How to Schedule a Wirecast Stream in YouTube Studio and Start It Automatically

Schedule the YouTube event, check Auto-start, link Wirecast to the correct stream, then start its encoder output and verify the preview.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To start a scheduled YouTube event automatically from Wirecast, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, enable its Auto-start setting, select that event in Wirecast, and start Wirecast’s stream output. Scheduling and sending the encoder feed are separate steps: the event is not ready to go live until Wirecast connects and sends video and audio.

Schedule the YouTube live event

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
  2. Open Manage, then choose Schedule stream. Create a new stream or reuse a previous stream’s settings.
  3. Review the event’s title, description, visibility, date and time, and other settings before saving. A scheduled stream can appear as upcoming, allowing viewers to opt in to reminders. See YouTube’s encoder setup and scheduling instructions.

Enable YouTube auto-start

Open the scheduled event’s stream settings and check Auto-start. YouTube says that with this setting enabled, you can start streaming from the encoder. You can also enable Auto-stop if you want the encoder to be able to stop the event. These are distinct controls; review each one according to how you plan to end the broadcast. See YouTube’s explanation of live stream settings.

If you reused settings from an earlier stream, verify Auto-start and Auto-stop rather than assuming they are enabled or disabled as intended: YouTube carries those selections over with the reused settings.

Connect Wirecast to the scheduled event

  1. In Wirecast, choose or configure the YouTube destination, then associate it with the scheduled event you just created. The exact menu sequence and labels depend on the installed Wirecast version and destination mode.
  2. Confirm that Wirecast is authorized for the correct YouTube account and that the selected event is the one you intend to broadcast.
  3. If the destination uses a server URL and stream key, copy both from YouTube’s stream setup into the matching Wirecast fields. YouTube requires the encoder to connect using the stream URL and key. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or expose it in a recording or screenshot.
  4. Look for the event-start option in Wirecast’s YouTube destination settings. Telestream’s Wirecast 11 Windows guide calls it Automatically Start Event; that documentation establishes the label for that release, not for every current version or operating system. Use the equivalent setting if present, and consult the Wirecast documentation index for your release if the interface differs. Telestream’s version history records changes and fixes to YouTube integration.

Start the encoder and verify the launch

  1. Set up and test the encoder ahead of the scheduled broadcast. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours in advance and starting them at least 15 minutes before the event; check your preview before starting and monitor stream health. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
  2. At the planned time, start Wirecast’s stream output. Check Live Control Room for the expected video and audio preview.
  3. With YouTube Auto-start and Wirecast’s event-start option enabled for the correct event, YouTube should start the event from the encoder feed. Confirm that Live Control Room shows the event as live and continue monitoring the stream health.

Choose automatic or manual launch

Workflow Start action What to check
Auto-start enabled Start Wirecast’s stream output; YouTube can start the event from the encoder feed. Auto-start is enabled on the selected event; Wirecast targets the correct destination and event; preview and stream health are correct.
Manual YouTube launch Start Wirecast output, confirm the preview, then select Go live in Live Control Room. Correct stream URL and key, preview, and manual launch at the scheduled time. Use this route if auto-start is off or the installed Wirecast version does not expose the expected control.

YouTube’s standard encoder workflow includes starting the encoder, waiting for the preview, and selecting Go live. Auto-start changes who triggers the public event; it does not remove the need to connect Wirecast and verify the feed. See the YouTube encoder guide and stream settings guide.

Troubleshoot a scheduled stream that does not start

  • No preview appears: Confirm Wirecast is sending output, is connected to the intended YouTube destination, and uses the scheduled event’s stream URL and key. Check that the encoder is sending video and audio.
  • Preview appears, but the event does not go live: Verify Auto-start on the selected YouTube event and the event-start setting in Wirecast. If the automatic option is unavailable or fails, use Go live in Live Control Room after checking the preview.
  • The wrong event or channel is selected: Check the authorized YouTube account and the event associated with Wirecast. A valid stream key can still send the feed to the wrong scheduled stream if it belongs to another event.
  • The controls or labels do not match: Wirecast’s documented automatic-start checkbox is from its version 11 Windows guide. Check the documentation for your installed release rather than assuming the historical label remains unchanged.
  • The scheduled time arrives before setup is complete: Use YouTube’s recommended lead time: configure early and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. Test the setup, review the preview, and monitor stream health.
