Schedule the YouTube Live event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder or playback system to send and sequence the lesson videos. YouTube’s documented scheduling workflow creates the event; it does not establish a native feature for rotating a playlist inside one broadcast. Treat these as two separate jobs: YouTube handles the event, and your playback setup handles the lessons.
What YouTube scheduling does—and does not do
A scheduled event gives your audience a planned live-stream page that can be shared in advance and may appear as upcoming for subscribers, who can opt to be notified. The actual video and audio feed comes from an encoder connected to YouTube with the event’s stream URL and key.

YouTube’s Help pages on creating an encoder stream and managing live-stream settings describe scheduling, encoder connection, and stream settings. They do not document playlist rotation within a broadcast. You therefore need a separate playback workflow to determine which lessons play, in what order, whether they repeat, and what happens between files.

Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open the scheduling controls: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream. Reuse a prior event’s settings or create a new event.
- Set the event details: Review the title, privacy, start time, and other stream metadata before saving. Share the scheduled watch page with learners so they can find the event in advance.
- Check the stream settings: In Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and key for the event. YouTube describes the key as the credential an encoder uses to send the feed. Keep it private, and enter it only in the playback or encoder system you intend to use.
Prepare the lesson rotation in your playback setup
Configure the sequence outside the YouTube scheduling form. Before choosing or configuring a tool, check its documentation for the media sources and encoder workflow your channel uses; the YouTube scheduling guidance does not verify any particular third-party playlist tool or its repeat behavior.

- Order: Decide which lessons play first and how the sequence proceeds.
- Repeat behavior: Determine whether the full playlist repeats, whether individual lessons repeat, or whether playback stops at the end.
- Transitions and gaps: Check what viewers will see or hear between lessons and what happens if a file is missing or unavailable.
- Timed operation and recovery: Confirm how the playback setup starts at the intended time, what happens if its connection drops, and how you will know whether the feed has stopped.
These are decisions for the selected encoder or playback workflow, not settings established by YouTube’s event-scheduling pages. Test the complete lesson sequence and its handoff to YouTube before relying on it for a live event.
Preflight and start the scheduled stream
- Prepare early: YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. These are YouTube’s published recommendations; they are not guarantees that a particular setup will connect successfully.
- Connect the feed: Enter the event’s stream URL and key in the encoder or playback system, then start sending the lesson feed.
- Check the preview: In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview. Verify the picture and sound before starting the public event.
- Start the event: At the scheduled time, select Go live in Live Control Room after the preview is available. Monitor the live feed after launch.
- End both sides: When the event is over, end it in YouTube and stop sending the feed from the encoder.
YouTube offers optional auto-start and auto-stop settings. Confirm the settings for the selected event and test the behavior with your chosen encoder before depending on an unattended start or stop.

Copyright, lesson rights, and the replay
Before streaming, make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast every lesson, including any music, excerpts, images, or other material within it. Scheduling an event or placing a video in a rotation does not itself establish that you have permission to stream its contents. Review YouTube’s current rules for the material and use on your channel.

YouTube’s encoder-stream guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the resulting recording in Studio after the event. Do not assume a stream longer than that stated limit will be saved as one automatically archived replay.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and rotation problems
- No incoming preview: Check that the encoder is sending to the correct event’s stream URL and that you used its matching stream key. Confirm that the encoder is running, then wait for the preview in Live Control Room.
- The event is scheduled, but no lesson plays: Scheduling does not supply the lesson feed. Check that the playback system is running, that the intended media is available, and that its output is connected to the encoder workflow.
- The wrong lesson plays or the sequence does not repeat: Review the order and repeat settings in the playback system. YouTube’s scheduling controls do not establish playlist order or looping behavior.
- The stream is live but audio or video is missing: Check the incoming preview before selecting Go live, then monitor the broadcast after launch. If the preview itself is wrong, troubleshoot the playback output and encoder before starting the event.
- An unattended start or stop does not happen as expected: Review the event’s auto-start and auto-stop settings and test them with the selected encoder rather than relying on an untested configuration.
- The replay is unavailable: Check the stream duration and the resulting recording in Studio; YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior applies to streams under 12 hours.
