You can schedule a YouTube Live event in YouTube Studio, then use OBS Studio to send a prerecorded video to it on repeat. Scheduling creates the event page; the encoder supplies the video feed and loops the file. YouTube does not turn an uploaded video into a looping live event by itself.
Before you schedule: check that your channel can stream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the event. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16. Check the YouTube live-streaming eligibility requirements if the option is unavailable or your channel’s status is unclear.

Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open Manage.
- Create the scheduled stream. Select Schedule Stream. You can reuse settings from an earlier stream or create a new one.
- Set the event details. Enter a title, description, visibility, scheduled time and other relevant metadata. If the event is public, share its scheduled page so viewers can find it and set reminders.
- Keep the event’s connection details private. You will need the stream URL and stream key in OBS unless you use a direct YouTube connection. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
Scheduling makes an event page and allows promotion and reminders; it does not start the video or make it repeat. An encoder must send the feed. See YouTube’s encoder and scheduling guidance.

Make a single video loop in OBS Studio
- Create a scene. In OBS, add or select a scene for the stream.
- Add the video file. In the Sources box, select + and choose Media Source. Name the source, then select the local video file.
- Enable repetition. Turn on Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS will repeat the file when playback reaches its end.
- Check the picture and sound. Confirm the video fits the canvas as intended and that audio plays at an appropriate level. Test the full file, including its ending and the transition back to the beginning.
OBS Media Source supports common local video formats. For the available properties and details, consult the OBS Media Sources guide. Keep the file available at the path OBS uses; moving or removing it can break playback.

Looping a playlist instead
If you want several files to play in sequence, add a VLC Video source in OBS and configure its playlist and loop controls. This option requires VLC to be installed. Check the playlist order and test the transition between files before going live.
Connect OBS to the scheduled event
- Set the YouTube connection. In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Use the YouTube integration if available, or choose a custom streaming service and enter the scheduled event’s stream URL and key from YouTube Studio.
- Choose the feed settings. Set a resolution and bitrate your internet connection can sustain reliably. YouTube recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed 4 seconds. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions for its current recommendations.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm that the video and audio appear in YouTube Live Control Room and that the stream-health status is acceptable.
- Start the event as configured. Depending on the event’s auto-start setting, you may need to select Go Live in Live Control Room after the preview arrives. A scheduled start time alone does not guarantee that an encoder feed is running.
Test ahead and plan for reliability
YouTube advises preparing the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Use a representative section of the video to check motion, sound, framing and the return to the beginning; then monitor the stream-health messages. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

With the OBS method, the computer must stay powered and connected, OBS must keep sending the feed, and the local file must remain accessible. These are practical dependencies of using an encoder and a local Media Source. A stable upload connection matters too: choose a bitrate that leaves headroom rather than pushing the connection to its limit.

Copyright, reused content and channel rules
Only stream material you have the rights or permission to use. A live encoder does not make copyrighted music, video or other content safe to broadcast. YouTube’s monetization rules are separate from the technical ability to go live: looping or replaying material does not, by itself, establish eligibility for monetization. Review the applicable YouTube policies for your channel and content before scheduling.

Choose a setup that fits the way you will run the stream

For a single loop, OBS is a straightforward software option if an existing computer can stay on. A playlist adds a VLC dependency. Dedicated hardware may suit a different deployment, but it is not needed just to repeat one file.
Plan for long streams and archives
YouTube can automatically archive a live stream shorter than 12 hours. It warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube to provide a complete replay of an all-day or continuous stream. If a full recording matters, arrange a local recording backup and consider ending and restarting in separate segments. Check YouTube’s archive guidance for current details.

Troubleshooting common problems
- Live Control Room has no preview: Confirm OBS is streaming to the scheduled event’s correct URL and key, and that the encoder has started. Check for a typo or an outdated key before changing other settings.
- The video plays once and stops: Reopen the Media Source properties and verify Loop is enabled. For a playlist, check the VLC Video source’s loop setting.
- The source is missing or blank: Confirm the local file still exists at the selected path and that OBS can access it. If the file was moved, select it again in the source properties.
- Audio or video stutters: Check YouTube’s stream-health messages, then reduce the bitrate or output resolution if the connection or computer cannot sustain the current settings. Test again with representative motion and sound.
- The stream is visible but the event has not started: Check whether auto-start is enabled. If it is not, start the event in Live Control Room after the encoder preview appears.
- Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification, any live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and whether first-time activation is still pending.
