How to Set OBS Output Resolution for a 24/7 YouTube Stream on JioFiber

Begin with 720p30 at YouTube’s recommended 4 Mbps H.264 bitrate, then test before moving to 1080p30. JioFiber’s advertised speed is not a sustained-upload guarantee.

Start with 1280×720 at 30 fps and YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate of 4 Mbps. Move to 1920×1080 at 30 fps—recommended at 10 Mbps—only after a representative test shows stable upload, adequate computer encoding capacity and healthy YouTube stream status. Those are YouTube’s published recommendations, not a guarantee of what your JioFiber connection can sustain.

Choose a resolution your connection can sustain

For a 24/7 stream, steady delivery matters more than selecting the highest resolution in OBS. A connection may perform well in a brief speed test but fluctuate later because of Wi-Fi, household traffic or other conditions. Use a conservative mode first, test with the computer and network you intend to use, and keep upload headroom rather than setting the stream bitrate equal to your speed-test result.

Mode YouTube H.264 recommended bitrate When to consider it
1280×720 at 30 fps 4 Mbps Conservative starting point for a first sustained test.
1280×720 at 60 fps 6 Mbps When smoother motion is useful and the connection and encoder remain stable.
1920×1080 at 30 fps 10 Mbps After a representative test confirms stable upload and healthy ingestion.
1920×1080 at 60 fps 12 Mbps Only when both the sustained connection and computer can handle the higher load.

These are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, not measurements of an individual JioFiber plan. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, with frame rates up to 60 fps; bitrate guidance differs by codec, so do not apply the H.264 figures to another encoder codec. See YouTube’s live encoder recommendations.

Set up OBS and YouTube

  1. Prepare the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. YouTube ordinarily detects the incoming encoder resolution and frame rate. Manual resolution behavior is available with custom stream key settings. Follow the stream setup shown in the Live Control Room.
  2. Set OBS video and output resolution. In OBS, open the video/output controls and choose the intended stream output resolution. Start at 1280×720 for the first test. OBS labels can vary by version and output mode; its YouTube streaming guide directs streamers to Output settings for stream output configuration.
  3. Match frame rate and encoder settings. Set the frame rate to the mode you chose and configure the streaming encoder. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, as YouTube recommends. Use RTMP or RTMPS as appropriate for YouTube’s current ingest settings; prefer RTMPS where available.
  4. Start a representative test. Include the kind of motion and audio expected in the continuous stream. Allow the test to run long enough to reveal fluctuations, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health feedback as well as OBS connection status.
  5. Adjust conservatively if unstable. Reduce bitrate first if OBS reports connection trouble or YouTube shows unstable ingestion. If needed, lower frame rate or resolution and test again. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams for viewers at different formats, so sending a higher-resolution feed is not the only way viewers can watch.

What JioFiber’s advertised speed does—and does not—tell you

Jio describes JioFiber as symmetric, meaning upload speed equals download speed, and advertises speeds up to 1 Gbps. That headline does not establish the sustained upload available to your particular plan, location, Wi-Fi or Ethernet path, household network, or a continuous broadcast. Measure from the computer that will run OBS under representative conditions, including the usual household network load, and retain headroom. See Jio’s JioFiber service page.

Jio’s plan FAQ describes home plans as unlimited, while also saying RJIL may discontinue data services for misuse, fraudulent, unauthorized or commercial use. The FAQ does not determine whether a particular continuous YouTube broadcast qualifies as commercial use. If the stream is commercial, check the terms for your specific plan and ask Jio about your intended use. See JioFiber plan FAQ.

Diagnose common stream problems

Symptom Likely issue to check What to do
OBS reports dropped frames or connection trouble The bitrate may exceed what the connection can sustain consistently, or upload capacity may be fluctuating. Lower the video bitrate, retest under normal network load and keep headroom below measured sustained upload.
YouTube shows unstable stream health Incoming delivery may be inconsistent, or the selected output settings may be too demanding for the connection. Use YouTube’s feedback to guide the test; reduce bitrate first, then lower frame rate or resolution if instability continues.
OBS cannot maintain the chosen mode despite stable network upload The computer may not encode the selected resolution and frame rate reliably. Check encoder load during a representative test, then reduce frame rate or resolution and test again.
The stream looks softer than expected after changing output settings The output resolution, frame rate or bitrate may not be suited to the content, or the encoder settings may not match the intended mode. Verify the OBS output and encoder settings, then compare the lower-load and higher-quality modes using similar motion and audio.

Or let it run in the cloud

If keeping a computer and home connection running around the clock is not practical, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
