On a Chromebook, the built-in Screen Capture tool saves what is on the display; its documented modes do not capture an entire scrolling webpage as one image. Use Screen Capture for a visible area, and—if school rules allow—an approved extension such as GoFullPage for a full-page image. If a PDF or printout will do, use Chrome’s print workflow instead.
Take an ordinary screenshot with Chromebook Screen Capture
- Open the webpage and bring the content you need into view.
- Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows to open Screen Capture. On a Chromebook with a dedicated screenshot key, use that key instead. You can also open Screen Capture from quick settings.
- Choose Full screen, Partial screenshot, or Window screenshot. For a partial screenshot, select the region. Google’s instructions also describe using Space to change capture mode and keyboard controls to adjust the selection size.
- Find the screenshot in Downloads by default. The capture is also copied to the clipboard; use Screen Capture settings to change the save folder.
Here, “full screen” means the display, not the whole scrollable webpage. Google’s listed built-in modes do not describe stitching a long page into one image. The Chromebook keyboard-shortcut guide also lists Ctrl + Show windows for a screenshot and Shift + Ctrl + Show windows for a partial screenshot; if your model or keyboard layout differs, opening Screen Capture from quick settings makes the available modes clearer. Google’s Screen Capture instructions and keyboard-shortcut guide cover the controls.

Capture the whole scrolling webpage as one image
An optional Chrome Web Store extension such as GoFullPage advertises full-page capture, with PNG, JPG, and PDF export. It is an extension, not a built-in ChromeOS capture mode.

If installation is restricted or unclear, ask the school administrator.
- Review the extension’s requested permissions and decide whether they are appropriate for the page you plan to capture.
- If installation is allowed, use the extension’s full-page capture option and choose an offered export format.
Do not assume an extension is installed or permitted on a school-managed Chromebook. Google documents that administrators can disable Screencast for managed users; that illustrates that device controls exist, but does not establish any particular school’s extension policy. The Web Store listing describes GoFullPage’s advertised capability, not its approval by your school or guaranteed results on every page. For sensitive school or personal information, follow school policy before using an extension.

Use print or save when you need a document, not an image
If your assignment accepts a document instead of a screenshot, Chrome lists Ctrl + P to print the current page and Ctrl + S to save it. The print workflow may let you save or print a PDF, depending on the available options. These are document routes, not screenshot commands; a page’s layout and the result of printing or saving can vary by website.
Screenshot on a Chromebook in tablet mode
On a supported Chromebook in tablet mode, press Power + Volume down to take a screenshot. This captures the screen; it is not, by itself, a full scrolling-page capture. See Google’s instructions for taking screenshots for device guidance.

Choose the method that matches the assignment
| Method | What you get | Install needed? | School-device consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in Screen Capture | Image of the display, selected region, or window | No | Use the built-in tool; it is the straightforward choice for visible content. |
| GoFullPage extension | Advertised full-page scrolling capture, exportable as PNG, JPG, or PDF | Yes | Check school rules and permissions; an administrator may control extension installation. |
| Chrome print or save | Printed page or saved document, potentially PDF through print options | No additional extension | Use when the task accepts a document rather than a screenshot; output depends on the page. |

If you are a developer who needs a website capture from a request rather than the Chromebook’s current screen, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. This is a separate workflow from a student’s device screenshot: it captures a URL, not a logged-in page shown in the Chromebook browser. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See ScreenshotNeo and the API documentation.
