How to See a Wi‑Fi Password on iPhone

Use Passwords > Wi‑Fi on iOS 18 and later, or Settings > Wi‑Fi > Info > Password on iOS 16–17, to reveal and copy a saved network password.

On iOS 18 and later, open Passwords, tap Wi‑Fi, choose the network, then tap Password. Authenticate with your passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID, and choose Copy Password when you need to paste it elsewhere. On iOS 16 or 17, use Settings > Wi‑Fi > Info > Password for the current network, or Settings > Wi‑Fi > Edit for a previously joined network.

The quickest way on newer iPhones

Apple’s current iPhone guide places saved Wi‑Fi credentials in the Passwords app. This works even when the iPhone is not currently connected, as long as the network was previously saved.

  1. Open Passwords.
  2. Tap Wi‑Fi.
  3. Select the network name.
  4. Tap the Password field.
  5. Authenticate with your device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID.
  6. Tap Copy Password to copy the credential.

See Apple’s current instructions at Apple’s iPhone User Guide. The network must be saved on this iPhone; a nearby network that you have never joined will not have a password record to reveal.

  1. The other person opens Wi‑Fi settings and selects your network.
  2. Keep your iPhone unlocked, connected to that network, and close to the other device.
  3. When the prompt appears on your iPhone, tap Share Password, then Done.

Both devices need Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth enabled, both people must be signed in to their Apple Accounts, each person’s Apple Account email address or phone number must be saved in the other’s Contacts, and Personal Hotspot must be turned off. If the prompt does not appear, restart both devices and enter the password manually if necessary. Apple lists the requirements at How to share your Wi‑Fi password from your iPhone or iPad.

How to share with Android, Windows, or another device

The automatic Share Password prompt is intended for nearby Apple devices. For Android phones, Windows PCs, smart TVs, consoles, printers, or other hardware, reveal the credential in Passwords > Wi‑Fi (or Settings), then copy it and paste or type it on the other device.

If you cannot see the Password option

Problem Likely reason What to do
No Passwords app The iPhone is on an older iOS version, or the app is hard to locate. Search for Passwords. On iOS 16 or 17, use Settings > Wi‑Fi instead.
No Wi‑Fi category The network was never successfully saved, was removed, or the interface differs. Check Settings > Wi‑Fi > Edit, and update iOS if the iPhone supports it.
Face ID or Touch ID fails Authentication did not complete. Enter the iPhone’s device passcode.
Share Password does not appear A contact, Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, proximity, Apple Account, or Hotspot requirement is missing. Check every prerequisite, keep the devices nearby, and restart both devices.
The password does not work The router password may have changed, or the saved record may be stale. Copy it again, check the router label or management app, or ask the network administrator.
The network is not listed This iPhone never saved it, or the record was deleted. Retrieve the credential from the router, its administrator, or another device that saved it.

A managed iPhone may also have organizational restrictions. Third-party “Wi‑Fi password viewer” apps are not a normal solution: standard apps cannot bypass Apple’s authentication or recover a password the phone never stored.

  • Unlocked for freedom to choose your carrier. Compatible with both GSM & CDMA networks. The phone is unlocked to work with all GSM Carriers & CDMA Carriers Including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Straight Talk., Etc.

Why a revealed password might not work

The iPhone displays the credential in its saved record; it does not verify that the router still accepts it. Problems can occur when the router password changed, several access points use the same network name with different settings, or a character was mistyped.

  • Use Copy Password instead of retyping a long, case-sensitive credential.
  • Forget the network and reconnect if appropriate.
  • Check the router label, router-management app, or administrator.
  • Confirm that the network is not using WPA-Enterprise credentials, a hotel captive portal, or a separate username and password.

What about iOS 15 or earlier?

Apple’s built-in reveal-and-copy workflow is documented from iOS 16 onward. If the iPhone cannot update, check the router or its app, ask the network administrator, or use another device that has the password saved. Resetting or reconfiguring the router should be a last resort. Router-specific tools may offer their own methods, but the modern iPhone Password field is not available on every older release.
