A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11A full-page screenshot captures the document’s scrollable page, not necessarily the hidden content inside an independently scrolling panel. To capture everything in a nested scroll container, identify the element that scrolls, then expose and capture its contents in sections—or use automation to repeat that process.
Why a full-page screenshot misses content in a scrollable panel
There may be two separate scroll areas: the document and an inner element such as a div, modal, or sidebar. A page-level full-page screenshot covers the full scrollable document; it does not automatically expand every overflow region inside it. Playwright’s documentation defines full-page capture in terms of the page’s full scrollable size (Playwright Screenshots). In a Playwright issue, maintainer comment author dgozman explained that full-page capture does not expand scrollable containers; an element screenshot shows only the element’s currently scrolled content (Playwright issue 12962).

First identify which area owns the scrollbar
- Move the pointer over the outer page and scroll. Note whether the document moves.
- Move the pointer over the panel and scroll again. If its content moves while the document stays put, the panel is an independent scroll container.
- For nested panels, test each one separately. Record which area must move to reveal the content you need.
This distinction determines what to capture: the document, the panel’s visible region, or a series of panel positions.
Capture the document and the visible panel
Playwright: full document
With Playwright, a page screenshot using fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page, not all of its child scrollers. The basic call is:

await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
The current API reference describes the option as capturing a full-page screenshot (Playwright Page API).
Playwright: target element
A locator screenshot targets an element, which is useful for isolating a panel. It does not reveal the panel’s off-screen content just because it is a scroll container:

await page.locator('.container').screenshot({ path: 'container.png' });
Use a selector that identifies the actual scrolling element, not merely a nearby wrapper. The Playwright issue above describes the current-scroll-position limitation.
Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools provides a “Take a screenshot of the entire page” toolbar button, which can be enabled in DevTools settings. To target a node, select it in Inspector and choose “Screenshot Node” from its context menu. Mozilla documents these as separate capture options (Firefox screenshot documentation). Node capture should not be treated as a guarantee that clipped overflow will be expanded.

Chrome and Chromium
For a nested scroller, do not assume a DevTools full-size capture will expand the inner panel. The available documentation here does not establish that behavior for current Chrome or Chromium versions. Check the current DevTools command palette for available screenshot commands, then inspect the result for clipped panel content.
Capture all content in a tall nested container
When the target is taller than its visible area, capture successive positions. The need to expose each position follows from the documented limitation that a scrollable-element screenshot shows its current scrolled content; stitching is a separate practical step, not a built-in feature established by those sources.

- Capture the document separately if you also need the surrounding page.
- Set the inner panel to its top position and capture the visible panel or viewport.
- Scroll the panel down by less than one viewport so adjacent captures overlap. Save another capture.
- Repeat until the panel reaches its bottom. Keep other nested scrollers at the position needed to show the region of interest.
- If you need one composite image, align and stitch the captures afterward. Preserve enough overlap to match repeated content and check for gaps or duplicated strips.
- Review the first and last content, sticky headers or footers, and any material that loads while scrolling.
Dynamic pages can change as you scroll. Wait for the target content to render and inspect the saved images; the cited sources do not prescribe a universal delay or lazy-loading recipe.
Choose between one image and a sequence
| Need | Suitable approach | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| Whole document, including its page-level scroll range | Playwright full-page screenshot or Firefox entire-page screenshot | The document’s scrollable page; not necessarily clipped child scrollers. |
| Only the currently visible part of a panel | Playwright locator screenshot or Firefox “Screenshot Node” | The target element as currently scrolled; hidden overflow is not automatically exposed. |
| All content inside a panel taller than its viewport | Repeated captures after scrolling the panel | Sections at successive scroll positions; combine them separately if you need one image. |
Troubleshoot missing or incomplete captures
- The full-page image is short: the document may be short while an inner panel owns the scrollbar. Capture the panel at successive scroll positions.
- The element screenshot shows only a slice: that is expected for a scrollable element at its current position. Scroll the element and capture again.
- Some sections are absent in a sequence: increase the overlap between captures, confirm the panel reached each position, and wait for content to render before saving.
- Sticky content appears repeatedly: check how fixed or sticky elements behave at each scroll position; the source documentation does not specify a universal method for removing or reconciling them.
- The page and panel move together unexpectedly: recheck which element owns the scrollbar, especially when several nested regions can scroll.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-request capture is useful for page screenshots; a page-level capture should not be mistaken for automatic expansion of nested overflow. For full panel contents, expose the panel’s sections as described above. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
For API options and parameters, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. Example cURL request:
