To capture a website screenshot at a recurring time with Apify, run a screenshot Actor or task successfully once, then create a schedule using a cron expression and the intended timezone. Use the schedule preview to verify the next run. Apify says scheduled events usually fire within one second of the target time, but overload or server shutdown can delay them, so treat the time as a target rather than a guarantee.
Choose an Apify Actor for the capture
For a straightforward capture of one URL, Apify’s Screenshot URL Actor is the simple example to start with. Its input includes a specified URL. Apify describes the Actor as storing screenshot files in a Key-Value Store and publishing screenshot links and page metadata to a dataset.

If the job requires crawling multiple pages, adaptive rendering, anti-scraping strategies, automatic cookie-banner closing, or broader customization, Apify points to its Website Content Crawler as a more advanced option. Select based on the page and capture requirements: a single viewport shot is different from a full-page capture, and dynamic or lazy-loaded content may need more setup than a static page.

- Open the Actor or task. Enter the target website URL and configure any supported capture options.
- Run it once manually. Confirm the page loads as expected and that the resulting screenshot and output data meet your needs. Apify’s schedule guidance says the Actor should have run at least once before scheduling.
- Review the output. For Screenshot URL, find the image in the Actor’s Key-Value Store and its link and page metadata in the dataset.
Testing before scheduling catches problems such as a wrong URL, an unexpected viewport, or a page that needs rendering or interaction before it is ready.
Create a schedule for the intended time
- Open Apify Schedules and create a schedule for the Actor or task you tested.
- Enter a cron expression for the recurrence. Apify’s schedule guide uses
0 8 * * *as an example for a daily run at 8:00. - Select the timezone for the local time you mean. For example, use the timezone corresponding to the intended 8:00 AM rather than assuming the cron expression is interpreted in your computer’s timezone.
- Set the schedule-specific Actor input if needed. Apify’s schedule documentation describes input overrides; if you do not provide an override, the Actor’s default input is used.
- Inspect the displayed next-run time, then save and enable the schedule.
Apify supports timezone settings and daylight-saving shifts. Confirm the next-run preview reflects the intended local time and check how the selected timezone’s daylight-saving changes affect future runs. The schedule API reference describes fields including cronExpression, timezone, isEnabled, and nextRunAt.

Understand the timing and output
A scheduled run is not a frame-accurate capture at an exact second. Apify documents that scheduled events are fired within one second of the scheduled time in most cases, while noting that overload or server shutdown can cause delays. If a screenshot must correspond to a narrow event window, allow for that uncertainty and verify the run’s actual start and output rather than treating the schedule as a hard real-time trigger.
After execution, use the Actor’s run output to locate the files and metadata. With Screenshot URL, screenshot files are stored in a Key-Value Store and links to the files, alongside page metadata, are published to a dataset. Apify also documents API access and integrations for working with platform output.

Select the right capture behavior
- Single page or crawl: use Screenshot URL for a simple specified-URL capture; consider Website Content Crawler for crawling and advanced rendering needs.
- Viewport or full page: decide whether the visible viewport is enough or whether the whole document must be captured, and verify the chosen Actor supports the required behavior.
- Dynamic and lazy-loaded content: test the page manually and determine whether it needs time to render or additional interaction before capture.
- Consent banners and overlays: check whether they appear in the output. Apify identifies automatic cookie-banner closing among the Website Content Crawler’s advanced capabilities.
- Change detection or notifications: some separately maintained community Actors advertise monitoring and integrations, but their functionality and availability are Actor-specific. Confirm the current listing and test it before relying on it.
Community listings may show their own inputs, such as URL, full-page capture, viewport dimensions, or image format. Those are not universal Apify schedule or Actor fields; use the selected Actor’s current input schema. Also check the current usage pricing for that Actor and workflow instead of assuming one price applies across the platform.
Troubleshoot missed or incorrect captures
- The schedule does not appear to run: check that it is enabled, targets the intended Actor or task, and has a valid cron expression. Confirm the displayed next-run time.
- The run happens at the wrong local time: inspect the schedule timezone and next-run preview. A cron time without the intended timezone can be misread, especially around daylight-saving changes.
- The scheduled capture differs from the manual test: check the schedule’s input override. Without an override, the Actor’s default input is used.
- The screenshot is blank, incomplete, or shows a banner: rerun manually and examine page rendering, capture settings, and whether the selected Actor handles the site’s dynamic content or consent overlay.
- The run starts late: Apify documents possible delays from system overload or server shutdown. The schedule is not a guarantee of execution at an exact second.
- The output file is hard to find: for Screenshot URL, inspect the run’s Key-Value Store for the image and its dataset for the screenshot link and page metadata.

If you need a screenshot on demand rather than a recurring Apify schedule, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe:

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
