Open the exchange’s Alerts or bell control, choose a coin or trading pair, define the trigger and threshold, select how often it may fire, and enable push, browser, email, or desktop notifications. A price or volatility alert only sends a notice; it does not submit a buy or sell order. Coinbase states this explicitly: “Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset.”
The exact choices differ by platform. Binance documents percentage and 24-hour-change conditions plus limits of 10 alerts per trading pair, 50 alerts in total, and 90-day validity. Kraken Pro provides a native volatility-alert option for outsized moves, while TradingView can monitor symbols from multiple exchanges and add channel-boundary logic. The procedures below show the current workflows and the settings that matter.

What a crypto alert can and cannot do
An alert is a conditional notification. The service watches a market data feed and sends a message when the condition you saved is met. Depending on the platform, the condition can be an absolute price, a percentage move, a 24-hour change, or a volatility-style event.
- Price alert: fires when price reaches, rises above, or falls below a value such as $60,000.
- Percentage alert: fires after a move such as 5% up or 5% down.
- 24-hour alert: evaluates the instrument’s displayed 24-hour change.
- Volatility or channel alert: fires when price breaks a defined band or when the service detects an outsized move.
The notification is separate from order execution. If you want to trade after an alert, open the exchange, review liquidity and spread, and place the order yourself or use a separately configured automation product. Do not assume that tapping an alert creates a stop-loss, limit order, or recurring purchase.

Choose the right trigger before creating an alert
Absolute price
Use an absolute level when a specific support, resistance, liquidation-risk, or take-profit area matters. For example, an alert at $60,000 can tell you that Bitcoin has entered a zone you want to examine. Because a market can move through a level quickly, select a repeat frequency when you need to know about every subsequent crossing rather than only the first touch.
Percentage move
A percentage condition scales with the asset’s current price. It is useful when you want to know that a coin moved 5% regardless of whether it started at $100 or $60,000. Binance exposes “change over” and “change under” conditions; other services may require a charting platform or a manually calculated price level.
24-hour change
A 24-hour trigger measures the change shown for the selected market over the exchange’s rolling 24-hour window. It is not the same as a move since midnight in your local time. Record the pair and quote currency when saving the alert, because BTC/USDT and BTC/USD can show slightly different prices and percentage changes.

Volatility and channel boundaries
Volatility alerts are intended to identify unusually large movement rather than one fixed price. Kraken Pro documents volatility alerts for “outsized price movements.” TradingView can approximate the same idea with an upper and lower channel: create alerts when price crosses either boundary, then choose whether the condition should be checked continuously or at bar close.
Set alerts on Coinbase
Coinbase’s mobile workflow is watchlist-centered and is the simplest choice when you want a small set of assets tracked from a phone.

- Open the Coinbase mobile app and search for a stock or cryptocurrency.
- Open the asset’s page and tap the star to add it to a watchlist. Mobile price alerts require watchlist membership.
- Tap the bell-plus icon, choose Add Alert, and select whether the trigger is Above or Below.
- Enter the target price. Check the displayed quote currency and asset before saving.
- Tap Save.
- Open Notification Settings to enable predetermined alerts, custom alerts, or both. Choose push, in-app, and/or email delivery.
Coinbase’s alert is a notification only. It will not place an order when the target is reached. If you remove an asset from the watchlist, review its alert configuration afterward because the mobile setup depends on that watchlist relationship.
Set price, percentage, and 24-hour alerts on Binance
Binance documents the broadest set of native trigger types in this group, including percentage and 24-hour conditions. The feature is documented as available in the Binance Pro app experience.

- Open Markets and search for the trading pair, such as BTC/USDT.
- Tap the Alert icon.
- Choose the alert type: Price reaches, Rises above, Drops to, Change over, Change under, or a 24-hour change threshold.
- Enter the target value. For a percentage condition, enter the percentage rather than a price.
- Set the frequency, then tap Create Alert.
Desktop website
- Open the Alerts icon.
- Choose Create Alert.
- Select the market and trading pair.
- Select the condition and frequency, enter the threshold, and save.
Binance’s documented limits are important when planning a large watchlist: a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair, 50 alerts total, and 90-day validity. A 90-day alert is not open-ended; recreate it before expiration if you still need it. When you reach the total limit, delete obsolete alerts rather than creating duplicate conditions for the same pair.
Set repeating or one-time alerts on Crypto.com Exchange
Crypto.com Exchange offers two straightforward frequencies—once only or repeat—but requires browser and system notification permissions for delivery.
Web
- Sign in and open Trade.
- Click the bell icon and choose Enable Now.
- Select the instrument.
- Choose Price rises above or Price drops below.
- Enter the target price.
- Choose Once only or Repeat, then save.
- When prompted, allow browser notifications and confirm that system notifications are enabled for the browser.
Mobile app
- Open Market and tap the bell, or open Trade, tap the three-dot menu, and choose Price Alerts.
- Select the instrument, direction, target, and frequency.
- Save and allow notification permission when requested.
The Help Center notes that price alerts may not be available in certain jurisdictions. If the bell or Price Alerts entry is missing, check regional availability and account settings rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.

Use Kraken and Kraken Pro volatility alerts
Kraken’s Alerts widget supports price alerts on both web and mobile. Kraken Pro also documents volatility alerts designed to inform traders about outsized price movements in markets they select.
Price alerts
- Open the Alerts widget on the web interface or in the mobile app.
- Select the asset or trading pair.
- Choose the price condition and enter the threshold.
- Select the delivery interface: web, mobile, or both, where the interface presents that choice.
- Save the alert and verify that notifications are allowed at the operating-system level.
Volatility alerts
- Open Kraken Pro and locate the volatility-alert control in the alerts area.
- Select the markets you care about.
- Choose the available volatility condition and notification destinations.
- Save, then check that the alert appears in your active-alert list.
Kraken’s documentation describes the purpose of this feature but does not state a universal percentage threshold or a single alert-count limit. Treat the exact controls shown in your account as authoritative, because availability and interface details can vary by product and region.
Monitor several exchanges with TradingView
TradingView is useful when you need one alert workspace for symbols from different exchanges or want chart-based logic. The symbol still represents a specific exchange feed, so select the exchange-qualified ticker rather than assuming every BTC/USD chart is identical.
Create a price alert
- Open the chart for the symbol and exchange feed you want to monitor.
- Open the alert dialog from the alert control.
- Set the primary condition to Price; TradingView requires Price as the primary condition for this type of alert.
- Choose an operator such as crossing, greater than, or less than, then enter the value.
- Select a trigger frequency: Once, Every time, Once per bar close, or Once per minute.
- Set an expiration date or choose an open-ended setting when available on your account.
- Select notification channels in the dialog and create the alert.
Create a volatility-style channel alert
- Add a channel or other upper and lower boundary to the chart.
- Open an alert on the relevant boundary and use a crossing condition.
- Repeat for the opposite boundary if you want both upside and downside notifications.
- Choose whether intrabar touches should trigger immediately or whether confirmation at bar close is preferable.
- Set the expiration and delivery channels, then save.
A continuously checked alert can fire on a temporary wick; a bar-close alert waits for confirmation and may arrive later. A one-minute frequency can generate many notices in a fast market, so pair it with a repeat policy that matches your tolerance for noise.

- Platform setting: confirm the alert is listed as active and that push, email, browser, or desktop delivery is selected.
- Operating-system permission: allow notifications for the exchange app or browser in Android, iOS, Windows, or macOS settings.
- Focus and battery controls: disable Do Not Disturb, notification summaries, aggressive battery optimization, and background restrictions for the app when timely delivery matters.
For browser alerts, keep the correct browser profile signed in and permit notifications for the exchange domain. Email alerts can be delayed by spam filtering, so add the platform’s sender to trusted contacts and do not rely on email alone for a rapidly moving market.

The wrong market was selected
BTC/USDT, BTC/USD, and a perpetual contract are different instruments. Their prices, spreads, and 24-hour calculations can diverge. Reopen the alert and verify the exact symbol, quote currency, and market type.
The condition was interpreted differently
“Crossing” usually means price moved from one side of a level to the other; “greater than” can behave differently if the price was already above the threshold when the alert was created. For percentage and 24-hour triggers, confirm whether the platform expects a positive or negative number and whether the field represents a change over or under condition.
The frequency suppressed repeats
A once-only alert becomes inactive after firing. A once-per-bar-close alert can wait for candle confirmation, while an every-time setting may fire repeatedly. Open the active-alert list after a notification to see whether it remains enabled.

Crypto.com Exchange warns that alerts may be restricted by jurisdiction. Binance documents its feature for the Pro experience. Product, regional, and account differences can remove controls even when a help page describes them. Use the controls visible in your signed-in account as the final authority.
The threshold was already crossed
Some systems trigger only on a new crossing, not simply because the current price is already beyond the value. Set the threshold on the other side of the current market or wait for a fresh crossing, then test with a level close enough to observe safely.
Build a practical alert plan
Separate decision levels from noise levels
Reserve price alerts for levels that change what you will do: investigate a breakout, review collateral, or reassess a position. Use volatility or percentage alerts for awareness. If every small fluctuation creates a message, important notices become easy to ignore.
Use paired upside and downside conditions
For a range, create one alert above resistance and one below support. On TradingView, paired channel boundaries can represent the same plan. On exchanges that limit alert counts, prioritize the pairs and levels that matter most and remove expired ideas.
Write the intended action outside the alert
An alert contains a condition, not a trading plan. Record what you will check when it fires: order-book depth, funding, news, portfolio exposure, or a stop level. This reduces the temptation to trade solely because a notification appeared.
Review expiration dates
Binance alerts expire after 90 days under its documented policy. TradingView lets you set an expiration or, where available, leave an alert open-ended. Add a calendar reminder for alerts tied to a temporary thesis so stale thresholds do not remain active indefinitely.
Safety and privacy checks
- Use an authenticator-based two-factor method and a unique password for every exchange.
- Never give an alert service your withdrawal password, seed phrase, or one-time authentication code.
- Review notification previews on a locked phone; a push message can reveal holdings or trading pairs.
- When using a third-party charting dashboard, verify which exchange account, if any, is connected. Price monitoring does not require trading permissions.
- Test an alert with a non-sensitive market or a distant threshold before relying on it for a time-critical decision.
A quick setup checklist
- Choose the exact exchange feed, market type, pair, and quote currency.
- Decide whether the event is an absolute price, percentage move, 24-hour change, or volatility boundary.
- Set the direction and threshold, checking the sign for percentage conditions.
- Choose once-only or repeating behavior and note any expiration.
- Save the alert and confirm it appears in the active list.
- Enable the platform channel and the device or browser permission.
- Document what you will evaluate when the message arrives.
- Periodically delete stale alerts and review limits.
