For a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream, start with 720p at 30 fps, H.264, and 8 Mbps video bitrate if your connection can sustain it. YouTube lists 8 Mbps as its recommended H.264 ingestion rate for 720p30; 3 Mbps is the listed minimum, not the recommendation. Choose 1080p30 at 14 Mbps when you want more visual detail and have enough steady upload capacity. Use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 128 kbps stereo audio, then test the complete stream before going live.
Choose 720p or 1080p based on stable upload capacity
Lofi visuals are often relatively still, so 30 fps is a practical starting point rather than a YouTube rule for this genre. The choice between 720p and 1080p should reflect how much visual detail matters and what your internet connection can sustain continuously. YouTube transcodes incoming streams for viewers, so your ingest resolution does not guarantee that every viewer receives that exact resolution.

| Ingest setting | H.264 minimum video bitrate | H.264 recommended video bitrate | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | Choose this as a lower-bandwidth starting point for a mostly static lofi visual, provided the connection can sustain the chosen rate. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | Choose this for more visual detail when your upload connection can reliably sustain the higher rate. |
| 720p at 60 fps | not stated in the cited 30-fps figures; see YouTube’s current bitrate table | 8 Mbps | Consider only if the visual content benefits from smoother motion; 30 fps is a sensible default for static artwork. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | not stated in the cited 30-fps figures; see YouTube’s current bitrate table | 17 Mbps | Requires greater upload capacity than 1080p30; use it only if smoother motion is useful and the connection can sustain it. |
The 30-fps minimum and recommended rates come from YouTube’s H.264 live encoder guidance, accessed in 2026. The 60-fps recommendations are also from YouTube’s guidance; the cited 30-fps minimum figures should not be applied to 60 fps. Bitrate recommendations vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate, so check YouTube’s current table if choosing another combination.
Set the encoder and YouTube stream options
- Choose a supported ingest protocol and video codec. YouTube lists RTMP or RTMPS as ingest protocols and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 as supported video codecs. The bitrate table above is specifically for H.264, so use its values when encoding H.264.
- Set video bitrate control to CBR. Constant bitrate helps keep the outgoing stream aligned with the target rate. Configure video bitrate separately from audio bitrate.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds.
- Set stereo audio deliberately. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs and recommends 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps for stereo audio.
- Decide whether resolution is automatic or manual. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you need to force a resolution, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings in Stream Resolution.
Use YouTube’s official live encoder settings and bitrate guidance to verify the current options for your chosen codec and frame rate.

Check whether your connection can carry the stream all day
Run an upload speed test and compare the available upload bandwidth with the stream’s total bitrate, including audio. YouTube says the total stream bitrate should not exceed available upload bandwidth. A speed test’s peak is not necessarily a rate your connection will hold steadily for a continuous broadcast, so leave practical headroom rather than targeting the measured maximum. That headroom is a reliability precaution, not a YouTube-published threshold.
- If upload capacity is variable, use 720p30 rather than pushing for 1080p30.
- If the stream has health warnings or interruptions, reduce the video bitrate or resolution and test again.
- Do not assume that a nominally sufficient speed test guarantees a stable 24/7 connection; monitor stream health during the broadcast.
Test before starting the continuous broadcast
- Set the encoder to the intended resolution, frame rate, video bitrate, audio settings, and keyframe interval.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast using the actual music and visual movement you plan to stream. YouTube specifically advises testing before going live.
- Check the stream preview and YouTube stream-health indicators. Listen for audio problems and look for warnings or instability.
- If the test is unhealthy, lower the bitrate or resolution, confirm the total bitrate remains within available upload capacity, and repeat the test.
- Once live, continue checking stream health rather than assuming that a successful initial connection guarantees uninterrupted operation.
Plan for YouTube’s archive and DVR limits
Resolution and bitrate do not change YouTube’s duration caveats. A live stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for broadcasts longer than 12 hours. If you need a copy of the full broadcast, keep a local recording as a backup, as YouTube recommends. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance and YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Respect music rights and YouTube live-stream rules
Use music and visuals you have the rights to broadcast. A 24/7 format does not make copyrighted music safe to use, and an encoder configuration cannot prevent rights claims or live-stream restrictions. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance and the terms that apply to the music and artwork before scheduling a continuous stream. Do not assume that permission to listen to a track or use it in a personal video includes permission to broadcast it continuously.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOr let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer, OBS setup, or home internet connection to remain on, StreamNeo runs an uploaded video or playlist as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud. The setup is: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera.
