The studio’s main development focus is The Elder Scrolls VI. In the meantime, Bethesda has confirmed several other Fallout projects, including undated remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, a new project with Obsidian, and a major Fallout 76 expansion planned for 2027.
What Bethesda has confirmed about Fallout 5
Bethesda Game Studios described Fallout 5 as a “long-range destination” and said the game is “currently in preproduction.” The studio also said The Elder Scrolls VI is its primary development focus, with most of its team working on that game. Bethesda has not announced a release date or release window for Fallout 5. Preproduction is the stated development stage; it does not establish when the game will launch. Which Fallout game to try after the show
Bethesda’s official guide connects the television series’ settings with three games: Fallout: New Vegas for the Mojave, Fallout 4 for the Commonwealth, and Fallout 76 for Appalachia. For a more direct activity link to the show, Bethesda points to Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, which includes Wasteland Workshop and its settlement features for capturing and taming creatures. What Bethesda’s update does—and does not—tell us
The clearest takeaway is that Fallout is an active franchise with projects at different stages, not that Fallout 5 is close to release. Bethesda’s announcement supplies a development stage for that game, confirms two remasters and an Obsidian collaboration, and gives Fallout 76’s Raven Rock expansion a 2027 plan. It does not provide dates for Fallout 5, the remasters, the Obsidian project, or either television project. Bethesda Game Studios’ July 2026 update Fallout 76’s September 2026 roadmap
Bethesda also reported that Fallout 4 had sold more than 35 million copies, Fallout Shelter had more than 250 million players, and Fallout 76 had received nearly 70 free updates. These are figures published by Bethesda Game Studios in July 2026, not independently verified measurements. The studio also said Fallout Season 2 received 10 Emmy nominations.
