Sign in through the site’s normal single sign-on (SSO) flow, open the protected page in that same authorized browser session, then capture it with your browser or operating system’s screenshot feature. A remote screenshot service may start without your session and show the sign-in page instead. For a one-off image, local capture is usually the simplest option.
Take a screenshot in your signed-in browser
- Check permission. Confirm that the site and your organization allow you to capture the page. If a managed policy blocks screenshots, ask the site owner or administrator for an approved export, print view, or exception.
- Sign in normally. Use the browser profile you are authorized to use and complete the site’s SSO flow, including any required multi-factor authentication.
- Open the exact page. Navigate to the protected content and wait for the text, charts, images, and other material you need to finish loading. Scroll or adjust the page to the state you want to document.
- Capture the appropriate area. Use the browser or operating system’s screenshot feature for the visible area. Use a browser’s full-page capture or an approved tool if you need more than what is on screen; use an element capture if the tool supports it and you need only one component.
- Review before sharing. Confirm that the image shows the intended content, not an expired session or sign-in screen. Check for sensitive information that should not reach the intended audience.
Why a screenshot may show the SSO login page
SSO authenticates you to the site; it does not automatically authenticate a separate screenshot service. A remote renderer typically needs a supported way to access the page, such as session cookies, HTTP Basic authentication, or token headers. SSO may also involve MFA, conditional access, or other interactive steps that an automated service does not support. If the service cannot use an approved authenticated browser context, capture locally in the signed-in browser or use an export approved by the site owner.
When remote capture is appropriate
Remote capture can make sense for repeated or automated work, but first confirm that the service supports the site’s authentication design and that you are permitted to provide the credentials or session material it needs. Choose a method based on whether the task is one-off or recurring, whether you need the visible area or a full page, and what your site and organization permit.

- For a one-off image: the signed-in local browser is usually simpler because it already has the active session.
- For repeat automation: use only a service and authentication method approved for the page. Test that it reaches the intended content rather than a login screen.
- For a blocked capture: ask the administrator for an authorized alternative. Do not try another method to defeat the control.
Protect cookies and bearer tokens as credentials. Do not put them in shared URLs, tickets, or source control, and do not send them to a service that is not approved to receive them.
Respect managed screenshot restrictions
Chrome Enterprise documentation describes a policy that controls whether users can take screenshots and share screens on certain managed websites. The documented policy covers keyboard shortcuts and apps or extensions that use Chrome’s capture API: Chrome Enterprise policy: ScreenCaptureDenied. If your organization or the site owner has enabled a restriction, follow its approved workflow rather than attempting to bypass it.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The image shows the login page: the capture likely ran outside your signed-in browser session, or the session expired. Reopen the page in your authorized profile; for remote capture, verify that the service supports an approved authentication method for this site.
- Some content is missing: wait for it to load, scroll to trigger lazy-loaded sections, and capture again. If it remains absent, check whether the site requires an interaction or blocks the capture method.
- The screenshot is blocked: a managed browser or site policy may prevent capture. Ask the administrator or site owner about an approved export or exception.
- You cannot safely provide session credentials: do not send cookies or tokens to an unapproved service. Use the signed-in local browser or request an approved export.
- The image contains information you should not share: do not distribute it until you have reviewed and handled sensitive details under your organization’s rules.
