Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a 24/7 mantra stream, prepare the recordings so their perceived loudness is consistent across the playlist, control peaks below digital clipping, and test the complete signal path before leaving the stream running. YouTube’s published live encoder recommendations do not specify a creator-side LUFS target. An AES online-audio reference of -16 LUFS can be a starting point for music, but it is not a YouTube Live requirement.
What “audio normalization” should mean for a mantra stream
Normalization is not one setting that guarantees a consistent stream. For prerecorded material, the practical job is to match the relative loudness of the recordings and sections in the playlist, preserve intentional changes in intensity, and keep peaks from clipping. Measure integrated loudness across complete recordings or representative sections, then listen to transitions as well as individual files.

Keep two checks distinct: integrated loudness helps describe the overall level of a program, while peak level helps identify whether the signal may exceed digital full scale. A peak meter alone cannot tell you the integrated LUFS of a recording.
Is there a YouTube Live LUFS target?
No LUFS target is specified in YouTube Help’s published live encoder recommendations. That guidance covers transport and encoder settings and recommends testing with representative audio; it does not prescribe the loudness at which a creator must prepare a live program. In particular, -14 LUFS should not be described as a mandatory YouTube Live target.

For general context, the Audio Engineering Society’s 2021 TD1008 v3.13 recommends music averaging -16 LUFS when music and speech are normalized separately, and gives -16 LUFS as an integrated-loudness example for pop music distribution. This is an online-audio reference, not a rule for YouTube Live or devotional mantra. A mantra’s dynamics and listening context may differ, so treat that figure as an optional starting point and judge the material by measurement and listening.
Why a single number is not the whole answer
A file can meet a chosen integrated-loudness target and still have distracting peaks, abrupt playlist transitions, or dynamics that feel wrong for its intended use. Conversely, lowering peaks does not make quiet and loud recordings equally loud. Set relative file levels and peak safety separately.

Prepare the recordings and match playlist levels
- Assemble the intended playlist or loop. Include the actual recordings, edits, and sequence planned for the broadcast.
- Measure complete recordings or representative full sections. Use a loudness meter that reports integrated loudness using a recognized loudness method. An OBS peak bar or its black VU-style indicator is not an integrated LUFS display.
- Compare recordings and adjust clip or file gain. If levels differ substantially, bring them into a comfortable, consistent range before streaming. Do not force every section to the same number if that would remove intentional quiet-to-loud movement.
- Listen across the joins. Check playlist boundaries, quiet passages, and changes in recording or room tone. Correct abrupt level jumps that measurement of isolated files may not reveal.
- Re-measure and audition the adjusted playlist. Listen to both the quietest and loudest material at a realistic monitoring level before committing to a long broadcast.
The AES reference of -16 LUFS may help you document a repeatable channel workflow, but it is not a pass/fail test for a mantra stream. Choose a target only after listening to the material and checking peaks.
Control peaks without flattening the mantra
Keep the signal below 0 dBFS, the digital ceiling; material at or above it can clip. A limiter can catch unexpected peaks, but excessive limiting can audibly compress repetition, breath, room tone, or deliberate changes in intensity. Use enough peak control to prevent overload, then listen for pumping or a flattened sound.

Real-time loudness correction is a different approach from matching files in advance. The AES explains that live processing cannot predict what comes later and may override intended dynamics. Its guidance describes rolling analysis windows commonly between 30 seconds and two minutes as a compromise for active correction—not a universal setting that every stream should use. If you use real-time correction, audition quiet and loud passages and confirm that it does not make the mantra sound unnatural.
Set YouTube audio transport independently
For stereo audio, YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3, a 44.1 kHz sample rate, and 128 kbps. These are transmission settings, not loudness targets. Configure them in the encoder separately from the gain, normalization, and peak-control decisions made for the program.

Test the complete signal chain before going live
- Choose a representative test section. Include the quietest and loudest expected passages and, if possible, a playlist transition. YouTube Help advises that tests include audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
- Listen at the source and at the encoder output. Check the audio before it enters OBS or another encoder, then listen to what the software is actually sending. OBS recommends checking at the source and in OBS; headphones or monitor output can help with listening, but they do not measure LUFS.
- Record and review a test. Listen back for clipping, level jumps, silence, pumping, distracting reverb or tonal balance, and encoding artifacts. Meter activity cannot establish whether the result is comfortable or faithful to the source.
- Monitor the live stream. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health during the event. Watch for playback faults that cause silence as well as audio problems that a meter will not reveal.
Do not rely on YouTube’s Stable volume to fix the mix
YouTube describes Stable volume as a viewer playback feature that balances quiet and loud portions. It is on by default for videos, is unavailable on some videos, and viewers can turn it off. It is not a dependable creator-side mastering control, so prepare a coherent stream signal rather than assuming every viewer will receive the same processing.
YouTube also documents audio enhancements, including automatic volume adjustments and sound balancing, with a setting that can be managed for a channel’s future uploads. That documentation does not establish a fixed LUFS target for live ingestion or show that these controls normalize a 24/7 live input to a chosen loudness.

Common audio normalization problems and fixes
- The meter looks safe, but some recordings sound much louder. A peak meter does not show integrated loudness. Measure the recordings with a loudness meter, adjust relative file gain, and audition the joins.
- The stream distorts on loud syllables or percussion. Check for peaks at or above 0 dBFS in the signal reaching the encoder. Reduce gain or use restrained peak limiting, then record and listen again.
- The level audibly pumps or the mantra loses its natural rise and fall. Ease off real-time correction or limiting and compare quiet and loud passages. Preserve dynamics that are intentional.
- A playlist transition jumps in volume. Compare the adjoining sections and adjust their relative gain; recheck the transition in the actual playback sequence.
- OBS’s meter does not show LUFS. Its documented main meter is a peak program meter, with a black VU-style indicator. Use a separate integrated-loudness meter for LUFS and use OBS’s meter for the checks it supports.
- The mix sounds inconsistent for some viewers. Do not assume Stable volume will be available or enabled for everyone. Check the prepared encoder output and make the source mix consistent on its own.
- The meter moves, but the sound still feels uncomfortable. Listen for tonal balance, reverb, artifacts, and perceived loudness. A meter reading is not a substitute for an audition.
