Android’s battery screen can point you to an app worth investigating, but the four permissions in this title aren’t specified, so there’s no reliable basis for naming a particular four or claiming they caused the drain. Background location is one permission-related behavior worth reviewing because it can affect battery life.
Start with Battery Usage, not a permissions checklist
On Android, open Settings > Battery > Battery Usage and look for apps or features with unusually high use. Android’s battery guidance recommends this screen for identifying what is consuming power. It narrows down where to investigate; it does not prove that a permission caused the drain.

Menu wording and availability vary by Android version and manufacturer. If your phone’s labels differ, look in Settings for Battery and then battery use or usage by app rather than assuming every Android device follows the same path.

Check what a high-use app does in the background
If one app stands out, consider whether it needs to keep working when it is not on screen. On supported Pixel phones, Google’s battery troubleshooting instructions describe opening Settings > Battery > Battery usage, selecting an app, and reviewing Allow background usage. Google recommends leaving Optimized enabled for all apps.

Use a change only when it fits the app’s role and the feature you want. Navigation, safety, fitness, and location-sharing apps may need background activity for functions you rely on. Google cautions that force-stopping essential apps or services can make the phone work incorrectly, so don’t treat every background process as unnecessary. Some steps in Google’s instructions apply only to Android 14 and later, and the battery diagnostics it describes are available on Pixel 6 and later; those qualifications apply to Pixel guidance, not all Android phones.
Review background location when it makes sense
Background location is a plausible setting to investigate when an app’s use of location after you leave it open is not needed for its purpose. Android Developers says, “Background location usage can significantly impact battery life.” The same guidance notes that most location use cases need access only while someone is engaging with the app. A location permission by itself, however, does not establish that the app caused a particular phone’s battery drain.

For apps running in the background, Android 8.0 (API level 26) and later limit location updates to a few times each hour, according to the Android background-location documentation. That limit is not a battery-savings estimate and does not mean background location has no effect.
Choose the least location access that still supports the feature you actually want. Google Play policy expects background access to support an app’s core functionality and provide significant user benefit, rather than being requested solely for advertising or analytics. For a specific app, consider whether location while closed is necessary for the feature you use; a blanket change could disable expected navigation, tracking, or sharing behavior.

What the “four permissions” claim can—and can’t—tell you
The title does not identify the four permissions, the phone model, or its Android version. There is no reliable published figure here assigning a battery-drain amount to each of four unspecified permissions. Treat permission review as a way to check whether an app is doing something you want, not as proof that four permissions explain the problem.
Google has also introduced a separate app-quality measure for developers. In a March 2026 Android Developers Blog post, Alice Yuan said Google Play Store began rolling out wake-lock technical quality treatments on March 1, 2026. The post defines a bad-behavior threshold as holding a non-exempted partial wake lock for at least two hours on average while the screen is off in more than 5% of user sessions over the past 28 days. Audio playback, location access, and user-initiated data transfer may be exempt when they provide clear user benefits that cannot be further optimized. This is a developer quality metric, not a consumer estimate of how much battery a permission uses or evidence about your phone’s drain. Read Google’s Android Developers post.
