Make the changes in the hotspot’s touchscreen, companion app, or settings page; the exact steps depend on the model and carrier variant.
How do I change my hotspot password?
First identify the exact hotspot model and find its instructions. A dedicated hotspot may have settings on its touchscreen, in a companion app, or in a browser-based admin page. Menu names, login details, and available security options vary, so do not use an address or factory password intended for another model.

- Open the correct settings interface. Check the hotspot screen, label, carrier instructions, or manual for the supported way to manage it.
- Secure the administrator login. If the hotspot has a separate admin password and it is still the factory default, change it to a unique password. This protects access to the settings.
- Set a new Wi-Fi password. Find the wireless or Wi-Fi settings and replace the current network password. On the NETGEAR Nighthawk M6, for example, the touchscreen has a Wi-Fi tile; its web settings use Settings > Setup > Wireless. NETGEAR’s app instructions for supported Nighthawk hotspot models use Settings > Wi-Fi Settings. These are model-specific examples, not universal menu paths. - Choose a security mode and save. Use the strongest mode supported by both the hotspot and the devices you need to connect. Never select “None” if you want to prevent unapproved Wi-Fi connections.
- Reconnect your devices. Applying the change may restart Wi-Fi or disconnect the device you used to manage the hotspot. Rejoin the network on each phone, laptop, or tablet with the new password.
What is the difference between the hotspot Wi-Fi password and admin password?
The Wi-Fi password lets a phone, laptop, or other client join the hotspot’s network. The admin password lets someone open the hotspot’s settings. They are separate credentials on some devices, so changing the Wi-Fi password does not necessarily secure the administrator login. T-Mobile’s Sonic 2.0 instructions, for example, distinguish its admin-page password from its Wi-Fi password; that LTE model is an example of the distinction, not a setup guide for every 5G hotspot. Which Wi-Fi security mode should I choose?
Choose the strongest option that works for both the hotspot and the devices that need access. Motorola’s hotspot guidance describes WPA3 as the most secure option where available, while noting that older devices may not connect to WPA3 or mixed WPA2/WPA3. It describes WPA2 (AES) as a broader-compatibility choice. Use these as manufacturer-specific recommendations, not a guarantee that every hotspot offers the same menu.

Motorola’s mode recommendations and compatibility notes are available in its hotspot support instructions. If a needed device cannot join after you choose WPA3 or a mixed mode, check whether the hotspot offers WPA2 (AES) and use it if compatibility is more important for that device.
How can I check who is using my hotspot?
If the hotspot provides a connected-device list, review it after changing the password. Some models also let you set a device limit or an allow-list, but these controls are not available on every hotspot. Motorola documents connected-device management on supported models; consult your own model’s instructions before looking for a particular control.

- Remove or block a device you do not recognize if the hotspot offers that option.
- Use a device limit or allow-list if available and appropriate for the people who need access.
- Change the Wi-Fi password if you believe someone who should no longer have access knows it, then reconnect your own devices with the new password.
What if the instructions do not match my hotspot?
Confirm the model number and carrier variant before following a menu path. A 5G-capable product can have carrier-specific versions, and another model’s login address or default credential may not work. If you cannot find hotspot settings or are unsure whether your mobile plan supports hotspot data, check the manufacturer or carrier instructions; Motorola advises contacting the carrier about plan support.
