Google’s Chrome History instructions describe using this search bar to find a specific site. Searching a remembered keyword can also help when you cannot recall the page address.

Use the address bar as a shortcut

Type @history in Chrome’s address bar, press Tab or Space, enter keywords for the page you previously visited, and select a result. This is a keyword-search shortcut, not a separate date-browsing view. See Google’s address-bar search instructions.

Browse Chrome history by date

Open the desktop History page and choose By date to browse entries in chronological order. This is useful when you remember roughly when you visited a page but not its name. The other views include search and By group.

The documentation reviewed here does not describe entering an arbitrary date or custom date range as a History search query. Google’s optional AI-powered History search has preset filters—Yesterday, Last 7 days, and Last 30 days—rather than a documented custom range.

What Chrome History includes—and what it leaves out

Google Chrome Help says, “Your History lists the pages you’ve visited on Chrome in the last 90 days.” This is Google’s stated product-history window, not a guarantee that every page appears. History does not list pages visited in Incognito, Chrome pages such as chrome://settings, or entries you deleted.

These details are described in Google’s Chrome History help.

Use AI-powered History search for a description instead of a keyword

Chrome offers an optional AI-powered History search that can find pages from everyday-language descriptions when you do not remember the exact keyword or address. Google’s feature instructions say it is available only in the US with Chrome in English. Its time filters are Yesterday, Last 7 days, and Last 30 days, and it can match only visits from after the feature was turned on. A managed profile may have the feature disabled.

Consider the local-storage tradeoff

When enabled, the feature stores visited-page contents locally in addition to page titles and URLs. Google says those contents are saved encrypted to the device and that the feature might affect Chrome performance. You can turn it off in Chrome settings. If you do not want page contents stored locally for this feature, use the ordinary History search or date view instead. See Google’s details on History search data and settings.

On Android, open History—but do not assume desktop controls are identical

On Android, open Chrome’s More menu and tap History to view entries. Google’s Android History instructions do not document the desktop History search bar, By date view, or @history address-bar flow. The Android instructions therefore do not establish that those desktop controls work the same way on Android.

Chrome browsing history is different from Google Account activity

If a page is missing from Chrome History, first distinguish the browser’s visited-page list from activity saved to your Google Account. Google says Search history is managed separately from Chrome browsing history; My Activity may contain some searches and websites depending on account settings and whether the service supports saving that activity. Check Google Account activity controls if you mean account activity rather than the list in Chrome.
