SingleFile can name a saved page from its webpage title: open the extension’s options, go to File name > template, and use {page-title}.html. But “original filename” can mean two different things. This documented setting uses the page title; it does not establish that SingleFile can copy the final filename segment from the page’s URL.
Choose which “original filename” you mean
A webpage title, such as “Getting Started,” and a URL’s last path segment, such as guide.html, are separate values and may not match. SingleFile’s maintainer documents the {page-title} template token. The official instructions and cited example do not confirm a token for preserving a literal URL filename. If that exact URL name is essential, check the help bundled with your installed SingleFile version before relying on it.

Set a title-based filename in SingleFile
- Click or right-click the SingleFile toolbar button and open its options. The project README describes choosing Manage extension in Firefox and Options in Chrome; labels may vary by browser.
- In the options page, find File name > template.
- Enter
{page-title}.htmlto name the saved file after the page title. For distinct dated copies, the maintainer’s example is{page-title} ({date-locale}).html. - Save a webpage and check the resulting filename. If the result differs from what you expect, consult the extension help for your installed version.
The project README says SingleFile saves to the browser’s configured downloads folder by default. The filename template and output format are separate settings: SingleFile supports several formats, so changing formats does not itself resolve which name the template uses. Check the filename and download behavior
- The name uses a title, not the URL: that is consistent with
{page-title}; use the installed help to determine whether your version offers a URL-filename token. - The browser’s save flow looks different: check its download settings and the extension’s version-specific help. Browser download prompts can affect the flow, but the available project instructions do not establish one universal fix for every browser.
- The file is saved somewhere unexpected: check the browser’s configured downloads folder, which is SingleFile’s documented default save location.

Does {page-title} copy the filename at the end of a URL?
No. It is the documented page-title token. The official example does not confirm a token for copying a URL’s literal filename.
