Wait for the page content you actually need to appear, then take the screenshot. Selenium’s navigation wait—and even document.readyState == "complete"—does not guarantee that a JavaScript-driven page has finished rendering. Use an explicit wait for a stable, visible element or expected text immediately before capture.
Wait for the content before taking the screenshot
Here is a Python example using Selenium’s explicit wait. Replace main with a stable locator for the content that should be visible in your screenshot:

A generic main element may become visible before the useful data arrives; if so, wait for expected text or a page-specific loaded-state marker instead. Wait for visible content, not just an element in the DOM
An element can exist in the document while remaining hidden. For a screenshot, visibility is often a better condition than presence alone. If the page’s meaningful state is represented by text, wait for that text; if it has a reliable application-specific marker, wait for the marker to become visible.

Wait again after actions that trigger rendering
If a click, form submission, or other interaction causes the page to update, put the relevant explicit wait after that action and before the screenshot. A wait performed before the update cannot synchronize capture with the new state.

Changing the strategy changes navigation timing, not the definition of “ready” for your application. Selenium notes that scripts can alter a page after its ready state has been reached, so none of these strategies replaces a wait for the actual screenshot content. Why fixed sleeps and mixed waits cause problems
A fixed delay may be too short on a slow run and waste time on a fast one. Selenium treats sleeps as a last-resort synchronization approach; a temporary longer sleep can help diagnose whether timing is involved, but a condition-based wait is more reliable when the desired page state can be identified.

Do not combine implicit and explicit waits. Selenium warns that mixing them can produce unpredictable total wait times. Prefer a consistent explicit wait for the screenshot condition.
If the screenshot is still white
- Check the destination. Confirm the browser is on the intended URL, then check the title or expected page text. A redirect or an empty response can look like a timing problem.
- Validate the wait condition. Make sure the locator identifies content that is actually visible and that the condition reflects the state needed in the image. An element merely present in a hidden container is not enough.
- Inspect the page and browser diagnostics. Check page source and browser or driver logs for navigation errors, JavaScript failures, or an empty state. These are diagnostic checks; the behavior depends on the target site and environment.
- Compare browsers. If possible, reproduce the same steps in another browser. Selenium’s troubleshooting guidance recommends comparing browsers to help identify issues in the underlying browser driver. See Selenium: Troubleshooting Assistance.
Selenium’s own waiting guidance explains the key distinction: “The readyState only concerns itself with loading assets defined in the HTML, but loaded JavaScript assets often result in changes to the site, and elements that need to be interacted with may not yet be on the page when the code is ready to execute the next Selenium command.”
