To clear Instagram’s recent searches, open Search, tap the search bar, choose See all if it appears, then tap Clear All and confirm. To remove just one entry, tap its remove control if available. Clearing this list does not guarantee that Instagram will stop suggesting an account when you search.
Clear all recent searches in the Instagram app
Instagram’s interface can vary by app version and account, but a published walkthrough describes this route:

- Open Instagram and tap Search.
- Tap the search bar. If See all appears beside recent searches, tap it.
- Tap Clear All and confirm when prompted.

Remove one search without clearing the rest
Open the recent-search list using the Search screen and search bar. If a remove control appears beside the entry, tap it to delete that item while keeping the other recent searches. If you do not see an individual remove option, use the available clear-history control or try the Accounts Center route below.

Try the Accounts Center search-history setting
Some users may find search-history controls in Accounts Center. A 2026 guide reports this path, though it may not be available to every account:
- Open your profile menu.
- Tap Accounts Center, then Your information and permissions.
- Tap Search history and select the Instagram account, if prompted.
- Remove individual searches or clear the history if those options are offered.
This route is described by Gadgets Now. If Search history is missing, return to the Search screen; the setting’s availability can vary.

Why an account may still appear after you clear searches
Recent searches and suggested accounts are not the same thing. Clearing recent searches empties the stored list; it does not promise that an account will never appear again as a suggested result. If your concern is the recommendations in Explore, Reels, or Feed—not the recent-search list—Meta offers a separate Reset suggested content control. Meta’s published path is Profile > More options > Content preferences > Reset suggested content. The reset applies to recommendations across Explore, Reels, and Feed; those recommendations may personalize again over time based on the content and accounts you interact with. It is not a search-history clearing tool. See Meta’s announcement.

What about the Similar Account Suggestions setting?
A third-party guide describes a web profile setting called Similar Account Suggestions. It concerns whether your profile is suggested on other profiles, with the tradeoff that your account would no longer be suggested there either. That is different from suppressing accounts in your own Search results, and its current availability is uncertain. It is not a reliable substitute for clearing recent searches.

Choose the control that matches the problem
- One unwanted recent entry: remove that entry if the list offers an individual control.
- A clean recent-search list: use Clear All, or the Accounts Center option if it is available.
- Explore, Reels, or Feed recommendations: consider Meta’s separate Reset suggested content control.
