Short answer: you cannot yet follow a verified save-and-switch preset workflow in Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories. The game has not released, and Gust has announced only three body-shape controls: turn changes on, turn them off, or keep changes enabled while locking Karia at a preferred shape. Snacks alter her shape only when the feature is on and unlocked. A conventional preset list, named save slots, manual stage selector, and button-by-button menu path have not been documented.
What is actually confirmed
Atelier Karia is scheduled to launch on February 25, 2027, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Until the release version or an official manual shows otherwise, “body-shape presets” is a useful description of the player’s ability to control Karia’s appearance, not proof that the game contains a conventional preset menu.

Gust has described a system with three outcomes:
- On and unlocked: Karia’s body shape changes in response to how much she eats during snacks.
- Off: her body shape does not change, regardless of how much she eats.
- On and locked: you can keep Karia at a preferred body shape while leaving the feature enabled; further eating will not move her away from that locked shape.
Those statements establish appearance controls, but not the ability to store several shapes and recall them instantly. No official menu labels, controller inputs, keyboard shortcuts, save-slot design, or cross-save behavior for body-shape settings has been published.
Why “save and switch presets” is not a verified feature yet
A preset system normally lets you choose a stage, assign it a name or slot, save it, and return to it later. The announcement does not describe any of those operations. It describes a dynamic appearance mechanic and a lock function instead.

That distinction matters because a lock may work very differently from a saved preset. A lock could preserve the stage Karia currently occupies, but it might not create a separate profile that can be selected from a list. Likewise, turning the feature off may freeze the current appearance without recording a second appearance to which you can switch later.
Until Gust publishes a manual or the finished game exposes additional controls, treat the following as unconfirmed:
- Saving two or more body-shape stages in separate slots.
- Giving a body shape a name or assigning it to a shortcut.
- Switching between saved shapes without changing snack consumption.
- Choosing any of the reported stages directly from a slider, wheel, or numbered menu.
- Carrying a locked shape into a new save, New Game Plus mode, or another platform through cloud or cross-save features.
A guide that presents those actions as existing launch commands would be guessing. The safest current answer to “How do I save and switch presets?” is: there is no verified procedure to follow before release.

On and unlocked: snack-responsive appearance
With body-shape changes turned on and no lock applied, snacks become the trigger for appearance changes. Gust’s wording ties the result to “how much she eats during snacks,” so the mechanic is not described as a real-time change from every action or as a combat status effect. The published explanation does not specify how many snacks are required to move between stages, whether different recipes have different values, or whether the change is reversible through later eating patterns.
This is the mode to use if you want Karia’s appearance to reflect her snack choices during normal play. It is also the mode in which an accidental or intentional snack can alter her current stage, because no lock is protecting it.
Off: freeze appearance against snack changes
When the feature is turned off, Karia’s body shape will not change no matter how much she eats. This is stronger than simply avoiding snacks: the announcement says snack quantity cannot alter her shape while the setting is off.

The announcement does not say whether turning the feature off immediately restores a default appearance, preserves the stage currently shown, or affects a shape selected through another system. Do not assume that “off” means “return to default.” The only confirmed behavior is that snack-driven body-shape changes stop.

On and locked: preserve a preferred stage
A lock is the announced way to keep one preferred body shape while retaining the feature’s on state. Once a shape is locked, further eating will not change it. This gives you a middle option between a fully dynamic appearance and a feature that is disabled.
The timing of the lock is important. Gust says players can lock Karia “at a preferred body shape,” which implies that you first reach or otherwise display the shape you want and then apply the lock. The game has not revealed whether the lock command appears in a body-settings menu, a pause menu, a snack screen, or another interface.
Reported body-shape stages
Coverage of the announcement reports five stages, ranging from a slim figure through the default appearance to a fuller figure. The available information does not provide official names for all five stages, numerical thresholds, artwork identifiers, or a guaranteed order of snack amounts.

Because the stages have not been documented as selectable presets, do not plan a route around “stage 1,” “stage 3,” or “stage 5” instructions unless the released interface assigns those labels. A screenshot or guide may use informal descriptions that do not match the game’s final terminology.

The following is a practical verification checklist, not a claim that these exact menu paths exist. It is designed to help you identify the real controls without mistaking assumptions for features.

- Open the body or gameplay settings. Look for wording related to body shape, body changes, appearance changes, or snack-driven changes. Record the exact label shown in your platform’s language.
- Find the feature toggle. Confirm whether the interface presents an On/Off switch or equivalent options. The announced behavior requires an enabled state for snack-driven changes and a disabled state that prevents them.
- Check the current shape before eating. If the game displays a preview, screenshot, stage name, or icon, note it. This gives you a reference if you are testing whether a snack caused a transition.
- Use a snack while the feature is on and unlocked. Observe whether the game gives a visual, textual, or audio indication of a change. The announcement confirms the relationship between eating and shape, but not the feedback method.
- Apply the lock at the preferred appearance. If a lock command is available, activate it only after the desired shape is displayed. Verify that the interface indicates a locked state.
- Test the lock with another snack. A successful lock should prevent further snack-driven shape changes. If the appearance changes, check whether the lock was applied to the feature itself or to another setting.
- Test the off state separately. Turn body-shape changes off and observe whether the current appearance remains visible while snacks stop affecting it. Do not infer a reset unless the game explicitly shows one.
- Look for storage controls. Only treat a feature as a true preset system if the game offers a save, slot, name, load, or switch action for more than one body shape. A single lock command is not the same as multiple saved presets.
- Check save behavior. After finding any lock or preset control, save the game, quit, and reload. Confirm whether the appearance setting persists and whether the lock survives loading an earlier save.
If the release version provides a manual stage selector or multiple slots, its labels and inputs should take priority over any pre-release description. If it does not, the controls remain the three announced modes rather than a conventional preset manager.
Can you switch from one shape to another?
There are two different meanings of “switch,” and the available information supports only one conditionally.
Switching by changing the mode
You should be able to change between the announced behavior states once the game exposes their controls: dynamic changes on, changes off, or on with a lock. However, the announcement does not say whether changing from locked to unlocked immediately resumes snack-driven progression, whether turning the feature off removes an existing lock, or whether the current stage is retained through those changes.

For example, unlocking may allow the next snack to move Karia to a new stage, while turning the feature off may simply suppress future changes. Neither outcome is confirmed.
Switching directly between saved stages
No direct stage-to-stage switching method has been announced. There is no verified evidence of a “load preset” command, a favorite-shape carousel, or a hotkey that alternates between two stored appearances. If you need a specific shape before launch, the only documented concept is to reach that shape through the game’s snack-driven system and lock it.
Does body shape affect abilities?
The announcement says synthesized items can affect appearance and abilities, but it does not specify that the body-shape setting itself changes combat statistics, crafting results, movement, or any other ability. A lock is described as protecting appearance from further snack-driven changes; its effect on abilities is not stated.

Do not treat a fuller or slimmer stage as a build choice until official mechanics documentation confirms one. If a synthesized item changes both appearance and abilities, that is a separate item effect unless the game explicitly links the body-shape stage to statistics. A locked appearance could therefore be purely visual, or it could interact with systems that have not yet been explained. The evidence does not resolve that question.

Gust and Koei Tecmo Games reported more than 38,000 survey responses in 2026. In that survey, 78.9% of respondents wanted the body-change feature included.

These figures explain why both dynamic and locked behavior were announced. They are survey preferences, not a specification of menu design. They do not establish that the final game will include several saved presets, nor do they indicate how often a player can change or lock a shape.

If your priority is avoiding unexpected changes, use the least assumption-dependent approach once the game is available:
- Choose the off state if you do not want snacks to alter Karia’s shape at all.
- Choose the on-and-locked state if you want the feature enabled but want one preferred appearance protected from later snacks.
- Use the on-and-unlocked state only when you are comfortable with snack consumption changing the appearance.
Keep a manual save before experimenting with snacks until you know whether the game lets you undo a shape transition, unlock safely, or reload an earlier appearance. This is a general precaution for an unrevealed save system, not a claim that body shape is permanently irreversible.

Leave the feature on and unlocked, then use snacks during normal play. Because no thresholds or recipe values have been published, the game itself will need to teach you how much consumption moves Karia between stages. Track the snack, the resulting appearance, and any on-screen indicator if you want to understand the progression.

If you reach a shape you like, apply the lock rather than continuing to eat and hoping the game will remember the stage as a preset. Locking is the only announced preservation mechanism.
Common mistakes to avoid
Assuming five stages mean five selectable buttons
Five reported stages describe the range of appearances, not a confirmed five-position selector. The stages may be reached through accumulated snack effects rather than chosen from a menu.
Assuming off means default
The off state is confirmed to prevent snack-driven changes. No statement says it resets Karia to the default body shape. Check the current appearance before and after changing the setting.
Assuming lock creates a backup
A lock protects a preferred shape from further eating. It has not been described as a backup slot, exportable preset, or alternate profile.
Assuming appearance controls change abilities
Item effects can involve appearance and abilities, but the body-shape lock’s effect on abilities has not been explained. Wait for explicit statistics or system documentation.
Assuming settings persist everywhere
There is no published confirmation that a lock follows every save file, difficulty, game mode, platform, or cloud transfer. Test persistence in the final version before relying on it for a long playthrough.
Release information and when to recheck the controls
Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories is planned for February 25, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The date and platforms describe the scheduled release, not proof that every edition will expose identical labels or input methods.
Recheck the in-game manual, accessibility settings, control guide, and platform-specific button prompts after launch. A later official guide may clarify whether the lock is saved with the game, whether turning it off preserves the visible stage, and whether a true multi-preset system exists. Until then, the accurate answer remains limited to the three announced controls and their snack-related behavior.
