How to Run a 24/7 YouTube Chillhop Radio Stream With Song Rotation

You can run a continuous YouTube radio stream by feeding a prepared rotation of tracks and visuals into a streaming encoder such as OBS, then monitoring the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room. But the first step is rights clearance—not software setup: YouTube scans livestreams for copyrighted material, and Chillhop Music explicitly says not to use its music for a 24/7 stream. Get written permission for continuous live use and any archive, and ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID, before broadcasting.

First, confirm that the music is allowed for this format

A track being downloadable, credited, available in a creator program, or licensed for ordinary videos does not establish permission for continuous live rebroadcast. Obtain written terms from the actual rights holders that explicitly cover the format you plan to run.

Why Chillhop’s creator terms do not clear a 24/7 stream

Chillhop Music’s official Creators FAQ says: “Please do not use our music to create your own 24/7 music stream. If this happens, it will be taken down.” The FAQ also limits creator use to tracks in its dashboard, requires credits, says its music is not royalty-free, and prohibits using its Spotify or Apple Music playlists as livestream sources. It also says not to use Chillhop artwork or logos. Credit does not override the 24/7 restriction.

Ask for the exact rights you need

Before adding any track to the rotation, ask the rights holder or its authorized label or distributor—in writing—whether your channel may use it in a continuous YouTube livestream. Clarify the territories covered, whether YouTube may save an archive or replay, whether permission covers both the sound recording and the underlying composition, and how Content ID claims will be handled. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a livestream (YouTube for Artists).

#1 Best Overall

YouTube says licensed streams can still be interrupted if the channel is not on the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Request allowlisting for the channel that will broadcast, and confirm how claims will be resolved. Do not treat a consumer music subscription, a playlist, or ownership of an audio file as a broadcast license.

Check YouTube’s live-stream requirements

As stated in YouTube Help’s encoder guidance, current requirements include channel verification, no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a minimum age of 16 to livestream. The same guidance lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. These platform rules can change, so confirm them in YouTube’s current encoder-streaming instructions before scheduling a broadcast.

Use YouTube Live Control Room to prepare the broadcast and obtain the stream key. Treat that key like a password: put it only into your chosen encoder, do not share it publicly, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.

Build a rotation and send it through an encoder

An encoder sends the composed video-and-audio program to YouTube. OBS is one free, open-source option; its connection runs from the computer directly to the streaming destination. An encoder is suitable for a designed visual loop and continuous audio program, but it is not, by itself, a music-rotation system or a rights-clearance tool.

  1. Prepare a rights-cleared catalog. Keep only tracks whose written permission covers continuous YouTube livestreaming and the territories you intend to serve. Store the applicable credit text and license terms alongside the files so they are not lost when the rotation changes.
  2. Choose and verify a rotation method. Configure an audio source, playlist, or other rotation mechanism to feed tracks to the encoder. The sources cited here do not establish a particular application, OBS feature, or plugin as a turnkey scheduler. Test the sequence yourself: check that the next track starts, that there are no unintended gaps or overlaps, and that the rotation continues unattended as intended.
  3. Design the visual scene. Add only visuals you are permitted to use, such as your own artwork or a properly licensed loop. Do not use Chillhop artwork or logos under its creator FAQ. Check that the scene remains active while the audio source changes.
  4. Connect the encoder to YouTube. In Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, copy its stream key, and enter it in the encoder’s streaming settings. Keep the key private. Start the encoder and confirm in Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving the intended audio and picture before making the broadcast public.
  5. Monitor the running stream. Watch both the encoder connection status and Live Control Room. OBS says dropped frames indicate an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Lowering the configured bitrate may help if the connection cannot keep up, but no particular bitrate, computer specification, or network plan is established here as sufficient for continuous operation.
  6. Choose whether to archive. If you enable an archive, ensure your written license covers saved replays as well as live transmission. YouTube says Content ID claims on archived livestreams are made after the stream ends when the creator chooses to archive it.

OBS’s connection and dropped-frame guidance is available in its stream connection troubleshooting documentation. A continuous broadcast also needs an operational plan for power, internet interruptions, restarts, monitoring, and recovery. The guidance cited here does not establish a hardware minimum, a 24/7 uptime guarantee, or a tested failover design; plan and test those details for your own setup.

What can interrupt the broadcast

YouTube says all livestreams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including other copyrighted live broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and issue a warning asking you to stop using the material. Leaving it in place can lead to a temporary interruption or termination; a copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. A Content ID allowlist request is therefore an important operational step, not a substitute for permission.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • YouTube shows a placeholder or warns about copyrighted content: Stop the disputed material. Check the track against your written license, confirm that the correct channel is allowlisted, and contact the rights holder about the match. Do not assume a license alone prevents interruption.
  • The stream is interrupted despite permission: Ask the rights holder to verify that the exact channel is on its Content ID allowlist and that the permission covers the territories in which you are broadcasting. Resolve the claim with the rights holder before restarting the same rotation.
  • The encoder reports dropped frames: Check whether the connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate, as OBS describes. Stabilize the connection or reduce the bitrate, then verify the feed in Live Control Room.
  • The rotation stops, repeats unexpectedly, or goes silent: Inspect the configured audio source or playlist and test transitions with the encoder running. Rotation behavior depends on the method you chose; the cited platform and encoder documentation does not promise a built-in scheduler.
  • The archive receives a claim after the live ends: Review the archived content against the license and contact the rights holder. Confirm archive and replay rights before enabling archiving on future broadcasts.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a prerecorded music program, StreamNeo can keep a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos or a playlist: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. You still need rights for every track and visual, and StreamNeo does not clear music rights or broadcast from a live camera.
