How to Save Webpage Screenshots to Dropbox Using Make

Use a Make trigger, screenshot module, and Dropbox Upload a File action to capture a webpage and save the resulting image automatically.

To save webpage screenshots to Dropbox automatically, build a Make scenario with three modules: a trigger or schedule, a screenshot-capture action, and Dropbox’s Upload a File action. Map the screenshot module’s file output into Dropbox’s file field, then choose the destination folder and filename. You do not need to create a shared link unless you also want to share or display the image.

How the Make scenario works

Make scenarios are workflows assembled from modules, and mapping passes data from one module to another. In this case, the screenshot module captures a URL and returns image data or a file; Dropbox’s upload module stores that output. Make describes a scenario as “a workflow or a project of your own creation, and it is made up of a series of modules that automate apps and services.” Make scenario basics.

  1. Choose a trigger. Start the scenario with an event that supplies a page URL, or use a schedule if you want captures to run at set times. The exact trigger depends on where the URL comes from.
  2. Capture the page. Add a screenshot-provider module and configure its URL and capture options.
  3. Upload the result. Add Dropbox’s Upload a File action, select the folder, and map the screenshot output into its file input. Set a filename if the module asks for one.

Module labels and fields can change. Make’s official integration documentation confirms the actions below, but does not establish that every provider returns data in the same format. When configuring the mapping, use the screenshot module’s actual file or image output—not a URL field unless the Dropbox module explicitly accepts a URL as file input.

Set up Dropbox in Make

You need a Dropbox account. Add a Dropbox module to the scenario, create a connection, and authenticate if prompted. Choose Upload a File, then set the destination folder and map the capture output to the file field. Make documents the Dropbox connection flow and the upload action in its Dropbox integration documentation.

Choose a screenshot module

Make documents multiple providers and capture actions. Pick based on what the scenario must capture and what output it can pass to Dropbox; the cited integration pages do not provide a reliable basis for comparing prices, capture quality, or plan limits.

Provider Documented action Useful when
HTML to Image API Capture Website Screenshot You need a screenshot of a page URL. Integration details.
HTML/CSS to Image Create a Screenshot of a URL You want its documented URL-to-screenshot action. Integration details.
GetScreenshot Screenshot a webpage or a selected page element You need either a whole-page capture or a particular element. Integration details.
SCRNIFY Full-page or custom-sized website screenshots You need full-page capture or a chosen size. Integration details.
ScreenshotOne Website and scrolling screenshots You need a website capture or a scrolling capture. Integration details.

Before building a large workflow, check the chosen module’s connection and authentication requirements, available dimensions or page-capture modes, and the format of its output. Those details determine whether the result can be mapped directly to Dropbox’s file input or needs an intermediate step.

Map the screenshot into Dropbox

  1. In the screenshot module, enter the page URL supplied by the trigger or schedule workflow.
  2. Choose the capture mode and dimensions offered by that provider. For long pages, select its full-page or scrolling option if available; for a specific region, use an element capture action if available.
  3. Run the scenario once with a test URL so Make can expose the module’s output fields.
  4. In Dropbox’s Upload a File module, select the target folder and map the screenshot’s returned file or image data into the file field.
  5. Provide a filename, including a suitable extension, if the module requires it. If the URL varies, use a stable naming pattern that avoids accidental overwrites.
  6. Run another test and confirm the file appears in the intended Dropbox folder and opens as the expected image.

Storage is not the same as a shareable link

Uploading the image stores it in Dropbox; it does not require creating a shared link. If you add Dropbox’s Create a shared link action, Make’s documentation says it returns a Dropbox page link rather than a direct image URL. For a link intended to download, the documentation describes changing the ending from ?dl=0 to ?dl=1. To force rendering, it describes appending &raw=1; it also documents a URL transformation for direct/raw image links. These adjustments are for sharing or rendering use cases, not for the upload itself. See the Dropbox integration documentation for the relevant link behavior.

Common problems and fixes

  • The Dropbox upload gets no file. Check that the mapped value is the screenshot module’s file or image data, not merely its page URL or a text field. Re-run the screenshot module so its output fields are available for mapping.
  • The capture module cannot connect. Reopen its connection settings and complete the authentication or service-account setup required by that provider. Requirements vary by integration.
  • The screenshot is incomplete or not the intended size. Check whether the provider offers full-page/scrolling capture, custom dimensions, or element capture, and select the appropriate action or option.
  • The upload succeeds but the link does not show the image directly. A Dropbox shared link ordinarily opens a Dropbox page. Use the documented download or raw-rendering URL adjustment only when that behavior suits your use case.
  • The file has an unexpected name or extension. Set the filename explicitly in Dropbox’s upload module and make sure its extension matches the returned image format.

Or skip the browser setup

If you prefer a direct screenshot API call instead of wiring a browser capture into Make, ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one GET request and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its documented cleanup can accept cookie/consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. It also provides an MCP server with screenshot, page-info, and PDF tools for AI agents. You can call its API from your own automation, then use that response in your Dropbox workflow.

For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of a URL locally; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response handling:
