How the workflow fits together
n8n has an official workflow template for creating a website screenshot and sending it to a Telegram channel. Treat it as a starting point: the listing confirms the use case, but does not establish that every n8n version or capture provider behaves identically. The workflow’s key boundary is the output from the capture step: it must provide image bytes, a Telegram file ID, or an HTTP image URL that the Telegram node can use.

- Start: choose a manual trigger for a one-off test, a schedule for recurring captures, or a webhook when another service should initiate the workflow.
- Capture: use a browser or screenshot service step that renders the target URL and produces an image.
- Deliver: configure the Telegram node to send the image to the intended chat or channel.
The trigger depends on your desired cadence and control; the template listing does not specify one trigger that is right for every setup. The official template is described at n8n’s workflow library.
Prepare the Telegram bot and destination
Create the bot credential
- In Telegram, create a bot through BotFather and obtain its bot access token.
- In n8n, create a Telegram credential using that token. Follow the current credential setup instructions in n8n’s Telegram credential documentation.
- Keep the token secret. Store it in the credential rather than in workflow text, screenshots, or a publicly shared export.
Choose a channel or group
- Channel: add the bot to the channel with permission to post. For a public channel, the destination can be written as
@channelusername. - Group: use the group’s Chat ID, not a channel username. n8n documents ways to obtain a chat ID, including using the Telegram Trigger; see n8n’s chat operations guidance.
Before sending to your final destination, use a private test chat or a test channel that the bot can access. This helps separate destination or permission problems from capture-step problems.

Build the screenshot-to-Telegram workflow
1. Add a trigger
For an initial run, use a manual trigger so you can inspect each step. Replace it with a schedule when you want recurring screenshots or a webhook when an outside event should start the capture. Set the cadence and timezone deliberately if using a schedule; those choices determine when n8n runs, not how the page is captured.
2. Add a website capture step
Add a browser automation or screenshot-service step that accepts the target URL and returns an image. Configure the page wait or render behavior to suit the target site. A screenshot step may return binary image data, a public HTTP URL, or a Telegram file ID; note which output it produces because the Telegram node must be configured for the same input mode.
Choose a capture method that fits your deployment and page: check whether it renders JavaScript and waits for the page to settle, whether it can reach authenticated pages without exposing credentials, what request limits or recurring costs apply, and whether it runs in your n8n environment. Do not assume a page will render identically to a normal browser visit: authentication, client-side rendering, bot checks, and viewport-dependent layouts can affect the result.

3. Configure Telegram Send Photo
- Add the Telegram node and select the Telegram credential you created.
- Set Resource to Message and Operation to Send Photo.
- Enter the destination Chat ID or public channel username.
- Choose the photo input mode to match the capture output. For image bytes, enable Binary File and set the binary property name to the field emitted by the capture step. For a Telegram file ID or an HTTP URL, provide that value in the photo field instead.
- Optionally add a caption. The n8n node documentation gives a maximum caption length of 1,024 characters and includes notification, parse-mode, reply, and forum-thread options.

4. Run and verify
Execute the workflow once, then inspect the capture node’s output and the Telegram node’s result. Confirm that the image is readable, the caption is correct, and the message arrived in the intended destination. Only then activate a recurring schedule or connect the production webhook.

Troubleshoot common failures
No image arrives
- Inspect the capture output first and confirm it contains an image or a usable image URL/file ID.
- If sending binary data, verify that Binary File is enabled and that the configured property name exactly matches the incoming binary field.
- If sending a URL, confirm it is reachable by Telegram and returns an image rather than an HTML page, login screen, or error response.
Channel posting fails
Check that the bot has been added to the intended channel and is allowed to send messages there. Confirm the destination is the correct channel username or ID.
Group destination fails
Use the group Chat ID. The @channelusername form is for a public channel, not a group.
The screenshot does not match the page you see
Check whether the target requires authentication, delays content until client-side scripts run, blocks automated requests, or changes layout at the configured viewport. Adjust the capture step’s rendering and wait behavior, viewport, or access configuration as appropriate. These are possible site-specific causes, not guaranteed properties of every site.
