Use Tab Search to return to a page that is open now, bookmarks to keep pages for later, and tab groups to organize related pages for a project. Chrome’s address bar can search tabs, bookmarks, and browsing history, so it can also serve as a general starting point.
Choose the right way to find a page

Find a tab that is already open
- Select Tab Search on the tab strip and enter a word from the page title or site. Select the matching result to switch to that tab.
- Alternatively, use Ctrl + Shift + A on Windows or Linux, or Command + Shift + A on Mac, to open Tab Search.
- Or click the address bar, type
@tabs, press Tab or Space, then enter a keyword and select the matching tab.
Google describes Tab Search as a way to find a specific tab when multiple tabs are open. The address-bar shortcut is useful when you already know a word from the page or site.

Save a page and find it later
Bookmark a page
- Open the page you want to keep.
- Select the bookmark star beside the address bar. If Chrome offers a folder choice, choose where you want the bookmark saved.
Google’s Chrome Help recommends bookmarks for sites you want Chrome to remember, including favourites and frequently visited pages.
Make frequent bookmarks visible
To show the bookmarks bar, select More > Bookmarks and lists > Show bookmarks bar. Select a bookmark on the bar when you want to reopen it.

Search or browse saved bookmarks
- To search by keyword, enter
@bookmarksin the address bar. - Press Tab or Space, type a keyword, and select the result.
- To browse by folder or order, open More > Bookmarks and lists > Bookmark Manager or Show all bookmarks. The navigation panel supports visual and compact views.
Organize related pages with tab groups
Use a tab group when several open pages belong to the same project or task. Give the group a short, descriptive name and a color so it is easier to recognize; collapse it when it is not in use. A group suits project-based retrieval, while Tab Search is the direct choice when you know a page keyword but not its group.
Chrome’s Google Workspace instructions say a closed group is saved in the bookmarks bar or the Tab groups menu and can be opened again. Settings can also show tab groups in the bookmarks bar and automatically pin new groups there. Names and options may vary by platform.

Use the address bar as a general search entry point
Chrome’s address bar can search the web, bookmarks, and browsing history. Some address-bar features depend on whether the default search engine supports them. If a tab or bookmark suggestion does not appear, use Tab Search or Bookmark Manager directly. To find a page from an earlier visit that you did not bookmark, open browsing history from Chrome’s menu.

Signing in with the same Google Account makes saved information accessible across signed-in devices, subject to sync settings. Google’s sync help says an account can save up to 100,000 bookmarks; its help page does not show a publication or revision year, so treat that as the stated capacity rather than a dated limit. If you set a custom passphrase, some history may not be available on other devices.
