WhatsApp does not offer a universal timer for ordinary personal chats on Android. You have three different paths: WhatsApp Business can schedule certain paid marketing messages; WhatsApp Business away messages reply only after a customer contacts you; and third-party Android schedulers can attempt an outbound message by operating the WhatsApp interface through Accessibility Services.
For a personal message, the practical method is an accessibility-based scheduler. It must be installed and configured correctly, and the phone must be powered on, connected, logged in to WhatsApp, and allowed to run at the selected time. Treat the automation as a best-effort UI action rather than a guaranteed delivery system.

What WhatsApp can schedule natively
The word “schedule” covers different WhatsApp features. Choosing the wrong one is the most common reason a scheduled message never behaves as expected.

WhatsApp’s official business workflow lets an eligible business choose an audience, review the applicable price, select Schedule, and set a date and time for a marketing message. The phone still needs a connection when the message is due. If it is offline, WhatsApp may retry according to its service behavior.

This is a paid marketing workflow for businesses. It is not evidence that the standard consumer app can schedule any text to a friend, family member, group, or personal broadcast list.
WhatsApp Business away messages
In WhatsApp Business on Android, open Tools, choose Away message, enable it, select a schedule, choose recipients, and save. The available schedule choices are generally Always send, a Custom schedule, or Outside business hours.
An away message is reactive: it is sent when a customer messages the business during the configured period. It does not initiate an ordinary outbound conversation at a future time. It is therefore useful for coverage notices, but not for sending “Happy birthday” to a contact at midnight.
Personal-chat scheduling
For ordinary one-to-one chats and groups, the Android WhatsApp app has no general, built-in send-later control documented by the evidence available for this guide. A third-party app must either display its own supported integration or drive WhatsApp’s visible interface.
How Android automation schedulers send a WhatsApp message
Accessibility schedulers do not normally inject a message into a private WhatsApp server API. They save the text and recipient, wait for the chosen time, open WhatsApp on your phone, and use Android Accessibility Services to tap controls and enter the message. SKEDit describes its method as using Accessibility Services “to automate sending of messages created by the user, at the scheduled time.”
Because the app is operating the screen, the result depends on the state of the phone and WhatsApp. A changed button layout, a locked screen, an unexpected dialog, or a disabled permission can stop the sequence. This is fundamentally different from a cloud queue that sends while your phone is off.

- WhatsApp session: WhatsApp must be installed, updated, logged in, and able to open the intended chat.
- Power and network: Keep the phone on and connected to the internet at the send time. SKEDit’s documentation states that “the phone has to be on and online at the send time.”
- Accessibility permission: Grant the service only if you understand that it can interact with visible content and controls.
- Battery settings: Exclude the scheduler from battery-saving restrictions when its documentation requires that. Aggressive optimization can suspend the app before the alarm fires.
- Alarm access: If the scheduler requests exact-alarm access, review the Android setting and the reason it needs it rather than granting unrelated permissions.
- Screen and lock behavior: Confirm whether the app requires the device to be unlocked or the display to be available. Do not assume a screen macro can work through every lock-screen configuration.
- Privacy disclosures: Read the Google Play data-safety section and the developer’s privacy policy before giving an accessibility service access to a phone containing private chats.
Step-by-step: schedule a personal WhatsApp message
1. Choose an app with a clearly documented method
Search Google Play for a reputable Android scheduler and check its recent update history, permissions, data-safety disclosures, support documentation, and user reports. Prefer an app that explains exactly why it needs Accessibility Services and how it handles message content. Avoid an installer that asks for broad permissions unrelated to scheduling.
SKEDit is one example of this category. Its listing says it can schedule messages to contacts, groups, broadcast lists, and status, with recurring schedules and attachments. Those capabilities are claims for that app and can change; verify the current listing before relying on a feature.
2. Install, open, and complete the scheduler’s setup
Install the app from Google Play, create or sign in to its account if required, and select WhatsApp as the service. Read each permission screen. A scheduler that uses the accessibility route will send you to Android’s Accessibility settings, where you enable the named service and confirm the warning.
Only enable the service for the scheduler you selected. If you later stop using it, turn the service off in Android Settings rather than leaving it active indefinitely.

3. Configure timing and battery access
Allow notifications from the scheduler so you can see a pending, failed, or confirmation state. If the app documents a battery-exemption step, open the battery settings from its guide and remove the app from optimization. On some phones this setting is under Apps, Battery, or Background usage; the label varies by manufacturer.
If Android shows an Alarms & reminders permission, decide whether exact timing is worth the additional system access. Android Developers notes that apps targeting Android 12 or later need this access for exact alarms. For fresh installs of apps targeting Android 13 (API level 33) and higher, SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM is not pre-granted.
4. Create a one-time message
In the scheduler, choose WhatsApp, select a contact or group, type the complete message, and set the date and local time. Check the recipient name carefully, especially when contacts have similar names or when a group and an individual share a title.

If the app offers a Confirm before sending option, use it for your first test. Confirmation improves control but may require you to tap a prompt at the scheduled time; it is not suitable if you expect a completely unattended send.
5. Decide whether to attach media
Add a photo, document, or other attachment only if the scheduler explicitly supports that file type. Keep the source file on the phone until the send completes. A moved, deleted, or inaccessible file can cause an otherwise valid text schedule to fail.
6. Run a low-risk test
Schedule a short message to yourself or a willing contact for a few minutes ahead. Leave the phone powered on and online, then verify both the WhatsApp conversation and the scheduler’s completion status. A test reveals whether your phone’s battery manager, lock screen, accessibility permission, or notification prompts interfere.
7. Create the real schedule
After the test succeeds, create the intended message and review the summary screen. Confirm the exact date, time zone, recipient, message text, recurrence, and attachment. Save the schedule and keep the phone in a state that permits the app to operate.
8. Keep a fallback for important messages
For a medication reminder, appointment notice, or time-sensitive work message, set a separate manual reminder. This is operational risk management, not a guarantee that either method will deliver. Do not schedule a high-consequence message once and then assume it has been sent without checking.

Tasker and MacroDroid are general Android automation tools. Their ability to send a WhatsApp message depends on the actions, plugins, and permissions you configure; the evidence here does not establish a universal native WhatsApp scheduling action in either app.
If an automation tool cannot expose a supported WhatsApp action, it must resort to a UI sequence similar to an accessibility scheduler: open WhatsApp, locate the chat, type the text, and activate Send. Such a sequence can require the display to be available, can be interrupted by another notification or dialog, and can break when WhatsApp changes its interface.

For a one-off personal message, a scheduler whose documentation explicitly supports WhatsApp is usually simpler than building a screen macro from scratch. Use Tasker or MacroDroid when you need a broader trigger—such as a calendar event or device condition—and are prepared to test the complete WhatsApp interaction on your own phone.
Why a scheduled time is not a delivery guarantee
Android’s alarm system can wake or launch an app, but an alarm firing is only one stage of the process. The scheduler still has to open WhatsApp, find the right conversation, enter the text, and complete the send action while the phone and network are usable.

Exact alarms have trade-offs. Android Developers warns that they can consume substantial battery and system resources. Repeating alarms have another limitation: on Android 4.4 and later, repeating alarms are inexact, so a recurring schedule may run around the selected time rather than at the exact second. A timer event and a recipient seeing a delivered message are therefore separate outcomes.

Troubleshooting missed or incorrect sends

Privacy, consent, and WhatsApp account risk
An accessibility service can interact with what is displayed on the screen. Depending on the implementation, that may expose chat names, message text, notifications, and buttons to the automation app. Read the developer’s disclosures, install only from a trusted source, and avoid granting access to an app whose data practices you cannot understand.
Schedule messages only for people who expect to hear from you. SKEDit’s documentation tells users to follow WhatsApp’s rules and avoid unsolicited bulk sends. High-volume or unwanted automation can create privacy complaints, spam reports, or account enforcement risk. A feature that can target groups, broadcast lists, status, or recurring campaigns is not a reason to message people without consent.
Turn off the accessibility service when you no longer need the scheduler. Review recurring tasks periodically, remove old recipients, and delete sensitive message drafts from the scheduler if its policy allows you to manage stored data.

Do not assume that every Android scheduler supports every WhatsApp destination. Compare the actual app version and plan you intend to use.

SKEDit’s published limits and prices
SKEDit’s current vendor documentation says it supports Android 8.0 or later and requires the phone to be on and online at send time. Its US pricing page lists a free tier limited to five waiting messages, Pro at $4.99 per month or $26.99 per year, and Max at $8.99 per month or $59.99 per year. These prices and limits are volatile; check the live listing before subscribing.
The vendor states that SKEDit has more than 5.5 million downloads across 174 countries. Its Google Play listing claims more than five million users, over 50 million messages sent, and more than one million scheduled monthly. Those are vendor-stated figures, not an independent reliability measurement, so they should not replace a test on your device.
How to manage, cancel, or audit schedules
Edit before the send time
Open the scheduler’s pending-task list, select the message, and change the recipient, text, attachment, or time. Save the edit and check that only one copy of the task remains.

Cancel a one-time message
Delete or disable the pending task in the scheduler before its trigger time. Then verify that it no longer appears in the pending list. If the app has a separate WhatsApp queue, clear that entry as well.
Stop a recurring schedule
Pause or delete the recurrence, not just the next occurrence. Review the schedule after changing it so that a weekly or daily copy cannot continue unnoticed.
Audit automation regularly
At least once a month, review recurring recipients, message text, attachments, permissions, and the scheduler’s recent activity. Re-test after an Android, WhatsApp, or scheduler update, because UI automation depends on interface details that can change.

For any third-party route, start with a harmless test, keep a manual reminder for important communications, and inspect the app’s permissions and privacy terms before scheduling real conversations.
