How to Screenshot a Long Webpage in Chrome When It Uses Lazy Loading

Scroll through a long page and give deferred content time to load before capturing it with Chrome DevTools. Then inspect the image for missing sections.

To capture a long webpage with its lazy-loaded images, scroll down through the page first and pause as new content appears. After reaching the bottom, use Chrome DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot command, then inspect the image for missing sections. Scrolling can prompt deferred content to load, but it is not a guarantee: behavior varies by page.

Why a full-page screenshot can miss lazy-loaded content

Lazy loading delays some images or other content until they approach the visible part of the page. A full-height capture started at the top may not trigger the same scroll-driven loading behavior as visiting each section yourself. Missing lazy-loaded images are a practical risk, not an inevitable result; check the capture rather than assuming it is complete.

Pages with infinite scrolling, virtualized lists, carousels, nested scroll panels, or sticky headers can need extra attention. A finite screenshot cannot capture every item in an unbounded feed. Some sites scroll an inner panel instead of the document, so identify which area actually scrolls and verify the result.

How to capture a lazy-loading page in Chrome

  1. Open the page and let it settle. Wait for the initial visible content to finish loading.
  2. Scroll down in manageable increments. Pause when new content appears so images and embedded content have time to load. Continue to the bottom, wait briefly, and check again for sections that arrived late. This is a practical workaround, not a guarantee for every page.
  3. Open DevTools’ Command Menu. Press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac.
  4. Find the full-size capture command. Search for the full-size screenshot command and run it. Alternatively, in Device Mode, open More options and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome’s guide describes this as capturing the whole page, including content outside the viewport: Chrome DevTools Device Mode.
  5. Inspect the downloaded image from top to bottom. If content is missing, do another scroll-and-wait pass and capture again, or capture sections separately.

Chrome documents the full-size option, but the scroll-first step is a practical way to prompt lazy content—not an official guarantee that every page’s deferred content will appear. The Command Menu shortcuts are documented in Chrome DevTools’ Command Menu guide.

When DevTools needs a different approach

Inner-scroll panels and virtualized content

If the page contains a list that scrolls inside its own panel, scrolling the main document may not load the list items. Scroll the panel itself and verify what the capture includes. Virtualized interfaces may remove off-screen items from the page as you move through them, so a single full-page screenshot may not contain the entire list.

Infinite feeds, carousels, and sticky headers

An infinite feed has no fixed end, so decide which range you need before capturing. Carousels may show only the currently selected items. Sticky headers can appear in repeated or unexpected positions in a tall capture; inspect the output and consider capturing separate sections if the result is hard to read.

Other Chrome options and loading diagnostics

Try a scroll-aware extension carefully

The Chrome Web Store listing for FullPageShot advertises a full-page capture mode that handles lazy-loaded images. That is the extension publisher’s claim, not an independently established result for every site. Test the output on the page you need, and review the listing’s permissions and privacy information before installing.

Use Network screenshots to investigate timing

Chrome DevTools’ Network panel can record screenshots during page loading. Enable Capture screenshots in Network settings, then reload with the panel focused. The thumbnails can help show what appeared at different points in the loading timeline and alongside requests. This is a diagnostic aid, not a replacement for a final full-page screenshot. See Chrome DevTools Network reference.

Troubleshooting missing content

  • Images are absent: Scroll through the page again, pause as each new section appears, wait briefly at the bottom, and recapture. Some pages may still defer or fail to load content.
  • A list is incomplete: Check whether the list has its own scroll area or uses virtualization. Scroll the relevant panel and capture a defined portion; an unbounded feed cannot be represented in one complete finite image.
  • Content appears only after waiting: Give the page time to settle after scrolling. Use Network-panel screenshots to investigate when content or requests appear, while keeping in mind those thumbnails are not the final full-page capture.
  • The screenshot is difficult to read: Inspect sticky elements and long-page layout. Capture sections separately if a single tall image obscures detail or repeats fixed interface elements.

ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API: ScreenshotNeo. Its capture workflow accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server lets AI agents use its screenshot tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

For API options and parameter details, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. Example cURL request (replace the URL with your target page):
