To send a custom header to the website being captured, set it in the screenshot provider’s rendering options—not in the headers you use to authenticate your request to the screenshot provider. The two HTTP requests have separate headers, and each provider uses its own option names.
Keep provider headers separate from target-page headers
Your application makes a request to the screenshot service, which in turn loads the page in a browser. The outer request may carry your screenshot API key. A target-page header—such as an Authorization token or preview-access header—must be passed through the provider’s documented browser or rendering option. Do not assume an outer request header is forwarded to the site being captured.

Keep the screenshot provider’s API key and the target site’s credential separate. Before implementing, identify the exact header name and value format the destination expects, then check the provider’s current documentation for how it sets headers on browser requests.

Send headers with screenshot-api.net
Screenshot API’s documentation says its GET endpoint accepts a repeatable header parameter in Name: value form, sent only to the target host. For credentials, the documentation advises using its POST JSON form instead of placing secrets in a URL query string, which may appear in access logs. See the Screenshot API documentation.

This example uses one target-site header. The Authorization header on the request authenticates to the screenshot service; the header parameter supplies a separate Authorization header to the target page.

Check whether the provider supports target headers
Do not infer target-header support from examples that show headers only for caller authentication. For example, Screenshot API’s documentation at screenshot-api.org/docs documents caller-authentication headers and locale as a way to set Accept-Language; the parameter reference reviewed does not establish a general arbitrary target-page header option. If arbitrary headers are essential, verify the current documentation or ask the provider.

Implementation checklist
- Find the exact header name and value format expected by the destination website.
- Confirm the screenshot provider’s current target-browser header option and whether it applies to the requests you need.
- Keep the screenshot service API key separate from the target-site token.
- Prefer a POST JSON body for secrets when the provider offers one; URLs may be captured in logs.
- If the site authenticates with a session cookie or HTTP Basic Auth, use the provider’s corresponding option when available.
- Inspect the final page status and screenshot. A login or error page may mean the target credential was missing, invalid, or not accepted.
Troubleshooting
The capture shows a login page instead of the protected content
Check that the target-site credential is set through the provider’s target-header option, rather than only on the request to the screenshot service. Confirm the header spelling, value format, token validity, and whether the site expects a cookie or Basic Auth instead.

The provider rejects the request or ignores the header
Verify the provider-specific field name and request shape. For screenshot-api.net, the documented GET parameter is repeatable header, while its POST form uses a headers object. For Cloudflare Browser Run, the documented JSON field is setExtraHTTPHeaders. These names are not portable across providers.
A secret appears in a URL
Do not put a production token in a query parameter if the provider offers a POST body. Screenshot API explicitly warns that query strings may appear in access logs. Keep credentials out of diagnostic logs and shared command history as well.
The screenshot is an error page or has an unexpected status
Check the target URL, the page’s final status, and whether the destination accepted the credential. Screenshot API documents X-Page-Status as the final document status. A successful request to the screenshot service does not by itself prove that the target page authenticated successfully.
