Loki handles screenshot capture and visual comparison; the reviewed Loki documentation does not describe a built-in time scheduler or prescribe schedule syntax for a particular CI service.
What Loki schedules—and what it does not
Loki is used for visual regression testing of Storybook: it captures component screenshots and compares them with reference images. Its CI guidance shows building a static Storybook and running Loki against it. Recurrence is a separate concern: configure the scheduler in your chosen CI provider to start that workflow. Loki’s CI documentation does not establish provider-specific cron syntax, recurrence limits, or a native Loki timer.

This is a Storybook testing workflow, not a general-purpose scheduler for arbitrary public websites. The CI job must make the Storybook build or server available to Loki; Loki does not start that server for you. The Loki project documentation lists Chrome in Docker, Chrome in AWS Lambda, local Chrome, and iOS and Android simulators among execution targets; check the current project documentation for compatibility with your setup.
Prepare Loki references before scheduling recurring checks
- Make Storybook available. Configure the CI job to build Storybook or start the server Loki will use. Loki does not provision or launch it automatically.
- Create initial reference screenshots. Use Loki’s
updateworkflow to generate references, then review them. The CLI also provides anapprovecommand for managing references; consult the CLI documentation for current command details. - Keep references accessible to CI. Commit the approved reference images or otherwise make them available to the scheduled job so comparisons use the intended baseline.
- Run a test before enabling recurrence. Confirm the CI environment can build Storybook, launch the required browser target, find the references, and produce current screenshots and differences.
Configure the scheduled CI workflow
Set the recurrence in the scheduler for your CI provider, then have that scheduled workflow build Storybook and invoke Loki in test mode. Loki’s CI example uses a static build and the following command pattern:
#1 Best Overall
- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
loki --requireReference --reactUri file:./storybook-static
Adapt the invocation to the installed Loki version and your project’s package scripts. The --reactUri file:./storybook-static argument points Loki at the static Storybook output in this example. --requireReference makes the run fail if a reference image is missing, rather than treating an absent baseline as an ordinary comparison. See the CI example and CLI reference before adopting exact command details.
The reviewed Loki documentation does not specify a CI provider’s schedule syntax. Use the selected provider’s current documentation for configuring timed runs and any manual-dispatch option. A useful schedule should also account for who will inspect failures and whether the workflow can run with the permissions and resources it needs.

Read test results without silently changing the baseline
Loki’s test command captures screenshots and compares them with references. By default, its CLI documentation names these output directories:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Output | Default directory | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Reference screenshots | ./.loki/reference |
The baseline images used for comparison. |
| Current screenshots | ./.loki/current |
The images produced by the current test run. |
| Differences | ./.loki/difference |
Visual changes to inspect when a comparison fails. |
These locations are documented in the Loki CLI guide. Preserve current screenshots and differences as CI artifacts if your provider supports it, and choose retention settings according to your review needs; Loki’s cited CLI documentation does not prescribe an artifact retention period.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
A scheduled test should report changes, not silently bless them. Inspect the differences, determine whether the visual change is expected, and only then use Loki’s reference-management workflow to update or approve the baseline. The getting-started guide covers the reference workflow.
Make recurring runs reproducible
Scheduled checks are useful only when the environment can reproduce the comparison. Keep the Storybook build, reference images, browser target, and relevant runtime configuration consistent between runs. Account for external dependencies that can change what Storybook renders, and avoid treating every difference as a product regression without reviewing the images.

- CURVED FOR ENHANCED ENGAGEMENT: An immersive viewing experience with a curved monitor that wraps more closely around your field of vision; It creates a wider view, enhancing depth perception and minimizing peripheral distraction
- SMOOTH PERFORMANCE FOR SEAMLESS CONTENT: Stay in the action when playing games, watching videos, or working on creative projects; The 100Hz refresh rate reduces lag and motion blur so you don't miss a thing in fast-paced moments¹
- MORE GAMING POWER: Gain the edge with optimizable game settings; Color and image contrast can be adjusted to see scenes more vividly and spot enemies hiding in the dark; Game Mode adjusts any game to fill the screen so you can view every detail²
- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
When choosing a CI setup, check whether it supports the recurrence and manual runs you need, whether it can reliably build or reach Storybook, how consistently it runs the browser environment, how it retains screenshots and diffs, and how reviewers approve intentional baseline changes. The Loki repository documents several execution targets, but compatibility can change, so verify the current documentation for your chosen target.

Troubleshoot common scheduled-run failures
- Loki cannot reach Storybook: The build or server may not have completed, or the URI may not point to the output location. Ensure the workflow makes Storybook available before invoking Loki and verify the URI, including
file:./storybook-staticwhen using the documented static-build pattern. - The run fails because a reference is missing: With
--requireReference, missing baselines cause failure. Generate and review the needed references using the update workflow, then make them accessible to CI. - Differences appear unexpectedly: Inspect the current and difference output directories. Check whether the Storybook content or test environment changed before approving a new baseline.
- The scheduled workflow does not start: Loki does not provide the timer in the reviewed documentation. Check the CI provider’s schedule configuration, recurrence rules, and workflow triggers in that provider’s current documentation.
- Browser execution fails in CI: Confirm that the selected Loki execution target is supported and correctly available in the job environment. Use the current Loki project documentation to validate target compatibility.
