection can maintain the outgoing bitrate plus YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom. | Test the connection under the planned streaming conditions. If it cannot sustain the setting reliably, lower the bitrate or output resolution, then test again. YouTube notes that network disruption can break a stream. YouTube streaming tips |
| Video stutters or encoding struggles | Whether the system or selected encoder can handle the chosen resolution, frame rate and content. | Test at 30 fps and consider reducing output resolution or bitrate if the encoder cannot keep up. OBS notes that encoding demands vary; hardware encoding can move work from the CPU to a specialized GPU component when supported. OBS Studio Overview Guide OBS hardware encoding |
| OBS is set to 30 fps, but the stream’s resolution is not what you expected | Output (Scaled) Resolution, not just Base (Canvas) Resolution. | Set the output resolution you intend to send to YouTube; the canvas setting describes the source-layout workspace. |
| The stream ends or the archive is incomplete after a very long session | Whether the stream exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive caveat, and whether a local recording was running. | Check a verified local recording for a complete copy and plan archive-dependent sessions with YouTube’s stated limit in mind.
