YouTube’s documentation does not establish that a generic Android TV box can encode and sustain a 24/7 YouTube Live broadcast. YouTube documents Android Mobile Live for broadcasting a device’s camera view, and a separate encoder workflow for prepared feeds such as a music programme. Before committing to an all-day stream, verify the exact box’s encoder support, network and recovery behavior—and secure the rights to every track.
Why an Android TV box may not be a broadcaster
A device that plays YouTube or other video on a television is not automatically capable of sending a live broadcast to YouTube. Android TV documentation covers TV apps and input frameworks; it does not certify generic Android TV boxes as YouTube Live encoders. Compatibility depends on the exact model, its software, hardware encoding and available apps.

YouTube’s Android Mobile Live instructions describe a phone-style workflow that broadcasts the device camera view. They do not describe selecting a playlist on a TV box and running it headlessly around the clock. The documented prepared-feed route is an encoder: software or hardware that converts the source into a stream and sends it to YouTube.

What YouTube documents for Android Mobile Live
Google’s Android Mobile Live specification lists Android Marshmallow/API 23 or newer, a camera capable of 720p at at least 30 Hz, an onboard microphone, hardware-accelerated audio and video encoders, and YouTube app 13.02 or higher. These are requirements for that mobile workflow—not general Android TV box requirements. Meeting them would not establish that a box can play a prepared music feed into a continuous live broadcast.
For current compatibility, check the exact model and app availability rather than assuming that a TV box can use the mobile workflow. The cited documentation does not promise TV-box support or 24/7 playlist playout.
For prepared music, use an encoder workflow
YouTube’s encoder setup is the documented route for sending a prepared production feed. The encoder connects to YouTube with a server URL and stream key. A TV box would only be suitable if its specific software and hardware can produce and sustain that compatible output; the official setup guide does not certify any generic box as a substitute for an encoder.

- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
- Check the source and device. Confirm the exact box can play the intended media and has an app or encoder that outputs RTMP or RTMPS. Check supported video and audio codecs, hardware encoding, and whether the system can keep the process running continuously.
- Configure YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use the server URL and stream key shown for that stream in the encoder. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Set encoder output. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as video codec options, and AAC or MP3 for audio. Its guidance recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. Choose a resolution and bitrate the specific encoder and network can maintain; these recommendations do not prove that a particular TV box supports them.
- Test before going public. Use audio and motion similar to the planned programme, check the YouTube preview and stream health, and confirm sound and picture before launch. Monitor stream health during the event rather than assuming the initial connection will remain healthy.
- Plan for interruptions and recovery. Determine how the box or encoder behaves after a network outage, app crash, power loss or YouTube disconnect. A 24/7 plan needs a way to notice failures and restore the feed; the cited YouTube guidance recommends monitoring but does not promise automatic recovery from every failure.

Clear music rights before streaming
Having a copy of a song, or a license for one use, does not necessarily give permission to broadcast it worldwide as part of a live stream. YouTube’s livestream terms say the content provider represents that it has the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and other royalty participants. Which permissions apply depends on the tracks and intended use; the cited sources are not a complete India-specific legal checklist.
YouTube also scans live streams for third-party matches. It may replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt it or terminate it. YouTube says even licensed third-party content can be interrupted unless the rights owner adds the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm both permissions and any required allowlisting with the relevant rights holders before scheduling a continuous programme.

Do not assume a 24-hour stream will be fully archived
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not promise a complete automatic archive for a continuous stream longer than 12 hours. If you need the full programme afterward, arrange and verify a separate recording or archive workflow rather than relying on the automatic archive statement.

Check these points before choosing a box
- Exact model, operating-system version and compatible app availability.
- RTMP or RTMPS output, codec support and hardware-encoding capability.
- Ability to play the intended source continuously without the app sleeping or stopping.
- Network stability and a practical way to monitor stream health.
- Behavior after power, network, app or YouTube interruptions, including restart and recovery.
- Rights for every recording and a plan for Content ID allowlisting where the rights owner requires it.
- A separate recording plan if the complete programme must be retained.
These are evaluation criteria based on YouTube’s encoder requirements and monitoring guidance, not results from testing a particular Android TV box. The cited official sources do not establish a compatible model, uninterrupted 24/7 uptime, or how longer-than-12-hour streams will be archived in every case.

Troubleshooting a box-based stream
- The box plays music, but YouTube receives no video: Playback on a TV is not the same as encoder output. Confirm that the chosen software can send an RTMP/RTMPS feed to the server URL and stream key.
- The encoder will not connect: Recheck the server URL and stream key in YouTube Studio and the encoder. Verify that the software supports the required output protocol and that the network permits the connection.
- Video or audio is unstable: Check YouTube’s preview and stream health, then lower output demands if the encoder or connection cannot sustain them. Use constant bitrate and the recommended two-second keyframe interval, within YouTube’s stated limit of four seconds.
- The stream is interrupted despite having music permission: YouTube’s live copyright matching can still interrupt licensed third-party content. Ask the rights owner whether the channel must be added to the Content ID allowlist.
- The box stops after running unattended: Check app sleep behavior, power settings, network continuity and restart behavior. YouTube’s encoder guidance calls for monitoring; it does not certify a box for unattended operation.
- The full day is missing from the archive: YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours. Use a separate recording workflow for a longer programme and verify the resulting files.
