For a reliable manual save in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, use a Save Station. The game also autosaves at selected progression points, but those saves are supplementary. To continue from a file, open the game menu, choose Play, then select the save you want.

Use a Save Station
Save Stations are located around the map. Use one to save your progress; doing so also restores Samus’s health and ammunition. Make a station save when practical rather than relying on an autosave you may not know has occurred. Game8’s guide, published December 5, 2025, also notes autosaves at certain progression points, including when returning to Sol Valley from Flare Pool.

Copy a save into another slot
- Open the game menu and select Play to view the save files.
- Select the file you want to preserve.
- Press X to copy it, then place the duplicate in another slot.
The duplicate preserves the state represented by the file you copied, so you can keep an earlier point available while continuing from another save. These menu steps are documented in the Game8 guide.
How to load a save
From the game menu, select Play to see your save files, then choose the file you want to continue. The available guide does not specify the full confirmation sequence after selecting a file, so follow the prompt shown in your game.

Spoiler-sensitive: preserve an exploration save before the ending
If you want to retain an earlier state for exploration, copy your save before proceeding past the prompt “Order Troopers to Move Forward?” Game8 recommends making a copy before this point because the endgame can affect backtracking.
A Nintendo Life clarification published December 4, 2025 reports that after the final boss you can choose whether to save a Mission Complete file. Declining that save leaves the earlier manual save intact, although an autosave may put you in the final area. To keep your earlier exploration state, use a separate copy before the endgame and decline the Mission Complete save afterward.

Does the update delete save data?
Nintendo Support’s update history identifies version 1.1.0 as released on December 3, 2025, and says save data remains available after downloading that update. This confirms preservation for that update; it does not describe cloud backup or a save-transfer procedure. Nintendo lists the game for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model. The cited sources do not establish different save steps across those systems.
