Mount Google Drive in your Colab notebook, then pass a full path inside /content/drive/MyDrive/ to Selenium’s driver.save_screenshot(). The method saves the current browser window as a PNG and returns a Boolean you can check for an I/O failure. Google’s documented workflow is the same for readers in India; the sources do not establish a separate India-specific procedure.
Save a Selenium screenshot directly to Google Drive
Run the following cells in order. This shows the Drive mount and file-writing steps; it does not prescribe a browser installation, which depends on the Selenium and browser environment configured in your Colab runtime.

1. Mount Drive and create a folder
from google.colab import drive
from pathlib import Path
drive.mount('/content/drive')
output_dir = Path('/content/drive/MyDrive/selenium_screenshots')
output_dir.mkdir(parents=True, exist_ok=True)
Colab documents mounting Drive in the runtime VM to access files, including writing to them. The mounted filesystem is available under /content/drive. See Colab’s data I/O notebook.

from pathlib import Path
screenshot_path = Path('/content/drive/MyDrive/selenium_screenshots/page.png')
saved = driver.save_screenshot(str(screenshot_path))
if not saved:
raise IOError(f'Could not save screenshot to {screenshot_path}')
print(f'Saved screenshot to {screenshot_path}')
Selenium documents save_screenshot(filename) as saving the current window to a PNG file. It returns False if an I/O error occurs and its API recommends supplying a full path. Keep the .png extension consistent with the method’s output. See Selenium’s Python WebDriver API.
3. Wait for page content before capture
A screenshot captures what is in the browser window when the method runs. If the site renders content asynchronously, wait for the relevant content before calling save_screenshot(). The appropriate wait depends on the target page; the code above does not verify that a particular website has finished rendering.

What the Drive path means in Colab
/content/drive/MyDrive/selenium_screenshots/page.png is a path in the Colab runtime after Drive has been mounted. It is not a path on your computer. For persistence in Drive, write to that mounted Drive path rather than an unmounted or temporary runtime location.
Mounting gives notebook code access to Drive files. Only mount Drive and run notebook code you trust. Colab also notes that mounted-folder operations depend on the runtime. If access is blocked, check the Google account selected for mounting and any applicable organization restrictions; the reviewed documentation does not establish India-specific account or policy rules.

Choose an alternative if mounting does not fit
| Approach | When it fits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Mounted Drive filesystem | A notebook needs a simple path-based way to write screenshots into Drive. | Notebook code gains access to Drive through the mount, and operations rely on the Colab runtime. |
| PyDrive2 or the Drive REST API | Mounting is unsupported or an API-oriented workflow is more suitable. | These require a Drive API workflow rather than writing to a local-looking mounted path. Colab lists both as Drive access options. |
| Download to your computer | You want a runtime file on your local computer rather than stored in Drive. | This is a download, not a save into your Drive folder. Colab documents files.download(...) for this use. |
Colab’s Drive mounting is unsupported in Colab Enterprise according to its Drive implementation. For that environment, Colab points to PyDrive2; its data I/O notebook also describes PyDrive2 and the native REST API.
Troubleshooting
The mount asks for authorization or fails
- Complete the mount authorization flow in the notebook and confirm you are using the intended Google account.
- If this is Colab Enterprise, use an alternative Drive access method such as PyDrive2 or the Drive REST API; the built-in mount is unsupported there.
- If an organization policy blocks access, ask the account or organization administrator. The documented sources do not establish a special India-specific fix.
save_screenshot() returns False or raises an I/O error
- Confirm Drive mounted successfully and the destination is beneath
/content/drive/MyDrive/. - Create the destination directory before saving;
mkdir(parents=True, exist_ok=True)handles missing folders. - Use a full filename ending in
.png, and check the Boolean result rather than assuming the write succeeded. - Drive I/O can be slow or quota-limited. If writing many screenshots one by one causes trouble, capture to runtime-local storage first and copy files to Drive in fewer operations. Batching is a practical inference from Google’s advice to reduce Drive reads and writes, not a guaranteed quota workaround.
The file is missing after the runtime ends
Check that the save path was on the mounted Drive filesystem, not only in temporary runtime storage. Mounted Drive access depends on the runtime, so a runtime-local path should not be treated as persistent storage.

The screenshot does not show the expected page content
Verify that navigation completed and that the content you need had time to render before capturing. This method saves the browser’s current window; it does not by itself wait for a particular selector or guarantee that a page loaded successfully.

If you need a screenshot without setting up Selenium and a browser in Colab, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL in one API request and returns an image or PDF. Its cleanup step can accept the cookie or consent banner and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers indicate the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. Plans include 1,000 shots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See ScreenshotNeo and the API documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this workflow require a different Colab procedure in India?
The official Colab and Selenium documentation reviewed describes the general mount-and-save workflow and does not identify a different procedure for India.
Can I use the same Selenium method to save a JPEG?
Selenium documents save_screenshot() as producing PNG output. Use a .png filename for this method.
