YouTube can receive a reconnected encoder feed, but it does not promise to restart your playlist at the exact song or timestamp where playback stopped. First check whether the original live event is still active, then reconnect the encoder using that event’s stream URL and key. Whether playback resumes on the last song depends on the player or playlist system you use—not a YouTube “resume last song” setting.
First distinguish the stream feed from the broadcast
Your encoder sends audio and video to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key. The broadcast is the live event viewers watch. YouTube’s API documentation describes these as separate resources: a liveStream carries the feed, while a liveBroadcast represents the event. Reconnecting the feed is not proof that an event YouTube considers completed can be reopened. Google’s explanation of broadcasts and streams discusses a 24/7 scenario but does not promise recovery of a particular playlist position.

That distinction matters for viewers as well as playback. If the original event remains active, restoring its feed may bring the same event back online. If it has ended, you may need a different broadcast; do not assume the original watch page will become live again. YouTube’s documentation does not establish a guaranteed way to reopen a completed event.
Recover the existing stream after a disconnect

Check the event in Live Control Room
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and select the intended event. Check whether it is still active, whether YouTube is receiving the encoder feed, and whether the stream-health panel reports an issue. Confirm the event state before changing settings or creating another event. YouTube’s live stream settings guide describes Live Control Room and the stream configuration controls.

Restore the encoder output
Reconnect or restart the encoder or playback source. Set its destination to the stream URL and stream key associated with the intended event, then start sending the feed. YouTube says the URL is entered as the encoder destination and the key identifies where the encoder sends the stream. A stream key is a credential: YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep it private, and do not reset it unless there is a reason, such as a suspected compromise or a deliberate configuration change.

Verify the feed and event before announcing recovery
Wait for the Live Control Room preview to show the expected picture and audio, and confirm that the event is still live. A reconnected feed alone does not tell you whether your playlist restarted at its previous position. Check the actual output before telling viewers that the stream has resumed.

Check for a copyright or policy interruption
If YouTube reports a third-party content match, warning, or termination, address that issue rather than repeatedly restarting the encoder. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party matches; a placeholder may replace the stream, and unresolved content may lead to temporary interruption or termination. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

What determines whether playback returns to the last song?
The playlist or playback source controls its playback state when it stops and starts. Depending on that system, a restart might begin the current file from the beginning, continue from a saved position, or move to another item. YouTube’s stream settings documentation covers the incoming feed and event controls, not a guaranteed music-playlist resume point. Test your exact encoder and playlist arrangement before relying on it unattended.

YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings can affect how a stream is started and stopped in eligible setups. They are not an encoder watchdog, and they do not promise to restore a saved song position. DVR is also different: it lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue playback during a live stream; it does not restart the operator’s playlist after an encoder failure. Check the settings and their availability for your event in YouTube’s live stream settings documentation.
Choose the right recovery path

Use the original event when it is still active and keeping the same viewer link matters. A different event may be necessary if the original has ended. In either case, verify that the encoder is sending to the intended URL and key, and investigate a policy warning before treating the problem as a simple connection drop.

Prevent avoidable interruptions in Indian music streams
“Indian music” does not establish that you own or have permission to stream every recording, composition, performance, or visual asset in a playlist. Verify the rights for the exact material and relevant territories before going live. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream; see its guidance for music channels going live.

- Keep the stream URL and key private; use the credentials configured for the event you intend to run.
- Test recovery with the same encoder and playlist source you plan to leave running, and observe whether it returns to the same file and position.
- When a drop occurs, check both stream health and policy notices before changing the playlist or creating another event.
