Before you upload or broadcast anything, secure written permission for the specific recordings and compositions, the territories where they will be streamed, and any replay you plan to keep. YouTube may interrupt a live stream that matches third-party content—even when you have a licence, if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel.
Clear the music rights before building the stream
A Tamil song may involve separate rights in the sound recording and the underlying composition, as well as interests held by artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants. YouTube’s livestream terms put the responsibility on the content provider to hold the necessary rights for the live content, including relevant music licences and approvals. A consumer music subscription does not, by itself, establish permission to rebroadcast songs on a public livestream.

Allowlisting is a separate step
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. Its copyright guidance says a detected stream may receive a warning and placeholder image; if the material continues, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a livestream.

A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption. YouTube says a licensed stream may still be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Ask each relevant owner, label or distributor about allowlisting before launch. YouTube for Artists likewise advises music channels to coordinate with their label or distributor when using copyright-protected music during a livestream.

A cloud VM running FFmpeg is not the same thing as a managed streaming service. On a VM, you are responsible for keeping the encoder process alive. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API, by contrast, is a managed transcoding and output service: its documentation describes RTMP or SRT inputs and HLS or MPEG-DASH outputs. It is one possible managed design, not a required or established cheapest option.

Set up a self-managed cloud server
The following workflow describes the components and operating decisions, not a tested command or a verified server specification for Tamil music. The available official documentation does not establish a single suitable VM size, current provider price, complete FFmpeg command or universal bitrate for this use case. Choose those details against the cloud provider’s current documentation and the ingest requirements shown for your YouTube stream.
1. Confirm rights, source files and replay plans
- Assemble only recordings and compositions cleared for the live use and intended territories.
- Ask the relevant rights holders or distributor to allowlist your YouTube channel in Content ID where applicable.
- Decide whether YouTube should retain an archived replay; make sure your clearance covers that replay before enabling or keeping it.
- Prepare a stable playlist or audio-video source that the encoder can read continuously. Check that the files play through cleanly and that the playlist does not stop at its end.
2. Select a VM or managed service
For a self-managed design, select a cloud VM and operating system that can run your chosen encoder and read the source files for as long as the stream runs. The source material does not establish a recommended instance size, storage capacity, network allowance or provider price. Estimate these from your actual media, encoding workload, region and outbound delivery, and verify current provider limits and charges before committing.
If you prefer not to operate transcoding and output packaging yourself, evaluate a managed service instead. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API accepts RTMP or SRT inputs and documents H.264 video and AAC audio inputs, with HLS or MPEG-DASH outputs. Confirm that the service’s input and output path fits the publishing workflow you intend to use.

3. Connect the source, encoder and YouTube ingest
- In YouTube’s live-stream setup, create or select the live destination and obtain its ingest details and stream key. Follow the current YouTube interface for the channel; the material available here does not establish a specific UI path or key-setting value.
- Configure the encoder to read your cleared playlist or media source and send a continuous live feed to the ingest destination. Google Cloud describes an encoder as a program that sends input streams and gives FFmpeg as an example.
- Use the protocol and media formats supported by the receiving service. For the Google Cloud Live Stream API, the documented input protocols include RTMP and SRT, and its overview lists H.264 video and AAC audio inputs.
- Set video resolution, frame rate, bitrate, keyframe interval and audio parameters to values accepted by the selected ingest endpoint and encoder. There is no verified universal value for a 24/7 Tamil songs stream in the available documentation; do not copy a generic setting without checking the current endpoint requirements and testing the actual source.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not put it in a public script, repository, screenshot or support post. Rotate it through YouTube’s current controls if it is exposed.
4. Test before announcing a continuous channel
- Run a short private or unlisted test and check that the destination receives both audio and video (if your feed includes video), that the playlist advances, and that playback is stable.
- Watch for copyright warnings or placeholder imagery during the test. A clean test does not replace written rights clearance or Content ID allowlisting.
- Check the server’s CPU, memory, disk and network use under the intended encoding settings. If the VM cannot maintain the encoder workload, reduce the workload or select suitable infrastructure rather than assuming the process will recover on its own.
- Confirm how the encoder behaves when the source ends, the network drops, YouTube disconnects, or the VM reboots. Arrange alerts and a restart mechanism before treating the stream as 24/7.
5. Monitor and recover continuously
A 24/7 stream is an operating task, not just a command that runs once. Monitor the encoder process, incoming feed and published stream; retain logs that help identify whether a failure came from the source, VM, network, ingest or rights enforcement. Configure a supervised process or equivalent restart handling, and decide who receives alerts and how quickly they will respond.
If you use Google Cloud’s Live Stream API, account for a documented service constraint: its quota documentation says, “After 24 hours in any StreamingState other than STOPPED or STOPPING, the channel may be restarted.” This applies to channels using that API; it is not a universal YouTube livestream limit. Build monitoring and restart handling around that behavior, and have a continuity or backup plan appropriate to the channel.
Estimate costs without guessing
A self-managed VM’s total cost depends on the selected region and machine, how much media you store, outbound delivery, and whether you use additional services. A managed service has its own service and delivery charges. No current region-specific server price, tested machine size or verified cost comparison is established here, so get a current estimate from the provider for your exact settings before launching.

Include operational work in the decision: a VM may give you direct control, but you own encoder maintenance, monitoring and recovery. A managed service can take on processing and packaging, but you still need to understand its limits, costs and continuity behavior.
