1. Add the page to a monitor
Create a watch for the exact URL whose changes matter. If the page has a stable, relevant section, use the monitor’s visual selection or content filtering options to avoid alerting on unrelated page changes. changedetection.io describes page monitoring and change review in its project README.

A request-based fetcher is a reasonable starting point when the server response already contains the content to monitor. If the page renders its content in the browser with JavaScript, or requires browser interaction, use changedetection.io’s documented browser-based html_webdriver fetcher, which can use Playwright or Puppeteer. 3. Create a Discord webhook
- In Discord, open the server and channel where you want alerts delivered.
- Create a webhook for that channel using Discord’s documented workflow.
- Copy the generated webhook URL and add it to the monitor’s notification configuration.
Discord’s Intro to Webhooks guide explains creating a webhook, selecting its destination channel, and giving its URL to the service that sends messages. changedetection.io’s API shows a Discord-style notification URL in the form discord://webhook_id/webhook_token; follow the exact format required by the version and configuration you use.
4. Enable screenshot delivery and test it
changedetection.io documents the notification_screenshot option, but says screenshot inclusion depends on support from the notification URL. Its README also describes sending a screenshot when a change is detected. Do not assume that every Discord notification configuration attaches an image: trigger or wait for a real change and inspect the delivered message before relying on it. If attachments are unsupported, send a concise text alert with a link to the page or change history instead.

5. Keep the webhook private
Treat the webhook URL as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to post to its channel. Keep it out of public code, screenshots, and logs, and replace it if it is exposed. Discord’s documented setup relies on supplying that URL to the sending service.
Choose between text alerts and screenshot alerts

Make screenshot comparisons more consistent
A screenshot can change even when the site itself has not meaningfully changed. Playwright’s documentation notes that visual results can vary with the operating system, browser or runtime version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Keep the capture environment, browser version, viewport, and relevant settings consistent where possible. If a volatile region is irrelevant, Playwright documents using a stylesheet to hide dynamic elements during comparison; apply such masking carefully so it does not conceal changes you need to detect. No universal check interval, delivery latency, or alert guarantee is established for this workflow. Set expectations using the monitor and plan you actually deploy rather than describing alerts as instant or real-time.
Troubleshooting missed or noisy alerts
- The monitored content is blank or incomplete: The page may populate content after JavaScript runs or require interaction. Switch from a request-based fetcher to the browser-based fetcher and configure any required browser steps.
- Discord receives a message but no image: Screenshot attachment may not be supported by the selected notification URL or configuration. Check the notifier documentation and test the route; use a text notification with a history link if attachments are unavailable.
- Alerts fire for irrelevant visual changes: Narrow the monitored region where possible, inspect the diff, and stabilize the capture environment. Consider hiding only known volatile elements during comparison.
- No Discord message arrives: Verify that the webhook points to the intended channel, that its URL was entered in the correct format for the monitor, and that the monitor can reach Discord. Treat exposed webhook URLs as compromised and replace them.
- Alerts are not arriving as quickly as expected: The cited documentation does not establish a universal polling interval or delivery time. Check the monitor’s configured schedule and the limits of your specific deployment or plan.
