The most common recovery mistake is expecting the visible time range or indicator settings to behave like drawings: they are handled differently.
What a TradingView chart layout saves
TradingView describes a chart layout as a saved workspace on Supercharts. It preserves the working state you want to reopen rather than merely bookmarking a symbol. A saved layout can include:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- the symbol or symbols shown;
- the chart interval;
- the chart type;
- indicators applied to the chart;
- drawing objects;
- colors, visual choices, and chart settings; and
- the arrangement of charts in a multi-chart workspace.
There is one important boundary: the visible time range is not part of the chart-layout object in TradingView’s Advanced Charts documentation. A layout can reopen the correct symbol and interval while showing a different portion of historical data. Treat the time range as a viewing position that may need to be adjusted after loading.

Create and save a new layout
Initial setup
- Open TradingView and go to the chart workspace.
- Select Manage layouts.
- Choose Create new layout.
- Enter a name that identifies the purpose of the workspace, such as a market and timeframe combination.
- Configure the symbol, interval, chart type, indicators, drawings, colors, and other settings you want to reopen later.
- Save the layout.
The name is operationally important. If you maintain several workspaces, use names that distinguish the instrument, timeframe, and purpose instead of relying on the date alone. A descriptive name makes the correct saved workspace easier to identify when you are troubleshooting a missing drawing or indicator.
Save changes manually
After editing an existing layout, open Manage layouts and select Save changes. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S on Windows or Cmd+S on macOS. Manual saving gives you a deliberate checkpoint: you can make several changes, inspect them, and then commit the workspace rather than saving every adjustment immediately.
Turn on Autosave
Open the Manage layouts menu and enable Autosave. With Autosave on, TradingView can save layout edits without a separate save command. This is the setting that matters most when you expect drawing objects to appear in real time in another browser tab, window, or device. Autosave is convenient, but it also means an accidental edit can be written to the saved workspace before you have reviewed it.

Restore a saved workspace
- Open Manage layouts.
- Find the intended saved layout by name.
- Select it to load the workspace.
- Confirm that the expected symbol, interval, chart type, indicators, and chart arrangement are present.
- Adjust the visible time range if the loaded chart is focused on a different historical section; that range is not stored in the Advanced Charts layout object.
TradingView’s charting documentation also refers to built-in Save layout and Load layout controls. The labels can vary with the chart interface, but the principle is the same: load the saved workspace rather than trying to reconstruct it by changing the symbol manually.
What is stored, and what is handled separately?
| Item | Stored in the chart layout? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Symbol | Yes | Load the saved layout and verify the symbol. |
| Interval | Yes | Check the interval after loading, especially in a multi-chart workspace. |
| Chart type | Yes | It is part of the saved chart workspace. |
| Indicators | Present in the workspace, but not synchronized between layouts by default | Use an indicator template when you need the same set elsewhere. |
| Drawings | Yes, subject to symbol and synchronization settings | Return to the same symbol and configure layout or global drawing sync as needed. |
| Colors and chart settings | Yes | Save the layout after changing them. |
| Visible time range | No, according to Advanced Charts documentation | Pan or zoom to the desired period after loading. |
| Number and arrangement of charts | Yes, within the limits of your subscription | Use Layout setup for per-chart synchronization. |
How drawing objects behave
Drawings belong to a symbol
TradingView associates a drawing with the symbol on which it was created. For example, a trend line drawn on TSLA disappears from view when you switch to NVDA. It has not necessarily been deleted; when you return to TSLA, the drawing comes back. This symbol-specific behavior is why checking the active symbol is the first step when a line, zone, or annotation seems to be missing.

Sync drawings in the current layout
Sync drawings in layout shares drawing objects for the same symbol across charts in the current layout. This is useful when one workspace contains several timeframes or chart panels and you want a drawing created in one panel to be available in the other panels of that workspace.
Sync drawings globally
Sync drawings globally shares drawings for the same symbol across layouts, including layouts you create later. Choose this when a symbol’s analysis should follow you between separate workspaces. It is broader than layout-only synchronization and can change what appears in other saved layouts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTradingView warns that changing drawing-synchronization settings can remove drawings from other layouts. Decide whether the drawing belongs only to one workspace or should be global before switching the setting, and save after making the choice.
Indicators and templates are a separate workflow
Indicators are not synchronized between layouts and charts by default. A layout can preserve the indicators configured in that workspace, but copying the same indicator setup to another layout requires a different mechanism.
Apply an indicator to every chart in a layout
When working in a multi-chart layout, TradingView provides an option to apply an indicator to every chart in that layout. This is a layout-level convenience; it does not make the indicator automatically follow you into every other layout.

Save and apply an indicator template
Save a set of indicators as an indicator template when you want to reuse that combination. Apply the template to the target chart or layout when you need the same studies elsewhere. TradingView’s documentation distinguishes indicator templates from drawing objects: drawings are not saved in an indicator template.
Because drawing objects are excluded, applying an indicator template can remove drawing objects from indicator panels. Save or synchronize important drawings separately before applying a template, particularly when a panel contains annotations that you cannot easily recreate.
Multi-chart layouts and synchronization choices
A layout can contain one to 16 charts, with the available maximum determined by subscription level. More charts do not automatically mean that every field is identical. Use Layout setup to choose which basic fields should stay aligned, such as:
- symbol;
- interval;
- crosshair; and
- other basic chart fields exposed by the layout controls.
Keep synchronization narrow when each panel serves a different purpose. For example, synchronizing the symbol across panels can be helpful when comparing intervals, while leaving symbols independent is better when the panels intentionally track different markets. Drawing synchronization is controlled separately through the layout-only and global options described above.
Using the same layout on multiple tabs and devices
TradingView states: “Objects are globally synchronized between different windows/tabs/devices in real-time only when the layouts autosave is enabled.” With Autosave disabled, objects synchronize only after you manually save the layout. This distinction explains why a drawing can be visible in one browser tab but absent on a phone or another computer immediately afterward.

Multiple browser tabs
When the same layout is open in more than one tab, TradingView recommends manually saving the layout in every tab after making changes. Otherwise, one tab can hold an older saved state and later overwrite or obscure the change you expected to keep. Autosave reduces this friction, but you should still avoid editing the same workspace concurrently when you need a predictable checkpoint.
Mobile behavior
The mobile app includes a setting that remembers the last chart viewed across devices. That is not the same as saving a specific chart layout. If you need a named workspace with its symbols, indicators, drawings, and settings, open that saved layout explicitly rather than relying on the last-chart preference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Why drawings or indicators are missing
Work through these checks in order; each addresses a different storage or synchronization layer.
- Verify the saved layout. Open Manage layouts and confirm that the intended layout name is selected. You may simply be viewing a different workspace.
- Verify the symbol. Drawings are symbol-specific. Return to the symbol on which the object was created.
- Check drawing synchronization. Use Sync drawings in layout for charts in the current workspace or Sync drawings globally for the same symbol across layouts. Change this deliberately because the setting can affect drawings in other layouts.
- Check whether the latest edit was saved. If Autosave is off, use Save changes or the appropriate keyboard shortcut. For the same layout in several tabs, save from each tab after editing.
- Check the indicator workflow. Indicators are not automatically synchronized between layouts. Apply the saved indicator template or use the option to apply an indicator to every chart in the current layout.
- Check the visible range. A different zoom or historical window is expected because the visible time range is not part of the Advanced Charts layout object.
Manual Save versus Autosave
| Workflow | Strength | Trade-off | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual Save | Creates an explicit checkpoint and reduces accidental overwrites. | Changes do not propagate until you save; every relevant tab may need a save. | Careful analysis where you want to review edits before committing them. |
| Autosave | Convenient ongoing saving and real-time object synchronization between windows, tabs, and devices. | An unintended edit can be saved immediately. | Workspaces that must stay current across devices. |
| Sync drawings in layout | Keeps same-symbol drawings available across charts in one layout. | Does not share the drawing with other layouts. | Multi-timeframe analysis inside one workspace. |
| Sync drawings globally | Makes same-symbol drawings available across layouts, including new layouts. | Changing the setting can remove drawings from other layouts. | A symbol-centric analysis set used in many workspaces. |
Reliable workflows for common setups
One chart and one device
Create and name the layout, configure it, and use manual saving after intentional changes. This keeps the process simple while preserving a clear checkpoint. If you frequently lose work between sessions, enable Autosave instead.
Recommended Free Tools
Several timeframes for one symbol
Use a multi-chart layout, configure Layout setup to synchronize the symbol if appropriate, and enable Sync drawings in layout. This keeps same-symbol annotations available across the panels without making them global to every workspace.
Best Value
One symbol across many workspaces
Use Sync drawings globally when the same drawing set should follow the symbol through different layouts. Review the effect on existing workspaces before enabling it, because TradingView warns that changing synchronization can remove drawings elsewhere.
Desktop plus mobile or another computer
Open the same named layout on each device, enable Autosave for real-time object synchronization, and verify the symbol after loading. Do not confuse the mobile “remember last chart” setting with saving a particular layout.
Reusable indicator stack
Save the indicators as an indicator template and apply that template where needed. Keep drawings separate: they are not included in the template, and applying a template can remove drawing objects from indicator panels.
Operational checklist before you close the chart
- The intended layout name is shown under Manage layouts.
- The symbol and interval are correct.
- Any required multi-chart synchronization choices are set in Layout setup.
- Drawings are configured for layout-only or global synchronization intentionally.
- Indicators are saved in the layout or in a separate indicator template, as appropriate.
- Autosave is enabled, or you have used Save changes in every tab where you edited the workspace.
- You understand that the visible time range may need to be restored manually.
TradingView’s Advanced Charts documentation summarizes the broader model: the library can save and load chart layouts, chart templates, drawing templates, and indicator templates so they can be restored later. In practice, reliable recovery comes from treating those as related but distinct objects: save the layout for the workspace, synchronize drawings with the scope you actually need, and use indicator templates when the study set must be reused.
