Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Argos records viewport width and height as screenshot metadata; it does not set the browser viewport for you.
Set a fixed viewport in Playwright
For a Playwright suite, define explicit dimensions in the project’s use.viewport setting. The values below are an example, not a universal standard: choose dimensions that represent the layout you want to test.

import { defineConfig } from "@playwright/test";
export default defineConfig({
use: {
viewport: { width: 1280, height: 720 },
deviceScaleFactor: 1,
},
});
Use the same configuration when creating the baseline and when generating later comparisons. Argos’s Playwright integration uses the Argos reporter and argosScreenshot(page, "homepage") to capture a page. Follow the Argos Playwright quickstart to install and configure it; a baseline on the default branch is needed before pull-request builds can be compared normally.

If responsive behavior is part of the test, define deliberate viewport variants—such as separate projects or test cases—with explicit dimensions. Treat each size as its own capture context instead of inheriting dimensions from a developer’s display or another implicit setting.
#1 Best Overall
- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Set a fixed viewport in Cypress
In Cypress, configure global dimensions with viewportWidth and viewportHeight:
import { defineConfig } from "cypress";
export default defineConfig({
viewportWidth: 1280,
viewportHeight: 720,
});
For an intentional per-test change, call cy.viewport(width, height). Cypress restores the configured defaults between tests, so set the project defaults explicitly even when individual tests use other sizes. Cypress documents a default viewport of 1000 by 660 pixels; relying on a default makes the intended test dimensions less obvious. See the Cypress viewport API reference for the command and configuration behavior.

Keep more than the dimensions consistent
A fixed width and height are necessary, but can’t by themselves guarantee identical rendering. Argos’s guidance recommends pinning the viewport and device scale factor and keeping the browser version and operating system consistent between runs. Differences in scrollbar behavior across operating systems can change the content area and create broad visual diffs. See Argos’s guide to flaky visual tests.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Viewport: use identical numeric width and height for baseline and comparison captures.
- Scale: where supported, set the device scale factor explicitly, such as
1in the Playwright example. - Rendering environment: run the same browser version and OS in CI for baseline and comparison.
- Scrollbars: check whether they alter the available content width. Hiding scrollbars with CSS is a possible mitigation if they appear in captures, but do so only when that matches the product’s intended rendering.
Argos screenshot metadata represents the viewport using numeric width and height fields, for example { "width": 1280, "height": 720 }. This describes the capture context; configure the actual viewport in the test framework. See the Argos screenshot metadata reference.

- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
Troubleshoot inconsistent Argos screenshots
- Large diffs after a viewport change: restore the baseline dimensions or deliberately create a separate responsive variant. A width change can trigger layout reflow across the page.
- Different results on developer machines and CI: check that the test runner uses explicit dimensions rather than the machine’s screen size, and compare the browser and OS used for each run.
- Content shifts despite matching dimensions: inspect device scale factor and scrollbar behavior; either can affect the rendered content area.
- Pull-request captures have no normal comparison: verify the Argos reporter and screenshot call are configured, and that a baseline exists on the default branch.
- Responsive checks overwrite or confuse a fixed-size result: give each intended viewport its own explicit test or project configuration and capture context.
Or skip the browser setup
For a standalone website capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with the target URL and returns a screenshot or PDF. It is separate from the Argos baseline-comparison workflow and does not configure a Playwright or Cypress test viewport. Its options include viewport dimensions and device presets. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes supported cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers screenshot and page-information tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
