You can schedule the YouTube event in Switchboard Live, but Switchboard does not host or play the prerecorded playlist. You need an encoder that can play the video and send it to Switchboard; when the video is arriving, you manually start the scheduled event. Switchboard names OBS, Ecamm, and Switcher Studio as encoder examples. See its FAQ for the prerecorded-video limitation and check the current Help Center for the relevant setup details.
What Switchboard schedules—and what it does not
Switchboard’s Scheduled Events feature schedules the broadcast and can create a shareable YouTube event page. The prerecorded file still has to be played by an encoder and sent into the Switchboard workflow. Switchboard says it does not store prerecorded videos; it supports RTMP ingest. In other words, scheduling the event does not schedule playback of a video stored in Switchboard.

The encoder examples named by Switchboard are OBS, Ecamm, and Switcher Studio. Choose one that can play your prerecorded video or playlist and send its output to the Switchboard workflow. Keep the media available in the encoder environment: Switchboard does not archive the source video for you.
Workflow 1: Create the scheduled event in Switchboard
1. Prepare the encoder and media
Set up your chosen encoder to play the prerecorded video or playlist and send its stream to the Switchboard workflow. Have the media ready in that environment before the scheduled broadcast. Switchboard’s instructions do not specify a particular playlist format, encoder settings, or playback automation sequence, so use the encoder’s current documentation for those details.

2. Create and configure the event
- In the desired workflow, select Create New, then Scheduled Event. Alternatively, open the Events Page Manager and select New Event.
- Enter the event details, including its title, description, start date, and time. Add a thumbnail if desired.
- Add saved destinations or connect new ones, including YouTube, then save the event.
For YouTube Partner Destinations, Switchboard says it creates an event page. You can copy the event link from the workflow’s YouTube destination broadcast information or from the YouTube event page. Share that page with viewers before the broadcast if needed.
3. Send the encoder output and start the event
- At broadcast time, start the encoder so it plays the prerecorded content and sends video to the Switchboard workflow.
- Confirm that video is arriving in Switchboard.
- When the event is eligible to start, select Start Streaming to send the broadcast to the event’s destinations.
Switchboard’s Help Center says the Start Streaming button becomes available at the 30-minute mark before the scheduled event when encoder video is present. Its current Scheduled Events product page says a stream may be started up to six hours after the scheduled time. Because those timing instructions differ, verify the timing shown in your account before relying on a specific start window.

Workflow 2: Connect an event already created in YouTube Studio
If you created the YouTube event in YouTube Studio first, Switchboard’s documented workaround is to add it as a Custom RTMP destination. The older Switchboard guide says direct streaming to YouTube scheduled events was unsupported when that guide was written; this may no longer describe current account capabilities. Check the destination options available to you and use the following Custom RTMP setup if appropriate.
Recommended Free Tools
- Create the scheduled event in YouTube Studio.
- Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio.
- In Switchboard, add a Custom RTMP destination.
- Paste the stream URL and stream key into their corresponding fields, then give the destination a recognizable name.
- Configure your encoder to send its video to the Switchboard workflow, then manually start the event from Switchboard when video is arriving.
For a Custom RTMP destination, Switchboard’s title and description do not populate the destination. Manage the event’s viewer-facing details in YouTube Studio and confirm the correct event and stream key are connected before going live.

Which workflow should you use?
| Workflow | Where the event page is created | Destination setup | Metadata behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switchboard-created Scheduled Event | In Switchboard; Switchboard says it creates a YouTube event page for YouTube Partner Destinations. | Add or connect YouTube as a destination in the event. | Enter event details in Switchboard. |
| YouTube Studio event with Custom RTMP | In YouTube Studio. | Copy the event’s stream URL and key into a Custom RTMP destination in Switchboard. | Switchboard’s title and description do not push to Custom RTMP destinations. |
Use the Switchboard-created path if your account supports the YouTube destination and you want to create the event through its Scheduled Events workflow. Use the Custom RTMP workaround when you already have a YouTube Studio event and that destination setup is available in your account. The older guide’s statement about direct scheduled-event support is time-sensitive, so confirm current controls rather than assuming the limitation still applies.
Edit or remove a scheduled destination carefully
Switchboard says scheduled events can be edited from the Events Page Manager or from a workflow; the listed editable fields include the schedule time, title, and destinations. Before changing a destination after sharing the event, check what the change will do to the public event page. Switchboard warns that removing a YouTube destination after promotion deletes the public YouTube event page, breaks its shared link, and removes Notify Me subscriptions.

Troubleshooting
- The event is scheduled, but no prerecorded video appears. Switchboard does not host or play the file. Start playback in an encoder that supports prerecorded-video streaming and check that it is sending video into the correct Switchboard workflow.
- Start Streaming is unavailable. Check that encoder video is arriving and that the event is within the start window currently shown in your account. The Help Center describes availability from 30 minutes before the event when video is present, while the product page describes starting as late as six hours after; verify your account’s current behavior.
- The YouTube Studio event does not appear as a destination. Use the documented Custom RTMP workaround if available: add a Custom RTMP destination and enter that event’s stream URL and key. Check current account options because the guide’s direct-support statement may be outdated.
- The YouTube page has the wrong title or description. If you connected it through Custom RTMP, Switchboard does not push those fields to the destination. Update the event details in YouTube Studio.
- A shared event link no longer works after editing destinations. Removing a promoted YouTube destination can delete its public event page and associated Notify Me subscriptions. Confirm the effect before removing it; if the page has already been deleted, the original shared link may no longer be usable.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that stays live with prerecorded videos, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera broadcasting. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
