On a supported Samsung Galaxy device, open the Quick Panel, tap Screen recorder, choose the sound and display options shown, then tap Start recording. After the three-second countdown, record your activity and use the floating toolbar to pause or stop. Find the finished video in Gallery, usually in the Screen recordings folder.
Start a screen recording from Quick Panel
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Panel. On some devices, swipe down twice to see all buttons.
- Tap Screen recorder. If prompted, choose the sound option and any other controls available on your device.
- Tap Start recording. Samsung documents a three-second countdown before the recording begins.
- Use the floating toolbar to pause or stop. The completed recording is saved to Gallery.
If you do not see Screen recorder, open the Quick Panel’s edit controls and add the button from the available buttons list. The exact edit control and wording can vary by model and software.

Choose sound and display controls
The options shown depend on your Galaxy model and software. Pick the controls that fit the recording rather than assuming every device has the same menu:
- Sound: Choose no sound for a silent demonstration, media sound for audio from the app, or media sound and microphone when you want app audio alongside your narration. The labels and available combinations can differ.
- Touch indicators: If offered, show taps to make an instructional recording easier to follow; hide them for a cleaner gameplay or demonstration clip.
- Recording area: Some versions let you record the full screen or select an area.
- Selfie video: If available, enable the front-camera overlay and adjust its size for a tutorial or reaction clip.
- Video quality: Higher quality can make fine details easier to see, while a lower setting can reduce file size.
Change the recorder’s default settings
On many Galaxy devices, open Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recordings. Depending on the model and software, the final menu may be called Screenshots and screen recorder. Settings may include sound, video quality, selfie-video size, and the save location. Samsung’s instructions do not establish that every option appears on every device.

Find the saved video
Open Gallery and look for the Screen recordings folder. Samsung Ireland documents the default file path as Internal storage > DCIM > Screen recordings; the location can be changed in Screen recorder settings. If the clip is not in that folder, check the save-location setting on your device.
Check compatibility and recording limits
Screen recording is a built-in Galaxy feature, so Samsung says it can be used without installing a separate app. Availability still depends on the exact model, regional variant, and software. Samsung Gulf describes support on Galaxy devices with One UI 2 or later and gives S, Z, and A families as examples; Samsung’s Ireland and Australia support information also cautions that support varies. Check the current support information for your precise model if the recorder is missing.

Samsung Ireland’s version guidance distinguishes Android 10 with One UI 2.5, for which it states a limit of one hour or 4 GB, from Android 11 with One UI 3.0 or later, for which it states no recording-time or file-size limit. These statements do not guarantee a recording of that length: available storage, app restrictions, and device-specific behavior can still constrain a capture.
When a screen recording will not capture content
Some photos and videos are protected by copyright controls that block screen recording. If a protected item appears black or is omitted, the recorder may be working as intended; there is no supported workaround established by Samsung’s guidance. Try recording a different, unprotected screen to check the feature.
