The latest dated reports in the available evidence show different prices, so check Amazon’s live listing, seller and condition before treating $298—or 25% off—as today’s deal.
Is the Sony WH-1000XM5 $298 Amazon deal still available?
That price is documented as a past offer, not a verified current Amazon price. TechRadar’s 2025 Prime Day deal page listed the headphones for $298, down from $399, and described the reduction as 25%. The arithmetic is a $101 saving, or about 25.3% of $399, which explains the rounded claim.

Later dated coverage shows why the old listing should not be treated as current: TechRadar reported a separate $198 Amazon Labor Day price on September 3, 2026. Sony’s US store displayed $299.99, reduced from $399.99, when its product page was accessed in 2026. Those are different offers from different retailers and dates; none establishes Amazon’s present price.
To evaluate a live offer, compare the current Amazon price with the same model and a like-for-like reference price. Check the seller, color, condition, stock and any stated offer end date on the listing. An old deal report cannot establish those details for today.

What the WH-1000XM5 offers
The WH-1000XM5 is a closed, dynamic, over-ear wireless headphone with noise canceling. Sony describes its system as using two processors and eight microphones for noise cancellation and call quality; that is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent performance measurement.
- Playback: Sony specifies up to 30 hours of continuous music playback with noise canceling on, or up to 40 hours with it off. Actual playback varies with settings and conditions.
- Wireless audio: Bluetooth 5.2 with SBC, AAC and LDAC codec support. The device at the other end must support the codec you want to use.
- Weight: Approximately 8.82 oz, according to Sony.
- Listening and controls: Sony lists Ambient Sound, Quick Attention and Auto NC Optimizer, along with a stereo mini jack and detachable single-sided cable.
- In the box: A carrying case, connection cable and USB cable.
Sony’s specification sheet also includes technical transfer-range and frequency-response figures. Those specifications do not, by themselves, establish how the headphones will sound to an individual listener.

Is it a good fit for your needs?
Consider it if you want wireless noise canceling
The model combines over-ear construction, noise canceling, ambient-sound features and up to 30 hours of manufacturer-rated music playback with noise canceling enabled. Those are the documented features to weigh against the price you can actually get today.
Check codec support before paying for LDAC
The headphones support LDAC as well as SBC and AAC, but codec support on the headphones alone does not guarantee LDAC playback: your source device and listening setup also matter.

Think about how you will carry them
TechRadar’s September 2026 coverage notes that the WH-1000XM5 lacks folding hinges. If compact packing is important, compare its carrying shape with alternatives such as Sony’s WH-1000XM4 or WH-1000XM6 before buying. The available evidence does not establish a head-to-head performance winner among these models.

- Open the Amazon listing and confirm it is the WH-1000XM5, not a different model or configuration.
- Check the displayed price, seller, stock, color and condition, plus any end date shown for the offer.
- Compare that listing with Sony’s direct price and other current listings for the same model and condition; do not use a past deal price as the current reference.
- Decide whether the live price suits your budget and priorities, including noise canceling, codec compatibility and portability.
Without a live Amazon check, it is not possible to confirm that the headphones currently cost $298 there or that a 25% discount is available.
