For a stereo YouTube Live stream, set OBS audio bitrate to 128 Kbps, choose AAC, and set the audio sample rate to 44.1 kHz. YouTube publishes those bitrate and sample-rate targets for stereo live audio; they are not special settings for Indian classical music or for a 24/7 schedule.
Set OBS for stereo YouTube Live audio
- Set the streaming audio bitrate. In OBS, open Settings → Output and locate the streaming audio bitrate control. Choose 128 Kbps for the stereo audio sent to YouTube Live. Depending on OBS version and output mode, labels or available controls can vary.
- Set the audio sample rate. In OBS audio settings, choose 44.1 kHz for stereo, matching YouTube’s advanced live-encoder recommendation.
- Use AAC audio. Confirm that the stream’s audio encoder is AAC. OBS identifies AAC as its default, widely supported audio format. YouTube also lists MP3 as a supported RTMP/RTMPS audio codec, but AAC is the straightforward compatibility choice for this setup.
- Confirm stereo output. These figures apply to stereo audio. If your stream is configured differently, check YouTube’s current encoder guidance for that configuration rather than assuming the stereo target applies.
YouTube’s live encoder settings specify 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz for stereo. Raising bitrate above the published stereo target is not automatically a quality improvement.

What changes for Indian classical music and a 24/7 schedule?
YouTube’s reviewed encoder guidance does not prescribe a different audio bitrate for Indian classical music, nor does it set a bitrate adjustment based on broadcast duration. Treat 128 Kbps as YouTube’s stated stereo recommendation—not the result of genre-specific listening tests.

Codec and delivery details
YouTube supports AAC or MP3 audio with RTMP/RTMPS ingest and recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data into and through Google’s servers. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers. These delivery details do not alter the stereo bitrate and sample-rate settings above. OBS’s formats guidance describes AAC as broadly supported.
Test and troubleshoot before leaving the stream unattended
Audio sounds distorted, thin, or inconsistent
- Check that the intended OBS audio source is active and that the output is stereo.
- Verify the streaming encoder uses AAC and the stereo bitrate is 128 Kbps. Confirm the audio sample rate is 44.1 kHz.
- Listen to a test using representative material from the playlist, rather than judging the settings from a different source or a brief silent segment.
The stream drops or YouTube reports poor health
- Check OBS and YouTube’s stream-health messages, then choose an overall stream quality the upload connection can sustain reliably. Audio bitrate is only one part of total stream load.
- Test the connection and representative audio and movement before the long broadcast. A setting that works briefly may still be unsuitable for an unattended schedule if the connection is unstable.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes audio codec and stream-health checks. A particular warning does not necessarily apply to every account or ingest configuration.
