macOS’s documented screenshot shortcuts capture the screen, a selected area, or a window—not a scrolling webpage from top to bottom. If you need a conventional image, capture the visible page in sections or use a separate full-page capture tool. If you need to keep the whole page using built-in Safari features, save it as a Web Archive; that creates a webpage file, not a screenshot.
Choose the right output
| Method | What you get | What it captures or preserves |
|---|---|---|
| Mac screenshot shortcuts | Image of screen pixels | The entire display, a selected area, or a window/menu; Apple’s cited Mac guide does not describe scrolling capture of a full webpage. |
| Safari Web Archive | Saved webpage file | The page and its graphics; links work while their destination webpages remain available. Some pages may prevent saving items. |
| Safari Page Source | HTML source file | HTML only, not a screenshot or a complete visual copy with all page resources. |
For a shareable picture of a long page, the built-in shortcuts can capture only what is on screen at a time. For a saved copy of the page as a webpage, use Safari’s Web Archive option.

Capture what is visible on your Mac
Apple’s built-in shortcuts let you capture the whole display, a region, or a window or menu. They do not turn a long webpage into one automatically scrolling image.

- Press Shift-Command-3 to capture the entire screen.
- Press Shift-Command-4, then drag to select an area.
- To capture a window or menu, press Shift-Command-4, press the Space bar, then click the window or menu.
- On macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app and choose a capture option. Its controls include a timer, save location, floating thumbnail, and pointer visibility.
Screenshots save to the desktop by default. In the Screenshot app, use Options to choose a different save location. On supported Mac models running macOS Tahoe 26 or later, Apple also documents SDR/PNG and HDR/HEIF capture format options; availability depends on the Mac model and system version.

Save the whole webpage in Safari
If your goal is to keep the complete page rather than create an image, Safari can save it as a Web Archive. Apple describes this as saving an entire webpage, including its graphics and links; links still depend on the destination pages being available.
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Choose File > Save As.
- In the Format menu, choose Web Archive to save the page with its graphics, or Page Source to save only its HTML.
- Save the file where you want to keep it.
Some webpages may prevent Safari from saving items displayed on the page. A Web Archive is not a screenshot: it is a saved webpage, and how it appears can depend on the archived resources and whether linked destinations remain available.

What if you need one long image?
The Apple Mac screenshot instructions cited here do not document a built-in scrolling, full-webpage image capture. The standard shortcuts can still capture sections as you scroll, but those are separate screen images and may require manual assembly. For a single tall image, use a full-page capture feature in a browser or an app that explicitly supports scrolling capture; availability and steps depend on the product and version.

Printing is a different route
In Safari, Command-P opens the print workflow for the current webpage. Apple’s shortcut reference confirms that command, but does not establish a complete PDF-export sequence or guarantee how a particular page will paginate. Print layout can vary by webpage and system version, so preview the result before relying on it as a complete record.
Safari also documents Command-Down Arrow and Command-Up Arrow to reach the bottom-left or top-left of a webpage. Shortcuts can vary with keyboard language and layout.
