Open Backup Plans to create a plan or select an existing one and review its details. The manual documents backups triggered when external storage is connected and Realtime Backup after file changes; check your installed version’s plan settings for any recurring schedule controls because the current manual does not enumerate their intervals.
Open or create a backup plan
Start in the Backup Plans area. Choose an existing plan to view or adjust its settings, including its storage location, or begin creating a new plan. The Backup Pro 27 manual describes the process as choosing files or drives, selecting storage, and setting plan options.

Choose the items to protect
A file-based plan can combine smart selection with manual selection, and the manual also describes exclusions. Select the folders or files you need rather than assuming that a plan covers every location on the computer. If you intend to protect an entire drive or partition, select that as the source where the plan options allow it.

Backup Pro 27 supports local and cloud destinations. A local external hard drive is a straightforward option if you want a physical copy under your control; check the drive’s partition or device size against Ashampoo’s stated limit before using it. Cloud storage avoids relying on a connected local drive, but requires the relevant account access. The manual says cloud login is generally handled through the standard browser, except for WebDAV.

Ashampoo’s product page advertises “Up to 30% faster cloud saves.” That is the vendor’s performance claim, not an independently verified result: Ashampoo Backup Pro product details.
Pick a backup format for access or efficiency
The manual describes two format trade-offs. One is more accessible in Windows Explorer but uses more storage and does not preserve extended file attributes. The more efficient format uses less space and retains extended attributes such as permissions and symlinks, but can be accessed only through Backup Pro.

Set automatic backup behavior
Review the automatic options in the plan’s settings. The version 27 manual documents two event-based behaviors, which serve different purposes:

- Intelligent audiobook detection, even for multi-part files
- Start when external storage is connected: use this for a plan intended to run when its external storage device is attached.
- Realtime Backup: back up after file changes, rather than waiting for a connected-storage event.
If you need a recurring time-based schedule, inspect the controls in your installed version instead of relying on an interval list from an earlier product version. The current version 27 manual does not establish which recurring intervals are available.

Ashampoo’s current system requirements list Windows 10 (x64) and Windows 11. ARM processor systems and Windows Server are unsupported. The same page says that partitions or storage devices sized at least 8 TB are unsupported, so verify the relevant partition or device size before configuring a destination. The page also lists 500 MB of available disk space for installation, internet access to activate the program, and full administrative rights.
Ashampoo’s media center lists Backup Pro 27 version 27.7.0, a release date of 2025-11-04, and an update release date of 2026-08-21.
Prepare for recovery, not just backup
Create rescue media separately as a bootable USB stick or disc. Ashampoo’s manual says recovery also requires a previous backup made with Backup Pro; rescue media by itself is not the backup. For its rescue scenario, the manual describes a full drive or partition backup as the ideal recovery source. Keep that backup available when you need to restore.
