The exact volume rule and menu labels can change with app updates, so use the choices displayed on your device rather than assuming a particular volume formula.

What an NSE stock alert does
An NSE stock alert watches a market field for a symbol you select and notifies you after the condition you configured is met. A price alert can tell you that the latest traded price (LTP) reached a level. A volume alert can tell you that the app’s configured volume condition was satisfied. The alert is informational: it does not place an order, reserve shares, or guarantee that you can buy or sell at the alerted price.
The official NSEIndia app describes four personalised alert fields:

- Day Change: the stock’s change for the trading day.
- Day Change %: the percentage change for the trading day.
- Volume: a volume condition selected through the app interface.
The public feature description does not specify whether the Volume field accepts only an absolute share count, a relative-volume multiple, a time-window comparison, or several alternatives. Do not infer a formula from another service; read the current choices shown when you create the alert.

Set an alert in the official NSEIndia app
Prepare the app and your phone
- Install or update the NSEIndia app from the official app store.
- Open it and sign in if the current version requests authentication.
- Allow notification permission when your phone asks. If you deny it initially, enable notifications later in the phone’s app settings; otherwise a triggered alert may be recorded in the app without a visible device notification.
- Know the exact NSE symbol. Similar company names can produce multiple search results, so verify the quote page before saving an alert.
Find the individual stock
You can reach a stock through any of the routes documented by NSE:

- Add the symbol to a Watchlist, then open it from that list.
- Open the stock’s Get Quote or detailed quote page directly.
- Use the alert entry from the app’s Main Menu.
The quote page is useful for checking that you have the intended listing, reviewing price movement, and then opening the alert control without leaving the stock context.
Create a price or volume alert
- From the stock’s quote/details page, open the stock-alert control. If you are using the Main Menu, choose the option that lets you create a new stock alert and then select the symbol.
- Choose LTP when your rule is based on a price level. Choose Volume when your rule is based on traded volume. The app may also present Day Change and Day Change % as alert fields.
- Enter the threshold, direction, or other condition shown in the current interface. For example, if the screen offers an above/below choice for LTP, select the direction that matches your plan. Do not substitute a volume multiple or time period unless the app explicitly offers it.
- Review the symbol, field, condition, and value. A typo in the symbol or threshold can create a valid alert for the wrong security.
- Tap Save, Set Alert, or the equivalent confirmation control displayed by your version.
- Open Active Alerts and confirm that the new rule appears. This is the practical check that the alert was saved rather than merely drafted.
Check a triggered alert
When the configured criteria are met, the app says it sends a notification. Open Triggered Alerts to review the event inside the app. If you see the event there but did not receive a banner or sound, check phone-level notification permission, Focus or Do Not Disturb settings, battery-optimization restrictions, and mobile-data access for the app. The available documentation does not provide a guaranteed delivery time or alert-success rate, so treat a notification as a prompt to inspect the live quote rather than as an execution signal.
Choosing the right field for your rule
LTP for a price level
Use LTP when the question is, “Has this stock reached a particular price?” Enter the level and any direction offered by the app. If you need separate notifications for an upward and downward move, create two distinct alerts when the interface permits it and give each a clear name or note if naming is supported.

An LTP notification tells you that the condition was observed; it does not lock in that price. NSE prices can continue moving before you open the alert, and the app’s documentation does not promise a particular latency.

These fields are appropriate when the trigger is the stock’s change during the trading day rather than an absolute price. Use Day Change for a rupee-denominated move if that is how the app presents the field, and Day Change % for a percentage move. Confirm whether the current screen asks for a positive or negative value and whether it offers an above or below operator before saving.
Volume for unusual trading activity
Choose Volume when you want the app to watch trading activity for one symbol. Because the public NSE description does not define the field’s calculation, inspect every option the current app presents: it may ask for a quantity, a comparison, or another condition. Record the rule you selected so you know what the notification means.
Do not describe a Volume alert as a “volume spike” with a specific multiplier unless the app itself states that multiplier. A raw share count, a relative comparison with prior activity, and a time-window measure are different signals. If you need a precise relative-volume formula and the NSEIndia app does not offer one, use a service whose documentation states the formula and interval.
Manage, revise, and remove alerts
Use Active Alerts as your working list. Open an alert to check its symbol and condition before an important trading session. If the app provides edit and delete controls, change or remove the rule there rather than creating multiple overlapping alerts. After a trigger, use Triggered Alerts to distinguish a condition that has already fired from one that is still waiting.

Keep the list maintainable:
- Delete a price rule after a one-time event if you no longer want repeat notifications.
- Review alerts after a corporate action or symbol change; the original threshold may no longer represent your intended level.
- Check that an alert remains active after an app update or a sign-in change.
- Keep only rules you can act on. A long list of low-priority alerts makes it easier to miss an important notification.
The public app material confirms the separate Active Alerts and Triggered Alerts views, but it does not publish a universal limit on the number of alerts or a retention period for triggered events. Those details can vary by app version.
Use a broker app when you want alerts beside your holdings
Your broker may provide a stock-alert function inside the trading app. The exact menu is broker-specific, so do not assume that the NSEIndia path will appear in another app. One documented example is the ICICI Direct all-in-one app:
- For a stock you hold, open Portfolio.
- Select the stock.
- Choose Set Alert.
- Enter the requested details and submit.
For a stock you do not hold, the documented route is:
- Open Account.
- Choose Settings.
- Open Direct Alerts.
- Select Set Alerts, fill in the details, and submit.
These paths are an example, not a universal broker standard. Consult your broker’s current help page for its supported fields, notification channels, alert limits, and whether alerts apply to NSE equities only or to other instruments as well. When a third-party service is better for advanced conditions

This can be useful when your rule combines price with a technical indicator, requires delivery data, or needs an event-based notification. Its documented alert workflow is described in Trendlyne’s alert help article. Check the service’s current plan, data definitions, and notification settings before relying on a specific condition. A richer condition set does not remove the need to verify the live quote and the underlying event.

Choose the route by the condition you actually need. The official app is the simplest starting point for one NSE symbol and a basic field. A broker route may be convenient when you already monitor holdings there. A specialist service is appropriate when the required condition is not offered by the official app.
Make notifications reliable on your device
Android and iPhone checks
Notification delivery depends on both the app and the operating system. After saving an alert, verify the following:
- The NSEIndia app or broker app has notification permission.
- Alerts are not blocked by Focus, Do Not Disturb, or a notification category switch.
- Battery-saver settings are not suspending background activity.
- The app can use mobile data when Wi-Fi is unavailable.
- You are signed in to the account that owns the alert.
- The phone’s date and time are set automatically.
Use the in-app Triggered Alerts list as your diagnostic reference. If a condition appears there, the rule fired even if the operating system suppressed the banner. If no event appears, re-check the symbol, field, operator, threshold, market status, and whether the alert is still listed under Active Alerts.
Why an alert may appear late or not at all
A notification can be absent because the rule was never saved, the wrong symbol was selected, permission was disabled, the condition was not met, or the app had no usable connection. The authoritative descriptions reviewed for these services do not publish a delivery-latency guarantee, uptime commitment, or independently verified success rate. Do not treat the absence of a notification as proof that a price or volume condition never occurred; inspect the quote and the app’s alert history.
Do not confuse market alerts with transaction messages
SEBI’s investor guidance covers free SMS and email messages about trading or transaction activity in a trading and demat account. To receive those messages, investors must keep their mobile numbers and email addresses updated with their stock brokers and depository participants. These are account-activity notices, not user-defined price or volume triggers. Read the SEBI investor guidance for the account-alert process.
NSE’s trade-verification guidance similarly describes end-of-day transaction details sent to registered contact information and asks investors to keep those details current. It helps you verify activity in your account; it does not let you define an LTP or volume threshold. See NSE’s trade-verification page.
NSE Clearing’s SMS subscription page is aimed at members and lists operational messages such as margins, collateral, and risk events. It should not be presented as an individual-stock price or volume-alert service. The scope is described at NSE Clearing’s SMS-alert page.
Use alerts as prompts, not automatic trading instructions
An alert is most useful when it is tied to a written decision rule. Before enabling it, define what you will check after notification: the live quote, spread, market context, news, liquidity, and your own risk limit. A price crossing can reverse quickly; a high-volume event can reflect either buying or selling and does not by itself establish direction. A delivery or corporate-action alert likewise tells you that a documented condition occurred, not that a trade is suitable.
Never assume that an alert places an order or guarantees execution at the trigger level. If you decide to trade, review the order details in your broker’s order screen and submit it separately. Keep account credentials, registered contact details, and notification permissions current so that both transaction messages and market-condition alerts reach the intended device.
