If worship music is audible in the church but missing from the OBS livestream, first check the Audio Mixer meter while the music plays. A flat meter points to a problem before or at OBS input; a moving meter means to check OBS mute, filters and stream-track routing, then verify the stream from a remote device. If OBS carries the sound but YouTube interrupts it, investigate YouTube Studio and the relevant music rights separately.
Why does my OBS stream have no audio?
Church PA sound and livestream sound are separate paths. Hearing music in the sanctuary confirms only that the local sound system is producing audio; it does not confirm that the mixer is sending audio to the computer, that OBS is routing it to the stream, or that viewers can hear it.

Use OBS’s live input-level indicator as the first branch in the diagnosis. Watch it during a representative song passage, including a quiet section. A peak-hold or PPM bar can fall after sound stops; look for the indicator responding to the live signal rather than treating its decay as ongoing audio. OBS’s Audio Mixer guidance and technical audio guidance describe the mixer and meters.

- OBS still shows audio, but viewers see an interruption or warning: check YouTube Studio and copyright notices; changing OBS gain will not resolve a platform interruption.
Why can I hear the worship music in church but not on the livestream?
Trace the signal in order: source playback, mixer routing, the connection to the streaming computer, OBS input, OBS stream output, then the platform. Monitoring only the PA skips most of that chain.

1. Reproduce the silence during a song
- Play a representative section of music, including a quiet passage and a transition where the problem usually occurs.
- Watch the OBS Audio Mixer indicator for the relevant source while the passage plays.
- Note whether the meter stays flat, responds only intermittently, or continues moving while the remote stream is silent. That observation determines which part of the chain to check next.
2. If the OBS meter is flat, trace the signal upstream
- Confirm source playback. Make sure the music is actually playing at the intended source and is not paused, stopped or routed to a different output.
- Check OBS’s selected device. Confirm the audio source in OBS is the mixer output or audio device the church intends to capture. Device names and controls vary by operating system, mixer and OBS version.
- Inspect the mixer route. Check the channel, bus or USB send feeding the streaming connection, then verify the master routing. A channel audible on the sanctuary mix may not be assigned to the stream send.
- Monitor the device itself. If available, use the mixer’s headphone or monitor output to confirm the intended stream feed has signal; then check whether that signal reaches the OBS input.
- Temporarily bypass OBS source filters for diagnosis. OBS’s input meter is measured before the fader but after filters, so a filter can affect the reading. Disable filters one at a time and watch the meter again.
If the church mixer already provides a suitable USB audio connection, identify and configure that route before buying an interface or cable. An additional audio interface is relevant only if the existing console and computer do not have a suitable connection; compatibility depends on the mixer’s output, input type and count, and the computer’s operating system and driver support.
Why does the music cut out when it gets quiet?
A noise gate can make quiet music disappear. Gates are commonly set up to reduce background sound when a speaker is not talking. If the threshold is too high for the music level, the gate can close during soft notes, quieter passages or transitions.

- In OBS, inspect the affected source’s filters and identify any noise gate or noise suppression.
- During rehearsal, bypass the gate on that source and repeat the same quiet passage.
- If the music returns, tune the gate for the actual music signal rather than copying a speech-oriented setting. Change one setting at a time and repeat the passage.
- Listen to a recording or remote stream after each change; a moving meter alone does not confirm that the result sounds right to viewers.
Noise suppression intended to make speech clearer can also be unsuitable for full-band music. Test it separately from the gate so the cause remains identifiable. OBS explains noise gate behavior and its close/open thresholds.

What should I check inside OBS if the meter moves?
A moving meter establishes that OBS is receiving a signal at that point in the chain, but it does not guarantee that the source is included in the stream mix.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
- Mute: verify the relevant source or mixer channel is not muted in OBS.
- Stream audio track: check that the source is assigned to the audio track OBS uses for streaming. A source can show activity in the mixer but be omitted from the selected output track.
- Filters: review gate, suppression and other source filters, especially if the silence affects quiet passages rather than the entire song.
- Duplicate capture: if the same device is added as an Audio Input/Output Capture source and is also active in OBS global audio settings, review the routing. Capturing a device both ways can cause echo; OBS documents audio-source setup.
Make one change at a time and repeat the same passage. That makes it easier to distinguish a routing fix from a filter change that merely alters the sound.
How do I verify that viewers can hear the stream?
- Monitor near the source or mixer and inside OBS. These checks show whether the signal exists at two points, but neither replaces listening to the actual stream.
- Record a normal rehearsal in OBS and listen back. OBS recommends recording a normal session for playback as part of checking audio.
- Where available, run a private or unlisted stream test and listen from a different device or location. Ask someone outside the control room to confirm what they hear.
- Use headphones or another private output for monitoring. Do not send delayed stream audio back into the sanctuary PA, where it can create an audible duplicate or echo.
Monitoring headphones are useful for a private check, but the cited guidance does not endorse a particular brand or model. For long services, consider fit and comfort, closed-back isolation in a noisy control room, connection compatibility and durability.

Can YouTube mute worship music during a live stream?
Possibly, but do not assume YouTube caused silence just because the content is worship music. First distinguish a platform interruption from a failed OBS signal path: if OBS continues to show audio but the live dashboard reports a warning or viewers see an interruption, check YouTube Studio’s live dashboard and copyright notice.

YouTube also says licensed content can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Check the terms of the relevant license and ask the licensor or rights owner about the channel’s status where needed. A general church music license does not, by itself, establish that a particular platform event is cleared. Do not try to fix a platform copyright interruption by increasing OBS gain.
What should the church change or buy?
For most cases, trace and configure the installed signal path before adding gear. A new interface or cable will not fix a muted OBS source, a source assigned to the wrong stream track, a gate closing on quiet music, or a YouTube rights interruption.
- Consider headphones if the operator needs private monitoring during rehearsal or a service. Check comfort, closed-back isolation, wired compatibility and durability.
- Consider an audio interface only if the current mixer and computer lack a suitable audio connection. Match input type and count, mixer compatibility, and operating-system and driver support before choosing one.
Or let it run in the cloud
For churches that want a YouTube channel to stay live with uploaded recordings rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not diagnose or repair an OBS audio route, and it streams to YouTube only.
