On iPhone 15 and later, go to Settings > Battery > Charging and select 80%. Apple’s Charge Limit is a selectable ceiling, not a guarantee that the displayed battery percentage will never go above 80%.
Set the charge limit to 80%
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Tap Charging.
- Select 80%.
Apple lists charge limits from 80% to 100% in 5% increments. To change or remove the limit later, return to Settings > Battery > Charging. No app, subscription, or special charger is required for this Settings change. Apple Support’s Charge Limit instructions describe availability and behavior.

Which iPhones have a selectable 80% limit?
Apple supports Charge Limit on iPhone 15 and later. If you do not see a Charging screen under Battery, check your iPhone model. Apple’s instructions for iPhone 14 and earlier instead point to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging, where you can manage Optimised Battery Charging. That feature is not a selectable fixed 80% cap. Apple does not document a software workaround that adds Charge Limit to those older models. Apple’s iPhone User Guide covers the supported setting and older-model controls.

What happens when the phone reaches the limit?
The limit is approximate in normal use. Apple says, “Your iPhone will charge to within a few percentage points of your chosen limit and then stop charging.” If the battery level falls by more than 5 percentage points while the iPhone is still connected, charging resumes and approaches the limit again. Apple Support documents this behavior.

Even with a limit below 100%, iPhone may occasionally charge fully to keep its state-of-charge estimate accurate. Apple’s user guide notes that full charges may happen more often if the phone does not regularly complete a full charge. So an occasional reading above 80% does not necessarily mean the setting has failed.
Charge Limit or Optimised Battery Charging?

Apple says Optimised Battery Charging needs at least 14 days to learn charging habits and at least nine charges of five hours or more in one location before it can activate. These are Apple’s stated feature requirements, not measurements of battery-life gains. Apple says Charge Limit can help reduce battery wear, but its cited support material does not quantify a universal lifespan benefit from choosing exactly 80%.

Change the limit or allow a full charge
Return to Settings > Battery > Charging to choose a different limit. When the limit is set to 100%, the interface may offer Allow Until Tomorrow, which returns to the saved limit at 6:00 a.m., or Set Limit to 100%, which keeps that setting until you change it. To charge fully sooner, Apple documents Charge to 100% in Battery settings. Interface labels may vary with later iOS releases or localization.
