To set an NSE or BSE price alert, open the exact stock listing in your broker app, verify the exchange, choose Set alert, Add Alert or the alarm icon, select the condition and threshold, then save it. Finally, check your phone’s notification permission and the broker’s in-app notification settings. An alert normally sends a message; it does not automatically place a buy or sell order.
The menu names, condition types, alert limits, expiry rules and delivery channels vary by broker. The procedures below cover the documented workflows for Zerodha Kite and Angel One, explain what is and is not established for Groww, and show how to avoid attaching an alert to the wrong NSE or BSE listing.

What an NSE or BSE price alert does
A price alert watches a condition on one specific market instrument and notifies you when that condition is met. The instrument is identified by its stock, exchange listing and usually its trading symbol. A company traded on both the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange can therefore have two separate listings. An alert created for the NSE listing does not automatically monitor the BSE listing, and vice versa.

A percentage condition might notify you after a specified percentage change from the broker’s reference value. The app should display the property, comparison direction and value before you confirm.

An alert is a notification instruction, not necessarily an order instruction. You still have to open the order ticket and submit a trade unless your broker separately offers an order-trigger feature. Read the confirmation screen carefully so that you know whether you are creating a message-only alert or an instruction that can submit an order under additional rules.
Set up an alert on almost any trading app
- Find the instrument. Search for the company and open its quote, stock-details page or watchlist entry. Do not set the alert from a similarly named fund, derivative, or another market segment.
- Confirm the exchange. Look for the NSE or BSE tag, exchange selector or listing details. If both exchanges are offered, select the one whose price you intend to monitor.
- Open the alert control. Common labels are Set alert, Add Alert, Create Alert or an alarm-bell icon. On some apps the control is in an overflow menu rather than beside the price.
- Choose the condition. Select price, percentage change, volume or another available property. If the app offers a direction, choose above, below, crosses above, crosses below or the equivalent wording.
- Enter the threshold. Type the value using the unit shown by the app. Check whether a percentage is positive or negative and whether the price is quoted in rupees.
- Name and save it. A short name helps you identify the alert later. Use the final button such as Create, Save or a swipe confirmation.
- Verify delivery. Open the broker’s Alerts area and confirm that the alert is active. Enable the broker’s push notifications in the phone operating-system settings and in the broker’s own notification settings.
Keep the quote page open long enough to confirm the listing and condition. A delayed quote, an incorrect exchange tab or a stale watchlist entry can lead to an alert that appears correctly configured but monitors something other than your intended instrument.
Zerodha Kite: documented mobile and web procedures
Creating an alert in the Kite mobile app
- Tap the instrument in your watchlist or search results.
- Tap Set alert.
- Enter an alert name.
- Choose the property and enter its value. Kite documents real-time alert conditions for OHLC, percentage change, price, quantity, open interest, volume and other data points.
- Swipe on Create to save the alert.
Zerodha says a triggered alert produces a notification on Kite web or the app and an email. The exact email address and device delivery still depend on your account and notification settings, so check both if a message does not arrive.

Creating an alert on Kite web
- Open the instrument.
- Choose More on that instrument.
- Select Create Alert.
- Name the alert, set the property and enter the value.
- Create the alert and then review it in the alerts area.
Kite limits and validity
Zerodha’s 2026 documentation states that Kite allows a maximum of 500 alerts and 200 Alert Trigger Orders. The two figures describe different features: a normal alert sends a notification, while an Alert Trigger Order is an order-related facility with its own execution behavior. Do not assume that creating one creates the other.
Kite states that alerts remain valid for 365 days. They are automatically disabled after that period unless they have been triggered or you manually disable them sooner. If a long-term target matters, record the expiry date and recreate the alert when necessary.

Angel One: mobile and web price or volume alerts
Creating an alert in the Angel One mobile app
- Select the stock and open Stock details.
- Tap the alarm icon.
- Choose Price or Volume.
- Configure the parameters and conditions. The manual documents both an absolute value and a percentage change; an absolute condition can be a price above or below a rupee threshold.
- Press Create Alert.
To view or modify mobile alerts, open the home page, tap the bell icon and go to Alerts. Angel One’s support material explicitly describes price and volume alerts on its mobile app.
Creating an alert on Angel One web
- In the watchlist, hover over the stock.
- Open the overflow menu and choose Add Alert.
- Select Price Action or Technical Indicators.
- Configure the conditions and create the alert.
- Manage saved alerts under Orders > Alerts.
Angel One limits and exchange selection
Angel One’s 2026 user manual documents a maximum of 25 active alerts. The limit applies to active alerts, so review and remove obsolete conditions before adding new ones.
The watchlist provides NSE and BSE exchange filters. Use the filter and inspect the exchange label on the stock before opening the alarm control. If the same company appears twice, treat each row as a separate listing and configure the alert on the intended row.
Groww: notification controls are documented, custom thresholds are not confirmed here
A Groww product update dated 5 August 2025 documents notification management rather than a complete workflow for custom NSE or BSE price thresholds. From the home page, tap the profile icon, open Settings, select Manage notifications, and customize categories such as Stocks, Mutual Funds and F&O. Groww says changes may take up to 24 hours to reflect.
Those controls determine which categories can notify you; they are not evidence by themselves that a custom price alert exists. If you use Groww, first search the current stock-details or watchlist interface for an alert or alarm option and read the confirmation screen. If no threshold control is present, do not treat a category toggle as a price trigger. The feature set and labels can change, so verify the current app before relying on it for a target price.

Limits and menus are broker-specific and can be revised. Use the current in-app help or confirmation screen if it conflicts with the figures above.

Use the exchange shown on the quote row
Do not infer the exchange from the company name alone. Search results may show two rows, separate tabs or an exchange selector. The last traded price can differ between exchanges because trading activity and available orders differ. Select the row that matches the market you watch and, if you later place an order, use the same exchange deliberately.
Check the instrument type as well as the exchange
A stock, an index, a futures contract and an option can have similar names but different prices and expiry rules. Set the alert from the cash-equity listing when you want the company’s share price. If the app displays a contract month, strike or expiry, you are looking at a derivative rather than the ordinary stock listing.
Use a separate alert when both exchanges matter
If you need to know when either listing reaches a target, create one alert on the NSE instrument and another on the BSE instrument, provided your broker permits both. Give them distinct names such as “Company — NSE — above target” and “Company — BSE — above target.” This prevents one exchange’s trigger from being mistaken for the other.
Price, percentage and volume conditions
Absolute price
An absolute-price alert is the clearest choice when your decision depends on a rupee level. Select the comparison direction and enter the target exactly as displayed by the broker. Check whether the app offers “crosses” rather than a continuous “is above” condition; those phrases can produce different behavior after the first trigger.

Percentage change
Percentage conditions are useful when the target is relative rather than tied to one rupee amount. Confirm the reference period or value shown by the app, and check the sign of the percentage. A positive and negative threshold are not interchangeable. If the app provides no reference explanation, use an absolute price or consult its help text instead of guessing.
Volume and other data points
Volume alerts can signal unusual activity without requiring a price target. Zerodha also documents OHLC, quantity and open-interest conditions, while Angel One’s mobile workflow documents price and volume and its web workflow includes technical indicators. Only choose a condition you can interpret; an alert that fires on a technical value is not automatically a trading signal.

- Phone permission is blocked. In the operating-system settings, open the broker app’s notifications and allow alerts, banners or sounds as appropriate for your device.
- In-app categories are disabled. Review the broker’s notification or alert settings. On Groww, category changes can take up to 24 hours to reflect.
- The alert is inactive or expired. Open the Alerts area and check its status. Kite alerts have a 365-day validity period and are disabled automatically afterward unless triggered or manually disabled.
- The wrong listing was selected. Reopen the alert details and verify the NSE or BSE label, symbol and instrument type.
- The condition was not reached. Compare the live value with the exact property and direction saved. A “below” condition will not fire when the price rises above the same number.
- You reached the broker’s limit. Kite documents 500 alerts; Angel One documents 25 active alerts. Delete stale entries or wait for an existing alert to be triggered where the broker’s rules allow it.
- Email delivery is filtered. For Kite, check the email address associated with the account and its spam or promotions folders in addition to app notifications.
When troubleshooting, change one variable at a time: first verify the instrument and status, then the condition, then phone and in-app permissions. Avoid creating many duplicate alerts before you know which setting failed.
Alert versus order-trigger feature
A notification alert tells you that a condition was met so you can decide what to do. An order-trigger feature can submit or stage an order according to separate product rules, order types, funds, market hours and risk controls. Zerodha’s documentation illustrates the distinction by listing 500 ordinary alerts and 200 Alert Trigger Orders as separate capacities.
Before enabling any order-related option, read the broker’s execution terms and confirm the exchange, quantity, product type, validity and price protection. If your objective is only to receive a reminder, choose the ordinary alert path and do not authorize an order trigger.
Managing alerts after creation
Review the active list
Open the broker’s Alerts area after saving. Check each entry’s name, listing, property, direction, threshold and status. This audit is especially important after editing a watchlist or switching between mobile and web, because the same company may appear in more than one exchange row.
Retire targets that no longer apply
Delete or disable alerts tied to an old trade plan. Keeping obsolete conditions consumes an alert allowance on brokers with active limits and makes a genuine notification harder to recognize.
Record expiry dates
If the broker gives alerts a fixed validity period, add a calendar reminder. Kite’s stated 365-day period is long enough to be forgotten, particularly for investment targets rather than short-term trades. A reminder to review the level is safer than assuming the alert remains active indefinitely.
A practical checklist before you rely on an alert
- The company name and symbol match the intended security.
- The row or selector explicitly says NSE or BSE as intended.
- The instrument is cash equity rather than a derivative or index.
- The condition, direction and rupee or percentage value are correct.
- The alert appears as active in the broker’s Alerts area.
- Phone notification permission and broker notification categories are enabled.
- You know whether the broker will also send email and where to find it.
- You have checked the broker’s alert limit and any expiry date.
- You understand that the alert will not place an order unless you separately configure an order-trigger product.
Use this checklist for both exchanges when you need coverage of NSE and BSE. Exchange selection is the step most likely to be overlooked because the company name can look identical in both listings.
