Use browser automation to find and scroll to the section, capture the view or the section itself, then use a scheduler to run the script at your chosen times. The example below uses Playwright: it waits for a target heading, scrolls it into view, and saves a timestamped screenshot. The scheduler is a separate choice; its setup depends on your platform and timezone.
Choose what the screenshot should contain
First decide whether you want the visible page around a section, a crop of the section, or the entire page. These are different captures: Playwright documents viewport and full-page screenshots as well as screenshots of a locator. Playwright screenshot documentation

- Viewport: shows the browser’s visible area after scrolling to the section. Choose this when context above or below the section matters.
- Element: captures the matched section itself. Choose this for a compact image of a specific component.
- Full page: captures the whole scrollable document. This is not the same as a viewport positioned at the section and may produce a very tall image.
Use a stable locator, such as a unique heading or test attribute, rather than a fixed scroll distance. Layout changes can move a section, while a good locator continues to identify it.

Run a scheduled Playwright capture
This Node.js example captures the viewport after scrolling a heading into view. It uses the heading “Pricing” as an example; change the URL and accessible heading name to match your page. Install Node.js, then create a project and install Playwright with its Chromium browser:

Schedule the script
A scheduler starts the script; Playwright performs the navigation and capture. Choose a runner based on its recurrence and timezone controls, whether it can install or run a browser, how it handles secrets for authenticated pages, where files are stored, retention, failure alerts, and cost. Those details differ by provider and can change, so check the scheduler’s current official documentation before relying on a particular schedule format or quota.

Keep the output and page state usable
- Choose a destination that persists beyond the runner’s job lifetime. A file saved on a temporary runner may not be available later unless you explicitly store or publish it.
- Include a timestamp or other unique identifier in each filename so later captures do not overwrite earlier ones.
- For meaningful comparisons, keep the browser, viewport, device scale, authentication state, and capture timing consistent. Changing page content or environment can change pixels; the cited browser documentation does not promise identical images across machines.
- For private pages, provide credentials through the scheduler’s secret mechanism rather than committing them in the script. Confirm that the site permits automated access.
- Choose a readiness signal that represents the actual content you need. A heading becoming visible may not mean charts, images, or other asynchronously loaded content have finished rendering.

Choose between Puppeteer and Playwright based on the ecosystem and locator style you already use, as well as whether you need a viewport, element, or full-page result. Both can automate the capture step; neither replaces the external scheduler.
Troubleshoot missed or misleading captures
The script times out waiting for the section
- Check that the page loaded the expected URL and that the heading text matches exactly, including punctuation or capitalization.
- Prefer a unique accessible heading or stable test attribute. A positional selector can point to the wrong element after a page redesign.
- If the page requires sign-in, establish the authenticated state before waiting for the locator.
The screenshot is blank, incomplete, or shows a loading state
- Wait for the actual content signal, not just the document navigation event. The example waits for a heading; replace or extend that condition if the page’s important content loads later.
- For lazy-loaded images or content triggered by scrolling, scroll the relevant region and wait for the content you need before capturing.
- Check whether a bot check or other access restriction is blocking the browser. Do not assume a screenshot of the challenge is the intended page.
The section is found but the image frames the wrong area
- For context around the section, scroll its locator into view and capture the page viewport.
- For a tight crop, use the locator’s screenshot method.
- For the entire document, use full-page capture. These output types are not interchangeable.
- If sticky navigation or animations affect the result, wait for the page to settle and keep the viewport and timing consistent across runs.
The scheduled job runs but the image is missing
- Verify the job’s working directory and output path, then configure durable storage if the runner does not retain local files.
- Review the runner’s logs for browser installation, navigation, selector, or authentication failures.
- Confirm the schedule’s timezone, recurrence rules, and retention behavior in that provider’s current documentation; these are environment-specific.

Can I schedule a screenshot without keeping my computer on?
Yes. Run the script on a hosted runner or server that starts it on a schedule; confirm that it can run the browser and preserve or upload the resulting file.
Will every scheduled screenshot be pixel-identical?
No. Page content, browser environment, viewport, timing, and rendering can vary. Keep the environment consistent when comparing captures, but identical pixels are not guaranteed.
